Harry and Meghan 'disappointed' over huge snub as they 'don't pack a punch'
It emerged that the Prince and Princess of Wales have landed themselves a spot on a prestigious list of the world's best philanthropists, but there was no sign of Prince Harry and Meghan. Now, one royal expert has explained why this might be the case
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will have been disappointed to not take a prestigious honour that was handed to the Prince and Princess of Wales, according to an expert. It emerged that William and Kate have been included in the Time 100 Philanthropy 2025 list, but Harry and Meghan were not.
Kate and William were included in the magazine's Innovators category for 'modernising royal philanthropy' and praised for being 'less concerned with cultural preservation and more attuned to social issues'. But it was a different story for Harry and Meghan who were snubbed from this year's list, despite being included four years ago.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who quit their royal roles in 2020 to pursue private ventures in the corporate world, previously secured a spot on Time's roster of the most influential figures back in 2021, which included a cover feature on the prestigious publication.
However, the couple, who tout themselves as "shaping the future through business and philanthropy" on their website, did not make the cut this year. Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond said the Waleses thoroughly deserve their place on the list, but believes not getting a mention themselves would have come as a blow to the Sussexes.
She told the Mirror: "I'm sure Harry and Meghan will be disappointed that they haven't made the list, especially as they have emphasised their focus on philanthropy on their website. I wish them well with the work they do, but now, firmly outside the royal family, they simply do not pack the same punch as the prince and princess.'
William and Kate's honour comes as the couple begin rolling out an ambitious project to transform community spaces across the UK, using a mixture of grants and donating personal time from their Royal Foundation.
They have identified several locations around the country which will benefit from financial backing and the creation of new task forces which will benefit from expert advice and guidance from their team. The aim is to create a network of businesses to invest in local projects to upgrade local facilities from community hubs to sports centres, which will be announced in the coming months.
And Jennie added: "There's no denying that William and Catherine carry a lot of clout in whatever field they choose to get involved. And they have each made a significant impact in trying to help solve crucial social issues.
"I think they will be pleased that their efforts have been recognised alongside the likes of David Beckham, Oprah Winfrey, and Melinda French Gates.
"The Prince and Princess have focused their energy on causes like early development, the environment, homelessness and mental health. These are issues that affect large sections of society.
"Their brand of royal patronage is less about elitist cultural preservation and more, as William himself has said, about 'impact philanthropy, collaboration, convening, and helping people'.
"Time magazine cited William and Catherine as innovators for modernising royal philanthropy. It recognised that their strategy is to get corporate and expert support for the causes they are working to highlight. They want to be more than just figureheads: they want to bang heads together and get action going to help solve some of society's many problems."

Gtech knocks £70 off 'lightweight' cordless hedge trimmer with 'plenty of power'
Gtech is offering a hefty discount of over 30% on its cordless hedge trimmer that users are saying makes gardening tasks 'effortless'. The Gtech LHT50 Lightweight Hedge Trimmer can now be purchased for £149.99, down from £219.99, by using the discount code BX64. This nifty saving of £70 is available until July 31, making it perfect timing for Brits wanting to spruce up their gardens in time for summer. It allows them to maintain a well-groomed garden without it feeling like hard work, as the cordless LHT50 is touted as Gtech's 'most effortless trimmer'. It's designed for those fed up with battling with cables, heavy equipment and step ladders. It's described as being 'super light' and 'surprisingly powerful', boasting the same motor as the original model but a third lighter at 2.14kg. The tool can reach up to 10ft and has seven adjustable head positions, with a 140 degree rotating blade enabling easier sculpting of every part of a hedge from the top, sides and base. The trimmer features an 'ultra-sharp' 315mm carbon steel blade capable of cutting even thicker hedges up to 14mm, while a safety switch can help prevent any unfortunate accidents. This Gtech hedge trimmer boasts a cable-free design, yet it can operate for up to 60 minutes on a single charge of its detachable battery pack. The handy LED display indicates the remaining power, ensuring you're never left stranded, as reported by the Mirror. The LHT50 trimmer is easily portable around any outdoor space, thanks to the included safety harness. This combined with an ergonomic design provides comfort during use, even for extended periods. For gardeners tackling more extensive hedge work, the new Bosch Advanced Electric Hedge Trimmer, priced at £190 at Argos, can cut thicker branches up to 34mm, although it is not extendable. A more affordable option is the £170.99 Ryobi 18V ONE+ HP Cordless Hedge Trimmer; however, the battery and charger are not included and must be purchased separately. The Gtech LHT50 Lightweight Hedge Trimmer has garnered an impressive 4.6-star rating from 838 reviews, with 777 of those being four or five stars. Buyers have praised it as 'easy to use' and 'perfect for any age group'. One satisfied customer commented: "This is truly a lightweight hedge trimmer but with a heavy weight cutting action. I needed a lightweight trimmer to keep my daughter's hedge under control and the last one I used was very good but really hurt my back and arms. We had the hedge reduced in height but I found I still required a longer reach to cut the hedge as the width was still pretty large. This certainly fits the bill." Someone else wrote: "This lightweight hedge trimmer is perfect for any age group or those who have difficulty handling a heavier model. No awkward cables to get in the way or accidentally cut through so it is much safer than one with an electric cable. The battery charges easily and gives plenty of power to cut even a long hedge. Also, as it extends, often no ladder is required." Another user acknowledged some limitations of the cordless hedge trimmer, but overall rated it highly, saying: "Perfect for small jobs for most people. Cannot cut thick stems but does a good job. Very light to use and good battery life." One five-star review highlighted the user-friendliness for older gardeners: "This lightweight hedge trimmer is easy to use and handle. I'm in my 70s and had no problem using it at full stretch." "Fantastic, highly recommend this product especially if your priority is lightness," someone else penned. "I needed a hedge trimmer to replace a very heavy pole trimmer that is light yet could tackle a long holly hedge and a separate Leylandii hedge. This product is brilliant – very light but cut both hedges excellently. It also had a good charge life with two lights showing after one hour of use."

Bargain Hunt star jailed over art sales linked to suspected Hezbollah financier
A BBC Bargain Hunt art expert has been jailed for two-and-a-half years for failing to report high-value art sales to a man suspected of financing the militant group Hezbollah. Oghenochuko Ojiri, 53, from Brent, north London, sold around £140,000 worth of artwork to Nazem Ahmad, a man designated by US authorities as a suspected financier for the Lebanese organisation, a court heard last month. Ojiri, from Brent, north London, previously pleaded guilty to eight offences under section 21A of the Terrorism Act 2000. He is believed to be the first person to be charged under the specific offence. The art dealer, who also appeared on the BBC's Antiques Road Trip, was charged with failing to disclose information about transactions in the regulated art market on or before dates between October 2020 and December 2021. US prosecutors say Mr Ahmad was a 'major Hezbollah financial donor' who used high-value art and diamonds to launder money and fund the group. He is accused of helping to evade terrorism sanctions by using front companies to obtain more than $160 million (£120 million) worth of art and diamond services. After new money laundering rules brought the art market under HMRC supervision in January 2020, Ojiri reportedly discussed the changes with a colleague, indicating he was aware of the regulations. The court previously heard that the total value of the artwork sold was around £140,000. Ojiri was sentenced to two years and six months in prison at the Old Bailey on Friday, with a further year to be spent on licence.
