PSL GOAT revealed, Kaizer Chiefs and Pirates fans won't argue

Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have produced some superb PSL footballers. However, the greatest the land has ever seen is a Sundowns icon.
Hlompho Kekana was a combative and explosive character on the pitch, but off it, he's as humble as they come. Regarded by his teammates as a model professional and example, he took care of his body and was fit as a fiddle even at the ripe age of 36. His devotion to a healthy diet didn't do him any harm either.
The retired midfield general remains popular with journalists, too, having always made himself available for calls and interviews. In the aftermath of Sundowns' tenth ABSA Premiership title win, a triumph that completed a fabled 'La Decima', Kekana was effusive when praising his teammates. Those men fought alongside him to snatch the title on the very final day. Kekana was truly a team-oriented man.
Kekana let his football do the talking at Sundowns, collecting a treasure trove of silverware after making the switch from Bloem Celtic in 2011. 8 x Betway Premiership titles
1 x CAF Champions League title
1 x CAF Super Cup
2 x Telkom Knockout titles Hlompho Kekana admits he knew he had 'overstayed his welcome' at Mamelodi Sundowns when his game time became limited. Image: @iDiskiTimes / Twitter
Kekana is the most decorated player in the history of South African top-flight football with eight league titles to his name. He was truly one of Pitso Mosimane's most trusted lieutenants in battle. Somewhat surprisingly, Kekana was only capped 21 times by Bafana Bafana but didn't allow that oddity to get in the way of his quest for club glory.
It's hard to forget Kekana's match-winning display in the 2015 Telkom Knockout against Kaizer Chiefs at Moses Mabhida Stadium. Amakhosi were denied not once but twice from the penalty spot by the excellent Denis Onyango in goal, first from Siphiwe Tshabalala and then Camaldine Abraw. It would be Kekana who smashed home Sundowns' third from a sublime Themba Zwane backheel to seal a 3-1 win.
As was the case on so many occasions throughout his career, Hlompho was on the winning side in a cup final. A year later, Kekana would lift African club football's biggest prize as Sundowns became CAF Champions League kings. Hlompho Kekana was more than a 6. He was also a marauding number 8. Kekana's evolution into a complete midfield player saw him reinvent his style on more than one occasion. Originally a pure defensive midfielder, he moved through the gears as a destructive box-to-box operator, later a classic number 8, and finally, he did a bit of everything on a football pitch with panache and authority.
Nothing quite says 'the complete package' like a midfielder who chips in with crucial goals in big games, thunderbolts from range, curling free-kicks and a nomination for the Puskás award in 2016. Only players with massive personalities can pull off an audacious effort from around 60 yards like Kekana did against Cameroon some six years ago, and this man had those qualities and more in abundance. The Guardian called that goal 'Beckham-esque.'
On March 4th 2012, Mamelodi Sundowns broke the South African record for most goals scored in a single match when they beat Powerlines FC 24-0 in the Nedbank Cup. Kekana helped himself to seven goals on the day as Sundowns showed no mercy to their amateur opponents.
Back when there was a galaxy of Sundowns stars like Zwane, Zungu, Billiat, Modise, Dolly & Tau, Hlompho Kekana was the rock orbiting Lucas 'Masterpieces' Moripe Stadium for almost a decade.

Kaizer Chiefs star set for shock exit – Loan move?

Kaizer Chiefs look set to part ways with rising star Donay Jansen, with the Soweto giants now working behind the scenes to secure him another loan move before the transfer window slams shut. ADVERTISEMENT The 22-year-old striker spent last season on loan at SuperSport United, but he struggled to break into Gavin Hunt's first team, managing only three appearances across all competitions. Despite joining the CHAN squad during their qualifiers, Jansen 'never really got going at SuperSport,' a source revealed. Chiefs have no plans for him this season Before his loan switch, Jansen signed a first-team contract with Amakhosi. However, insiders confirm that the current technical team have no plans to use him this season, leaving his future in limbo. Chiefs are now actively exploring opportunities, with another loan move seen as the most likely option. Surprisingly, Betway Premiership clubs have shown little interest in the youngster. Instead, Jansen could drop down to the Motsepe Foundation Championship, where he stands a better chance of securing regular game time and valuable experience. Jansen determined to prove himself Despite his uncertain future, Jansen remains focused on making a long-term impact at Kaizer Chiefs. 'The player is determined to be part of the Amakhosi team in future,' a close source said. For now, his path to Naturena looks set to go through another loan spell where he can showcase his ability. ADVERTISEMENT Chiefs are racing against time to find Jansen a club before the transfer window closes in the coming weeks. Another loan move could be the defining chapter in his bid to prove himself and secure a permanent place in the Amakhosi setup. Should Kaizer Chiefs let Jansen go? Advertisement Next Stay Close ✕ Ad loading It's been a fantastic ride for the pair and the team, as they didn't take their foot off the pedal after beating Stellenbosch 2-0 and Polokwane City 1-0 respectively. The recent wins and clean sheets added another feather to their caps, as they also won their first two games in charge 1-0 and 4-0 after Nabi was red-carded last season. Now, with four wins and clean sheets on the trot when they are at the helm, it's safe to say Chiefs are in capable hands when Nabi is not around. This is not to suggest that Nabi is the problem in the dugout — far from it. But what's clear is that Chiefs are a different beast altogether when the 59-year-old coach is absent. There could be many reasons for this, especially considering the 'open working conditions and environment' within the club's technical team. Nabi speaks limited English and has had to rely on Kaze for translation during his media briefings — both pre- and post-match. While he might be able to get his message across in English to players during training and on match day, he's less fluent than Kaze and Ben Youssef. That could be one of the Achilles' heels for Nabi, especially during critical phases of a game when the team needs to react quickly. Nabi has shown that he is a team player rather than a sole decision-maker, often communicating and heeding advice from his technical staff — especially Kaze — but ultimately, the buck stops with him. So, in cases where contrasting suggestions arise from his staff, the final word and decision must come from him. That, at times, could come back to bite him. Ben Youssef and Kaze might not face the same difficulty; they could more easily find common ground for a balanced approach. That could be a masterstroke, especially given Kaze's admission that Nabi trusts them to lead the team without his interference during his absence. Young, modern coaches often help young players flourish, as there tends to be mutual respect and understanding beyond football. There's usually more freedom and trust between the two parties, leading to the kind of good fortunes that benefit the team across the board. Playing under pressure can either make or break a team. While Chiefs won the Nedbank Cup last season, the reality is they still endured a disappointing campaign. Pressure seemed to get to Nabi last season as he backtracked on building the team around youngsters, instead relying mostly on senior players — an approach that still failed.
