Liam Neeson thinks he's too old for action movies
The Taken star has moved away from his typical genre in the new comedy flick The Naked Gun and admits that he doesn't want to "insult" viewers by taking on parts that are unsuitable for his age.
In an interview with Variety, Neeson said: "The first Taken was 18 years ago, I was 54. Feels like a lifetime ago. I still get offered the occasional one.
"But I'm 73, for f**k's sake. I don't want to insult audiences if they're watching whole fight scenes and it's not me. I just wouldn't do it.
"Up until recently, I liked doing my own fight stuff. But I don't want to be doing that stuff with a Zimmer frame or walking stick. Sure, there might be another out there, but nothing definite on the horizon."
Neeson stars in The Naked Gun as Frank Drebin Jr. - the son of the late Leslie Nielsen's hapless detective in the original movies - and explained that he did not rewatch the previous flicks after taking the lead role in Akiva Schaffer's legacy sequel.
He said: "No, I just trusted the script. And knew it would get better the more they worked on it. Akiva was the co-writer but there was always another writer on set - a friend of Akiva's obviously - and they would supply alternate endings to scenes. Try this, try that."
Neeson and his co-star Pamela Anderson have been at the centre of romance rumours during the promotion of the film and he believes that the pair's "chemistry" was useful for some of the sexual innuendo in the movie.
The actor said: "Yeah, there's a couple of outlandish scenes. From day one we just seemed to have a nice chemistry together and I trusted that and didn't want to work on it.
"Like, there's something happening here, it's nice, so just leave it alone and it'll grow, you know?"
Neeson added: "We had dinner a couple of times. She's a wonderful baker. She made me sourdough bread. And her assistant made some beautiful muffins. Gluten-free muffins. Terrific. She's very into her gardening back home.
"But yeah, we had a couple of meals together."
Neeson insists it was "serious business" for the cast during the making of the movie despite the hilarity involved in the scenes.
Asked if the actors burst into laughter during takes, he explained: "No, that didn't happen. When we rehearsed stuff, we'd get rid of our personal giggles. And some of the scenes require certain choreography - sight gags and stuff like that.
"I don't want to say it was always serious, far from it. But it was serious business, of course, shooting any movie and keeping a sense of lightness. You know, that's very important."

Sister of Liam Neeson's late wife Natasha Richardson reacts to his ‘budding romance' with Pamela Anderson
Liam Neeson's new love appears to have his former sister-in-law's approval. Pamela Anderson took to Instagram on Friday, August 1, to share a carousel of sweet photos of herself posing with Neeson to promote the release of their new movie together. 'The Naked Gun is finally in theatres!' Anderson, 58, wrote. 'Bring your friends, family, lovers… whoever… just go and have a laugh… It's good for you! I'll see you there.' Natasha Richardson's sister, Joely Richardson, then shared seven red heart emojis in the comments section of Anderson's post. Joely's apparent support for Neeson's rumored romance with Anderson excited many of the former 'Baywatch' star's fans, and several took to the comments section to share their reactions. 'Classy and loving as always,' one person wrote underneath Joely's comment. 'Very sweet of you,' added another, while a third commented, 'Okay, this is everything.' Neeson, 73, married Joely's sister, Natasha Richardson, in 1994 after the pair met and worked together on the Broadway revival of 'Anna Christie' one year earlier. Before striking up a relationship with Richardson, the 'Taken' star had dated Helen Mirren and Barbra Streisand. Neeson and Richardson went on to welcome two sons together: Micheál, now 30, and Daniel, now 28. But tragedy struck in March 2009 when Richardson passed away from a traumatic brain injury she suffered during a skiing accident in Quebec. The beloved 'Parent Trap' actress was 45. Neeson later opened up about his wife's passing and the grief he endured during an interview with '60 Minutes' in 2014. 'Grief hits you. It's like a wave,' he told host Anderson Cooper at the time. 'You just get this profound feeling of instability. You feel like a three-legged table. Just suddenly, the Earth isn't stable anymore.' 'And then it passes and becomes more infrequent, but I still get it sometimes,' the 'Star Wars' actor added. Then, in October 2024, Neeson claimed that he was done dating. 'No, in a word,' he told People last year. 'I'm past all that.' But that appeared to change when the Oscar-nominated actor and Anderson met and began working together on Seth MacFarlane's 'The Naked Gun' reboot. 'With Pamela, first off, I'm madly in love with her,' Neeson, also in October 2024, said. 'She's just terrific to work with.' 'I think I have a friend forever in Liam, and we definitely have a connection that is very sincere, very loving, and he's a good guy,' Anderson told Entertainment Weekly last month. The pair both brought their sons to the NYC premiere of 'The Naked Gun,' and then pretended to make out on live TV during a July 29 appearance on 'Today.' Insiders have since claimed that Neeson and Anderson are dating and 'enjoying each other's company.' 'It's a budding romance in the early stages,' a source told People in July. 'It's sincere, and it's clear they're smitten with each other.' 'It's very sincere how they feel,' another insider told Page Six. 'That is the truth.' 'They're not going to show up on the red carpet and be adorable just to be fake, that's not either of them,' they added. 'This is happening in real time, here and now, so I don't know what things look like moving forward.' The Post has reached out to Neeson and Anderson's reps for comment. Dave Franco and Alison Brie 'handed out weed pens at party'
Dave Franco and Alison Brie handed out "weed pens" at their wedding party. The 40-year-old actor and Alison, 42, tied the knot in 2017, and Dave has recalled proposing to the brunette beauty during a trip to Big Sur in California. He told Variety: "We were going to Big Sur, one of our favourite places on Earth. I decided I was going to do it there. And I didn't have the ring." Alison then said: "He knew that I wanted our friend Irene Neuwirth to design my ring." Dave put a lot of time and thought into his proposal. The actor shared: "The day before the trip, I figured I should have a placeholder ring so I could at least put something on her finger. I went to an antiques store down the street from us and got what I thought was a cool, old ring. "We first met at Mardi Gras in New Orleans years ago, and Alison had this silver mask on her head the entire weekend. I had written my phone number on the mask, and at the end of the trip, I took it and hid it. She didn't know I'd kept the mask all these years." Alison continued: "He calls me out onto the patio. I turn around and Dave's on one knee in a Zorro mask, holding a weird box with an old rock in it. I had no idea what was going on." The Hollywood duo wanted to have a small, lowkey wedding ceremony, but they still decided to throw a party with their friends. Dave shared: "We wanted people to let loose and go crazy. Much more than they did. We were handing out weed pens, which just led to everyone bringing home multiple to-go pizzas." Dave and Alison always had a clear idea of what they wanted their wedding day to look like. And the actor admits that it was one of the best days of their lives. He said: "Neither of us were ever big into weddings. Like, this was not a super important thing to us. At the end of the day, we did it exactly how we wanted. In a cheesy way, that ended up being one of the best days of our lives."

Ralph Ineson 'felt like a Formula One car' in The Fantastic Four: First Steps costume
Ralph Ineson "felt like a Formula One car" during the making of The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The 55-year-old star plays villain Galactus in the new Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) blockbuster and explained the lengths that the crew had to go to keep him cool in his heavy costume. Ralph told Collider: "For the actor, it's like working in a huge rubber suit in a sauna, but you're not allowed to sweat. "So, I have a whole pit crew around me – I'm like a Formula One car – with people taking off bits of my costume in between takes to bring my body temperature down, and then bring it back on for the next take. "People are shoving air conditioning units up the back of my armour to keep my body temperature down. So, it's a really strange sight. There are eight people buzzing around me like a Formula One pit crew." Ralph explained that the "strangest" part about starring in the film is seeing his character recreated in toy form for merchandise. The Harry Potter star said: "It's really crazy. The maddest one for this, for me, is the popcorn bucket of Galactus' head, which is about this big. It's enormous! That's kind of surreal. "I saw a picture of a toy that's being released, which is kind of to scale to the normal toys, so the Galactus one is about two and a half feet tall. So, yeah, it's very strange to see yourself in toy form." Ineson explained that there was some dialogue from Galactus that he was disappointed to see absent from the flick's final cut, but he respects director Matt Shakman's editorial decisions. He said: "From my point of view, there's no kind of sections, but there were various versions, dialogue-wise, of certain speeches, and there were a couple of phrases that I particularly liked that I would have liked to have stayed in that were replaced by other ones. "But that's not my job. I don't do those things. That's Matt and editors." The Fantastic Four: First Steps also stars Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/ Invisible Woman and she has confessed to becoming a "nerd" about her alter ego. She told Variety: "I'm such a Sue nerd. "There was something so allegorical about her. She was called Invisible Girl. Then Psycho-Man comes and disrupts everything, and she has a meeting with her own dark side in Malice. She comes back, and she renames herself Invisible Woman. So she transforms from a girl to a woman. "There's something about meeting the hardest parts of yourself in Malice that felt extremely poignant to me. I'm really hopeful I might be allowed to be Malice at some point for her." Vanessa previously described how she loves to take on "challenging" roles. The Crown actress told TheTalks: "I really like pushing past my limits in that way — I love it. "When I read something and go, 'Uh, I don't know how I am going to do this,' then I know I should do it. I don't think it feels as challenging when you read a script and go, 'I know exactly how I am going to do this.'"
