TV soap legend Eileen Fulton died aged 91
The actress, best known for her role as Lisa Miller in As the World Turns, died on July 14 in Ashville, North Carolina, after a period of declining health.
Eileen's family confirmed her death on the Groce Funeral Home website, also revealing the funeral will be held on August 9.
Eileen's family have asked for donations to be made to the Reverend James B. McLarty Music Scholarship, or the Margaret Glenn McLarty '28 and Eileen Fulton Music Scholarship Fund instead of sending flowers.
Actress Eileen first appeared in soap As the World Turns in 1960. She remained a member of the cast until 2010, when the CBS show went off air. The star departed the show numerous times, but loved returning.
As a result of the 50 years she spent in the show, Eileen became one of the longest-serving soap actors in US TV history.
She was inducted into the Soap Opera Hall of Fame in 1998, and received a Daytime Emmy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004.
The star was raised in Ashville and moved to New York after graduating with a music degree in 1956. In New York, Eileen studied with acting coaches Sanford Meisner and Lee Strasberg at the Neighbourhood Playhouse. More Trending

In 1970, Eileen co-wrote her first autobiography called How My World Turns. 25 years later, she published another, called As My World Still Turns.
She was also passionate about murder-mystery, writing a series of books dedicated to the genre, as well as a novel called Soap Opera.

As the World Turns aired on CBS from 1956 to 2010. It was a sister show to soap opera Guiding Light, and followed the Hughes, Snyder and Walsh families who lived in Oakdale.

Jay Leno blasts late-night comedy hosts over divisive content as Colbert gets the boot from CBS
Jay Leno is taking aim at modern late-night comedy shows, claiming the hosts are isolating half their viewers in an interview released just days after Stephen Colbert got the boot from CBS. The former Tonight Show host, 75, reflected on the shift in late-night culture during a sit-down interview with Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation president David Trulio. The candid conversation was taped two weeks ago but was recently shared and quickly circulated online. They spoke openly about comedy, politics and what's changed in the late-night world. Trulio began by mentioning to Leno that his jokes had a reputation of being equally balanced in his time on air. 'I read that there was an analysis done of your work on 'The Tonight Show' for the 22 years and that your jokes were roughly equally balanced between going after Republicans and taking aim at Democrats. Did you have a strategy?' Trulio asked. 'I got hate letters saying, 'You and your Republican friends,' and another saying, 'I hope you and your Democratic buddies are happy' - over the same joke,' Leno said. 'That's how you get a whole audience. Now you have to be content with half the audience, because you have to give your opinion.' 'Rodney Dangerfield and I were friends,' Continued Leno. 'I knew Rodney 40 years and I have no idea if he was a Democrat or Republican. We never discussed politics, we just discussed jokes.' 'I like to think that people come to a comedy show to get away from the pressures of life. I love political humor - don't get me wrong. But people wind up cozying too much to one side or the other.' 'Funny is funny,' Leno said. 'It's funny when someone who's not….when you make fun of their side and they laugh at it, you know, that's kind of what I do.' 'I just find getting out - I don't think anybody wants to hear a lecture,' he continued. 'When I was with Rodney, it was always in the economy of words - get to the joke as quickly as possible.' He criticized comedians who inject their political opinions into every monologue and said he preferred making the whole audience laugh rather than pushing an agenda. 'I don't think anybody wants to hear a lecture … Why shoot for just half an audience? Why not try to get the whole? I like to bring people into the big picture,' he said. 'I don't understand why you would alienate one particular group, you know, or just don't do it at all. I'm not saying you have to throw your support or whatever, but just do what's funny.' His comments come in the wake of Colbert's dramatic departure from The Late Show. A media frenzy engulfed The Late Show after Colbert publicly slammed the CBS show's parent corporation, Paramount Global, for settling a defamation lawsuit with Trump for $16 million, calling it a 'big, fat, bribe,' in his opening monologue. Just days after the searing call-out, Colbert told his studio audience that the network was ending The Late Show in May 2026. Speculation has loomed over why the show was canceled, with A-listers and fellow talk-show hosts coming to the comedian's defense. Colbert won an Emmy for his work on The Colbert Report, a satirical show that ran on Comedy Central from 2005 to 2014. After he replaced David Letterman on The Late Show, the program was nominated for the most Outstanding Talk Series at the Emmys from 2017 to 2022. Meanwhile, other late-night legends have rallied behind Colbert in the wake of his show's cancellation. Jimmy Fallon said: 'I don't like it. I don't like what's going on one bit. These are crazy times,' Fallon said, referencing how 'everybody [was] talking about' the decision. 'And many people are now threatening to boycott the network', he said, setting up another punchline. 'Yeah - CBS could lose millions of viewers, plus tens of hundreds watching on Paramount+.' David Letterman also backed his successor and suggested CBS canceled The Late Show because he was 'always shooting his mouth off' about Donald Trump. The 78-year-old late-night legend created The Late Show in 1993 after NBC denied him the chance to succeed Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show. In his first comment on the show's cancellation, Letterman noted that his show was more about political satire than his version of The Late Show but was still complimentary, calling the decision by CBS 'pure cowardice.' 'I think one day, if not today, the people at CBS who have manipulated and handled this, they're going to be embarrassed, because this is gutless,' he told former Late Show producers Barbara Gaines and Mary Barclay.

EastEnders star confirms different side to Oscar as things take a turn
Oscar Branning (Pierre Moullier) is set to do something 'awful' to Peter Beale (Thomas Law) in EastEnders next week. The newcomer has made quite the impact on Albert Square and viewers alike ever since he arrived in the BBC One soap last week. Sister Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa) was forced to take him in after being released from a three-month stretch in a young offenders institute, where he'd spent time for joyriding. Their mum Tanya (Jo Joyner) had made it clear that he wasn't welcome to return to her house as a result of the dodgy characters he was hanging around with. When Oscar tipped off the police about their involvement in the car robbery, they attempted to petrol bomb his property, mistakenly targeting the neighbours instead. Despite his attempts to escape his brutish mates, they've tracked him down to Walford and are seeking revenge. 'Oscar feels threatened as Mike (Tai Hilferink) is a serious guy who doesn't seem to care about getting caught or the consequences,' actor Pierre told us. 'Since he arrived in the Square, Oscar has been all fun and games, but you'll see another side of him this week because Mike wants to make him suffer for what he's done!' Fresh heartbreak for Debbie confirmed in Coronation Street as she makes a plea
2025 has not been the year Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) expected in Coronation Street. When she went to the doctor earlier this year after experiencing some troubling symptoms – forgetfulness, mood swings, blackouts – she expected to be told it was menopause-related. What she was told instead was devastating. Debbie has young-onset dementia, and her symptoms will gradually get worse. At first she tried to carry on as normal without telling anyone. Only her brother Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard) knew about her diagnosis, and he found out by chance and agreed to keep her secret. But as Debbie found herself experiencing more worrying episodes she eventually came clean to her family. Generally she's been met with a lot of support and understanding, and she's reconciled with former partner Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan) who she pushed away because she couldn't cope with the idea of him seeing her deteriorate. Aside from Ronnie, Debbie's main supporters have been her family and she's been especially happy to have Carl back in her life. Carl was largely brought up in Germany and didn't have much contact with Kevin (Michael Le Vell) over the years, although he and Debbie were a lot closer. She's been glad to have Carl around, as he's also been there to support Kevin who was undergoing cancer treatment. So when Debbie faces losing Carl from her life in upcoming episodes, she's not happy at all. Carl gets himself into hot water with Kevin when his brother (and boss) discovers that he's been running a stolen car scam from the garage. In return, Carl discovers that Kevin has been lying about his cancer treatment not working, when in fact he's been declared to be free of cancer following chemotherapy. It's a messy situation, and messier still when Abi (Sally Carman) hears about Kevin's lies from Tyrone (Alan Halsall). Kev pleads that he only made out he needed more cancer treatment because he was so scared that Abi was about to leave him for Carl and he wanted a way to make her stay. This has the effect of infuriating Abi so much that she feels disgusted with Kevin, knowing how he tried to manipulate her emotions and was prepared to let his kids think he still had cancer.
