PSL GOAT revealed, Kaizer Chiefs and Pirates fans won't argue

Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have produced some superb PSL footballers. However, the greatest the land has ever seen is a Sundowns icon.
Hlompho Kekana was a combative and explosive character on the pitch, but off it, he's as humble as they come. Regarded by his teammates as a model professional and example, he took care of his body and was fit as a fiddle even at the ripe age of 36. His devotion to a healthy diet didn't do him any harm either.
The retired midfield general remains popular with journalists, too, having always made himself available for calls and interviews. In the aftermath of Sundowns' tenth ABSA Premiership title win, a triumph that completed a fabled 'La Decima', Kekana was effusive when praising his teammates. Those men fought alongside him to snatch the title on the very final day. Kekana was truly a team-oriented man.
Kekana let his football do the talking at Sundowns, collecting a treasure trove of silverware after making the switch from Bloem Celtic in 2011. 8 x Betway Premiership titles
1 x CAF Champions League title
1 x CAF Super Cup
2 x Telkom Knockout titles Hlompho Kekana admits he knew he had 'overstayed his welcome' at Mamelodi Sundowns when his game time became limited. Image: @iDiskiTimes / Twitter
Kekana is the most decorated player in the history of South African top-flight football with eight league titles to his name. He was truly one of Pitso Mosimane's most trusted lieutenants in battle. Somewhat surprisingly, Kekana was only capped 21 times by Bafana Bafana but didn't allow that oddity to get in the way of his quest for club glory.
It's hard to forget Kekana's match-winning display in the 2015 Telkom Knockout against Kaizer Chiefs at Moses Mabhida Stadium. Amakhosi were denied not once but twice from the penalty spot by the excellent Denis Onyango in goal, first from Siphiwe Tshabalala and then Camaldine Abraw. It would be Kekana who smashed home Sundowns' third from a sublime Themba Zwane backheel to seal a 3-1 win.
As was the case on so many occasions throughout his career, Hlompho was on the winning side in a cup final. A year later, Kekana would lift African club football's biggest prize as Sundowns became CAF Champions League kings. Hlompho Kekana was more than a 6. He was also a marauding number 8. Kekana's evolution into a complete midfield player saw him reinvent his style on more than one occasion. Originally a pure defensive midfielder, he moved through the gears as a destructive box-to-box operator, later a classic number 8, and finally, he did a bit of everything on a football pitch with panache and authority.
Nothing quite says 'the complete package' like a midfielder who chips in with crucial goals in big games, thunderbolts from range, curling free-kicks and a nomination for the Puskás award in 2016. Only players with massive personalities can pull off an audacious effort from around 60 yards like Kekana did against Cameroon some six years ago, and this man had those qualities and more in abundance. The Guardian called that goal 'Beckham-esque.'
On March 4th 2012, Mamelodi Sundowns broke the South African record for most goals scored in a single match when they beat Powerlines FC 24-0 in the Nedbank Cup. Kekana helped himself to seven goals on the day as Sundowns showed no mercy to their amateur opponents.
Back when there was a galaxy of Sundowns stars like Zwane, Zungu, Billiat, Modise, Dolly & Tau, Hlompho Kekana was the rock orbiting Lucas 'Masterpieces' Moripe Stadium for almost a decade.

New Orlando Pirates winger: 'I can attack and I can defend'

Betway Premiership giants Orlando Pirates are set to announce Tshepang Moremi sooner rather than later. The need for Moremi comes before the imminent exits of Orlando Pirates wingers like Gilberto and Katlego Otladisa. The speedy winger recently spoke to the media after making his official international debut for Bafana Bafana. It was the 0-0 draw against Tanzania at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on 6 June. Orlando Pirates lineup with the new signings 'I'd say that I am looking forward to keeping on improving. I aim to see myself playing in the Afcon and the Fifa World Cup, so I want to score goals and rack up assists,' Moremi said via Sowetan . The upcoming Orlando Pirates winger added: 'I can attack and I can defend, but I still have to work very hard, so I want to use these two upcoming games against Tanzania and Mozambique to showcase my capabilities.' Mamelodi Sundowns axe defender for new South American star

Mamelodi Sundowns have made a bold move ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup by dropping Argentine defender Lucas Suarez from the squad, clearing the way for a new South American signing. Insiders have revealed that part of the reason behind Suarez's exclusion lies in the club's intent to free up a foreign spot in their squad. The Brazilians have turned their attention towards signing a striker, reigniting their focus on the South American market. 'What has been brought to our attention is that the Brazilians are searching for a striker and have gone back to that route.' Suarez arrived at Chloorkop on a six-month loan deal, which included an option to extend. Despite an encouraging start where he featured ahead of Malibongwe Khoza, his performance dipped, particularly in high-stakes CAF Champions League fixtures where his weaknesses were exposed. Although head coach Miguel Cardoso initially protected Suarez behind the scenes, mounting pressure forced him to reconsider. The Argentine's game time significantly dropped after a string of costly mistakes in domestic matches. Sources close to the club confirmed that a Sundowns official recently attended the TransferRoom summit in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Discussions reportedly focused on new foreign prospects, signalling the technical team's readiness to part ways with Suarez permanently. With no contractual obligation to sign him beyond the loan, Sundowns appear set to let the defender leave quietly, making space for a more impactful addition. Interestingly, the shake-up could stretch beyond Suarez. Adding to this, there is uncertainty surrounding the future of star striker Peter Shalulile, even though he travelled with the team to the United States for the Club World Cup. But talks seem positive recently. 'It would appear the club is now making plans to recruit a possible replacement.' Do Mamelodi Sundowns need a new striker? 'Al Ahly appreciate their coaches more than Chiefs and Pirates'

Former Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane feels Al Ahly fans appreciate their coaches more than Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs. The 60-year-old has been a free agent since leaving Iran earlier this year. Having spent three years at Al Ahly, Mosimane has been well celebrated in Egypt, where he won numerous trophies, including two CAF Champions League titles. 'I think I am more appreciated a little bit outside than in my country, but yes, I am loved in the country,' he told SuperSport TV . 'You see, every time I move around, people give me respect, and I am humbled. It is the game of football that has given me that chance, but in Egypt, it is another story, and that is [Al Ahly], the biggest club, one of the biggest clubs in the world.' Pitso has mentioned South African football culture, where supporters are not intrigued by local coaches upon meeting them. During his Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns days, Mosimane would walk into a mall, and be greeted by some fans while others would continue with their business of the day. In Egypt, however, things are different according to Jingles. 'Look, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs are big in the country, we all know that, but the coach of Orlando Pirates and Chiefs can pass [in town] and it is okay. 'In Egypt, if you coach Al Ahly, you don't pass, they stop you and they treat you like God,' Mosimane concluded. In recent weeks, Pitso Mosimane has been one of the coaches linked to Orlando Pirates following the departure of Jose Riveiro.
