India Gazette7 hours ago

Hyderabad (Telangana), June 18 (ANI): A bomb threat was received at Hyderabad's Begumpet Airport on Wednesday morning, prompting an intense search operation across the airport premises.
Speaking to ANI, the Assistant Commissioner of Police at Begumpet said, 'Begumpet airport received a bomb threat mail this morning. We are currently conducting a thorough search of the airport and its premises with the bomb squad. Further details will be provided later.'
Authorities launched extensive checks with the help of bomb detection and disposal teams. As of now, no suspicious objects have been found.
This comes just days after several bomb threats were reported at airports and flights in India. A Lufthansa flight (LH752) from Frankfurt to Hyderabad was recently forced to turn back mid-air after a bomb threat was received via email on June 15.
According to official sources, the threat mail arrived at 6:01 PM IST and claimed the aircraft was being targeted. The bomb threat assessment committee advised the flight to return to Frankfurt as a precaution.
'A bomb threat assessment committee was formed, and all procedures were followed as per SOP. In the interest of safety, the airline was advised to divert back to the origin or the nearest suitable airport,' an official said.
A Lufthansa spokesperson confirmed that the flight was diverted out of an abundance of caution. 'Out of an abundance of caution, Lufthansa flight LH752 from Frankfurt to Hyderabad returned to its point of departure after authorities were made aware of a bomb threat posted on social media,' the spokesperson said.
'The safety of our passengers and crew is Lufthansa's highest priority. Affected passengers were provided with accommodation in Frankfurt and will be continuing their journey to Hyderabad today,' the airline added.
On June 17, another bomb threat was reported on IndiGo flight 6E 2706, which was flying from Muscat to Delhi with a scheduled stop at Kochi. The aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing at Nagpur.
DCP Lohit Matani of Nagpur said all passengers were safely deboarded and an investigation is underway. (ANI)

Violence against women is increasing day by day in Odisha: Priyanka Gandhi condemns gangrape of 20-yr-old woman

New Delhi [India], June 18 (ANI): Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday condemned the alleged gangrape of a college student in Odisha's Gopalpur, asserting that the failure to prioritise women's safety constitutes a grave atrocity against them. In a strongly worded post on X on Wednesday, Wayanad MP highlighted the escalating violence against women in Odisha, referring to the recent alleged gangrape at the beach in Gopalpur. The MP from Wayanad also took out a dig Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi over the alleged safety of women in the State. 'The strongest words are enough to condemn the brutality that was meted out to a student by ten men in Gopalpur, Odisha. Violence against women is increasing day by day in Odisha. In a state where the Chief Minister himself admits that about 44,000 women and children have disappeared in the last five years, not giving priority to women's safety is in itself an atrocity against women,' Vadra wrote in her post. The horrific gang-rape of the 20-year-old college student at the Gopalpur beach in Odisha's Ganjam district sparked a row all over the state, with Biju Janata Dal (BJD) calling it a 'complete breakdown' of law and order. BJD chief Naveen Patnaik, expressing shock over the incident, demanded strict action against the perpetrator while advising the BJP-led government to be more 'vigilant' in preventing the 'increasing atrocities against women'. 'The news of the gang-rape at Gopalpur beach, a major tourist destination in Odisha, is deeply shocking and has left everyone shaken. It is strongly condemned. The safety of women in tourist destinations has been questioned. The government should be vigilant in preventing the increasing atrocities against women every day. The government should take strict steps to ensure the safety and security of women in the state,' Patnaik wrote on X. Meanwhile, Congress leaders and workers entered into a scuffle with police earlier today in Odisha's Bhubaneswar as they protested against the recent gang rape case. The protesters, demanding the resignation of the Chief Minister, were marching towards the CM's residence when they were stopped by the police. The police detained several Congress leaders and workers during the protest. Earlier on Tuesday, the police had nabbed all 10 people - six adults and four minors - in connection with the alleged gang rape of the student from Berhampur, who was out with her male friend at Gopalpur beach on Monday, Superintendent of Police, Berhampur, Sravana Vivek M said. According to the police, around 8 pm, 10 local youths, six adults and four minors at the beach overpowered the woman and her male friend. Three of the accused allegedly raped the woman while others kept watch on her male friend. The police immediately launched an investigation after the woman and her male friend registered a police complaint at the police station after 10 pm. According to the Berhampur SP, the police have arrested the six adults and produced the four minors before the Juvenile Justice Board. Police will send pleas to the board to treat the minors as adults, as they all are 17-years-old. Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi expressed deep condemnation of the heinous gang rape incident in Gopalpur, stating that strict and exemplary action will be taken against the perpetrators. Condemning the incident, the Chief Minister termed it as 'highly deplorable and a crime against humanity'. He emphasized that no perpetrator involved in this act will be spared, and the strictest punishment under the law will be ensured, the CM's Office said in a statement. (ANI)

Supreme Court grants protection to minor girl forced into child marriage

New Delhi [India], June 18 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Wednesday granted relief to a minor girl, aged 16, who was forced into child marriage and directed the Bihar and Delhi Police to ensure the safety of the girl and her friend. The girl approaching the apex court has said that her family had married her off to a 32-33-year-old contractor on December 9, 2024, from whom they had taken a loan. A bench of Justices Ujjal Bhuyan and Manmohan also issued notices to the Bihar and Delhi governments. It asked the DGP of Bihar and the Police Commissioner of Delhi to provide full security to the girl and her friend and ensure no harm is caused to them. The bench also sought a status report from the police. It further directed that the police have to be in touch with the girl and her friend so that, in case of emergency, necessary assistance can be provided to them. The girl, a resident of Bihar, filed a petition in the apex court through her friend, saying that her family forcibly married her off and she has been subjected to physical abuse and harassment by her in-laws. The teenager stated that she recently appeared for her Class 10 Board exams and wishes to continue her studies, but her in-laws are not agreeable to it. She has appealed to the apex court to protect her from her family and husband and sought annulment of her forced marriage under the Child Marriage Prohibition Act, 2006. The girl further explained that she willingly ran away from home with a friend. However, her family has now filed a kidnapping case against her friend, concealing the fact that her daughter was married. The petition said that her husband has been pursuing the case personally and has told people in Madhopur village that he would not mind going to jail after killing her. The petition stated, 'The Petitioner is presently on the run with a friend (Saurabh Kumar) and fears they would be killed if they returned back to Bihar or were apprehended in the hunt launched for them.' According to the plea, her husband, a civil contractor, claimed that the girl's parents were indebted to them and she would have to continue in the marriage rather than go for further studies to pursue her dream of becoming a teacher or a lawyer. She sought protection from any coercive action by police till the matter is finally decided by law. (ANI)
