Timothée Chalamet chases ping pong glory in first look at A24's ‘Marty Supreme'

A24 has unveiled the first trailer for Marty Supreme, offering a glimpse at one of the year's most unusual cinematic projects. The film stars Timothée Chalamet as Marty Mauser, a young man in 1950s America whose unlikely dream of ping pong stardom is met with scepticism at every turn. Directed by Josh Safdie, best known for Uncut Gems, the story follows Mauser's relentless pursuit of greatness despite ridicule and personal sacrifice.
While not officially confirmed, the narrative is believed to draw loose inspiration from the career of real-life professional ping pong player Marty Reisman. In the trailer, Chalamet's character exudes both charm and determination, phoning a movie star played by Gwyneth Paltrow to declare he is 'something of a performer' too. The mood shifts as Mauser confides in his love interest, portrayed by Odessa A'zion, telling her that having a purpose is not a blessing but an obligation that comes with sacrifice.
The footage also features Kevin O'Leary of Shark Tank, who listens as Mauser insists that ping pong can fill stadiums overseas and could one day put him on the cover of a Wheaties box. The eclectic cast includes Tyler, The Creator, Penn Jillette, Fran Drescher, Sandra Bernhard, and filmmaker Abel Ferrara.
Safdie co-wrote the script with Ronald Bronstein and produced alongside Eli Bush, Anthony Katagas, Chalamet and A24. The film is set to release in cinemas on Christmas Day, positioning it as a potential end-of-year conversation starter.
Marty Supreme joins a busy slate for A24, which includes Spike Lee's Highest 2 Lowest starring Denzel Washington, the English-language dub of Chinese hit Ne Zha 2, Benny Safdie's The Smashing Machine starring Dwayne Johnson, and Rose Byrne's If I Had Legs I'd Kick You.
With its offbeat premise, star-studded ensemble and period setting, Marty Supreme looks set to serve up an unconventional take on sports ambition and the pursuit of unlikely dreams.

A24 acquires Ian Tuason horror film The Undertone after Fantasia Fest premiere

A24 has secured worldwide rights to The Undertone, the debut horror feature from genre writer-director Ian Tuason, following its July 27, 2025, world premiere at the Fantasia Film Festival. The acquisition came after a competitive bidding war involving six potential buyers, with the deal reportedly closing in the mid-seven-figure range — a remarkable achievement for Tuason's first feature film. The Undertone stars Nina Kiri (The Handmaid's Tale) as Evy, a paranormal podcast host who returns to her hometown to care for her terminally ill mother. Soon after, she begins receiving disturbing audio recordings from a married couple experiencing mysterious noises in their home. The unsettling events pull her into a chilling spiral of paranoia and dread. Fantasia Fest programming director Carolyn Mauricette described the film as 'a slow-burn nightmare' reminiscent of SKINAMARINK and I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House. Produced by Dan Slater of Slaterverse Pictures and Cody Calahan of Black Fawn Films, the film's executive producers include Steven Schneider and Roy Lee of Spooky Pictures, Chad Archibald of Black Fawn Films, and Brit MacRae and Daril Fannin of Kino Studios. Toronto-based Tuason is known for his award-winning work in the genre space, including live-action virtual reality horror shorts that have amassed over 14 million views online and screened at SXSW, Fantasia, and Cannes. The distribution deal was negotiated by Stuart Manashil of Novo, Black Fawn Distro, and 3 Arts Entertainment.

Did Kylie Jenner's birthday hint trouble with Timothée Chalamet?

Kylie Jenner's 28th birthday has set the internet ablaze with rumours of a split from Timothée Chalamet, as eagle-eyed fans noticed the actor's conspicuous absence from her celebrations. Known for her extravagant parties and carefully curated public image, Kylie marked her big day surrounded by close friends and family, yet one of the most talked-about details was who wasn't there. While Kylie shared glamorous snaps and videos from the festivities, Chalamet, her partner of nearly two years, was nowhere in sight. More telling for some was his Instagram activity on the day. Instead of a loving tribute, the Dune star posted an unrelated black-and-white image of Muhammad Ali in the boxing ring with the caption 'Dream Big.' Followers immediately dissected the post, speculating whether it was a cryptic message or simply a poorly timed coincidence. Kylie's own posts stirred the pot further. In the days surrounding her birthday, she uploaded a carousel of tracks with heartbreak-heavy themes, including Jeff Buckley's soulful Lover, You Should've Come Over and Labi Siffre's bittersweet Crying, Laughing, Loving, Lying. Many interpreted these as thinly veiled hints at trouble in paradise. Despite the frenzy, some argue the couple's lack of public display could simply be a result of conflicting schedules. Chalamet is reportedly in Budapest filming Dune: Part Three, a project expected to keep him tied up for months. This wouldn't be the first time distance has fuelled rumours for celebrity couples. Still, the silence from both sides has only intensified the whispers. Kylie and Timothée have been a constant topic of fascination since their relationship became public at Beyoncé's Renaissance Tour in 2023. Now, their romance is once again making headlines, but for reasons neither has confirmed nor denied. For now, fans are left reading between the lines, wondering if this was a missed birthday or the first sign of an ending.
