Decreasing clouds, humidity dropping during the day

Yahoo2 days ago

We'll have clouds and sun this afternoon with breezy conditions, and temperatures will reach the mid to upper 70s. A few isolated showers are possible, mainly south and east of Pittsburgh this afternoon through the evening.
Comfortable conditions will settle in, with a clearing sky tonight and into early Wednesday morning, and lows dropping to the 50s. This clearing will give you a chance to catch a glimpse of the last full moon of spring, the full 'Strawberry Moon,' which reaches its peak Wednesday morning at 3:45 a.m.
We'll have a pleasant start to Wednesday with plenty of sunshine and temperatures jumping to the low 80s. Wildfire smoke from Canada will begin to mix in a little more later Wednesday afternoon and evening and continue into Thursday. Make sure to check back for the latest on this throughout the week.
This dry stretch will also continue through much of Friday, with the chance of a few showers or storms returning later Friday and into the weekend. Make sure you check the latest forecast on Channel 11 News.
If you are heading to the U.S. Open at Oakmont, be sure to grab the sunscreen and a hat, as the UV Index is expected to climb into the high range with the threat of sunburn in as little as 20 minutes. Get the latest updates on the U.S. Open forecast on the Severe Weather Team 11 app.

Pittsburgh's air quality noses into the "sensitive" range on Thursday afternoon

With most being dry today, and day one of the U.S. Open starting up at Oakmont, air quality is certainly the top weather headline. For our region, we normally have two real drivers when it comes to air pollution. WEATHER LINKS: Current Conditions | School Closings & Delays | Submit Your Weather Photos One of those is when we have a ridge of high pressure in place, and ozone is created in the atmosphere. The ozone eventually mixes down to the ground, where it causes respiratory issues for those who may be vulnerable. Forecast for the U.S. Open in Oakmont this week KDKA Weather Center The second thing that we see when high pressure is in place is a 'cap', where sinking air doesn't allow for chemicals trapped at the surface, like pollutants from factories or even car exhaust, to escape into the atmosphere. There is also sometimes a third option when it comes to Canadian smoke. Today's concerns are about 8 parts ozone creation with two parts Canadian smoke. As of 4 a.m., no area is really close to hitting orange. Canadian smoke levels should peak this morning before easing as we head into the afternoon. Ozone levels peak in the afternoon with the sun at its highest angle. Air quality watches and warnings this afternoon in Western Pennsylvania KDKA Weather Center The official forecast has us just barely hitting the orange range due to a mix of both of these conditions. I think the best advice is if you have respiratory issues, or are over the age of let's say 65, you should take it easy today. Be aware of your body and how you are feeling. Everyone else should be fine. Let's get to your forecast. Highs today will hit the mid-80s. I have the noon temperature at 80 degrees. Dew points have ticked up around 10 degrees from yesterday, so humidity levels will be in the moderate range. The rain chance for today is isolated, with almost everyone dry. Rain chances over the next week KDKA Weather Center Rain chances will tick up on Friday with a round of scattered storms expected during the afternoon. Rain and storms could be fairly widespread on Saturday and potentially on Sunday. There may also be a flood risk on Saturday, depending on total rain. Highs will be in the mid-80s on Friday. Saturday and Sunday highs will be near 80°. 7-day forecast: June 12, 2025 KDKA Weather Center Stay up to date with the KDKA Mobile App – which you can download here!

Warm morning leading to plenty of sun, humid afternoon

It's a bit warmer this morning, with most neighborhoods starting off the day in the low 60s. Expect plenty of sun today along with some cumulus clouds and highs pushing into the upper 80s. Humidity will become more noticeable by this afternoon. Friday won't be as warm, but it will be humid with widely scattered thunderstorms popping up during the afternoon. Severe weather is not expected, but storms may contain heavy rain, given the high moisture content. Off and on showers and storms are expected each day this weekend, although no day will be a washout. With more clouds and rain around, temperatures will struggle to get out of the 70s, but it will remain muggy and a bit unsettled going into early next week. U.S. Open weather forecast looks great for first two rounds; good chance of weekend rain

U.S. Open weather forecast looks great for first two rounds; good chance of weekend rain Weather has always been part of the story at Oakmont Country Club, arguably golf's most menacing venue. The venue, ranked No. 1 on the Golfweek's list of best private courses in Pennsylvania, is hosting the U.S. Open for a record 10th time and there could be some adverse conditions during the 125th playing of the national championship. What is the U.S. Open weather forecast? There was plenty of rain in the walkup to the event, and meteorologists with WTAE in Pittsburgh are predicting that Thursday's weather forecast is looking pretty good, with sunny conditions and a high temperature of 88 with light winds of 5-10 mph from the southwest. Friday is looking like some clouds with a high of 84 with about a 25 percent chance of rain, up from just six percent on Thursday. Saturday is where things could change. Forecasters are calling for a high of 75 degrees with a 60 percent chance of rain, with "scattered thunderstorms in the morning becoming more widespread in the afternoon," according to WTAE's forecast. "Thunderstorms in the evening, then variable clouds overnight with still a chance of showers." Sunday's final round at Oakmont also has rain in the forecast after thunderstorms, with a high of 79 and chances of precipitation around 60 percent.
