Camara Controls Chaos to Take Brilliant Bahrain F3 Win
Rafael Camara showed his championship credentials with a cool and commanding drive to win the Formula 3 Feature Race in Bahrain, claiming his second victory of the season in style.
The Ferrari Driver Academy rookie was made to work for it. Starting from pole, Camara briefly lost the lead to Callum Voisin after a brave dive into Turn 3 from the Rodin Motorsport driver. But the Trident racer kept his nerve and fought back, reclaiming top spot with a bold move at Turn 7 on Lap 5 — and never looked back.
From there, Camara found his rhythm and began to stretch his legs. As the chaos unfolded behind, he pulled clear, managing his tyres perfectly to finish 5.7 seconds ahead of the field.
'It was a tough race at the start,' Camara said. 'But once I got back in front, I focused on keeping it clean and consistent. The car felt great — I'm really happy.'
Behind him, Voisin had his hands full. He came under increasing pressure from a charging Tim Tramnitz, who produced the drive of the day. Starting a lowly 13th, the MP Motorsport driver carved his way through the pack with some brilliant overtakes — his move on Tuukka Taponen in the final laps securing a deserved podium.
Further back, the midfield was anything but calm. Lap 2 saw a three-way squeeze at Turn 1 involving James Wharton, Ivan Domingues and Matias Zagazeta, while Freddie Slater was forced to retire on Lap 3 with a mechanical issue.
Charlie Wurz had been in the mix early on but faded as the race wore on, losing out to Red Bull juniors Taponen and Nikola Tsolov in the closing stages.
One of the standout performances came from Spain's Mari Boya, who celebrated his birthday in style with a storming drive from 20th on the grid to finish eighth — a gritty and determined recovery that didn't go unnoticed.
As Camara extends his lead at the top of the standings, the F3 grid now looks ahead to Jeddah — but the Brazilian has already made it clear: he's the one to beat.

PSG sign Ukrainian defender Illia Zabarnyi from Bournemouth
AFP | Paris European champions Paris Saint-Germain said yesterday they have signed Ukrainian centre-back Illia Zabarnyi from Premier League club Bournemouth. British media reports said the deal was worth around £57 million ($76.7 million, 66 million euros). 'Paris Saint-Germain are excited to welcome Illia Zabarnyi,' PSG said in a statement, adding he would be the first Ukrainian ever to play for the club. The arrival of Zabarnyi, 22, could jeopardise the place of Brazilian stalwart Marquinhos in the starting lineup. Zabarnyi had an impressive 2024-2025 season in England when Bournemouth finished ninth and the club's supporters voted him their player of the season in the previous campaign. Bournemouth have now sold three of their first-choice defensive lineup from last season after Milos Kerkez moved to Premier League champions Liverpool and Dean Huijsen was transferred to Real Madrid. Qatar-owned PSG, who thrashed Inter Milan 5-0 to win the Champions League for the first time in May, also signed highly-rated Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier last Saturday, a move that appears to herald the possible departure of Gianluigi Donnarumma. The Italian international 'keeper has reportedly not been selected in the squad for Wednes - day's European Super Cup final against Europa League winners Tottenham in Italy.

Aussie qualifier stuns Fonseca in Toronto
AFP | Toronto Australian qualifier Tristan Schoolkate dispatched rising Brazilian talent Joao Fonseca 7-6 (7/5), 6-4 on Monday in the ATP Toronto Masters, ensuring a breakthrough into the world ranking top 100. The 24-year-old from Perth moved to 98th in the ongoing live rankings as he claimed his biggest career victory by knocking out the ATP NextGen champion from last November. Schoolkate, son of a tennis coach, won his first match over a top-50 opponent on his sixth attempt as he dealt out the number 49 teenager from Brazil. The qualifier played a quarter-final this month in Los Cabos and won through qualifying for his spot in the Masters main draw. 'I'm very happy with the result,' Schoolkate said. 'I played a good match and made it tricky throughout. 'He's so young (18) but already an established player. I'm looking forward to my next match.' That will be against 2024 Canadian semi-finalist Matteo Arnaldi of Italy. Schoolkate advanced with 10 aces among his 23 winners. He caught Fonseca in a firstset tiebreaker and broke for a 2-1 lead in the second set on his way to victory in windy and quick court conditions. 'The conditions suit the way I play,' he said. 'I like to serve big and get forward to make things uncomfortable for the opponent.' The Aussie said he had given some thought to his potential top-100 breakthrough but is not stressing over any self-imposed deadlines. 'My goal now is to be in the top 100 but I'll just keep playing week-in, week-out, pushing hard and it will come,' he said. With seeds all receiving byes at the pre-US Open event, the supporting cast again dominated the programme. American Mackenzie McDonald beat Belgian veteran David Goffin 6-4, 6-4 while Spain's Jaume Munar put out Canadian wild card Dan Martin with the loss of just three games. 'I've been improving my serve a lot,' Munar said. 'I'm putting more pressure on the baseline and my mindset is clear. 'I still need to be more aggressive to compete against the best ones, I'm going that more and more but I have a long way to go.' Munar next faces Czech Jiri Lehecka. France's Hugo Gaston advanced when Italian opponent Mattia Bellucci quit injured, handing over a 3-6, 6-4, 2-0 win. Australian Christopher O'Connell joined Schoolkate as a winner with his 6-1, 6-2 defeat of Taiwan's Tseng Hsin Chun. World number three Alexander Zverev is the top seed of the expanded 12-day event, which will play its final on a Thursday instead of the more traditional Sunday. ATP number one Jannik Sinner and second-ranked Carlos Alcaraz along with Novak Djokovic all withdrew with various injuries and fatigue issues prior to the tournament, which began only a fortnight after the Wimbledon final.

Joao Pedro fires Chelsea to final
AFP | East Rutherford Email : editor@ New signing Joao Pedro scored twice on his first start as Chelsea eased to a 2-0 win over Fluminense on Tuesday to seal a spot in the final of the Club World Cup. The Brazilian striker opened the scoring in lethal fashion in the 18th minute of the last-four clash at the MetLife Stadium and struck again shortly before the hour mark as Chelsea set up a showdown with either Real Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain in Sunday's final. Signed from Brighton and Hove Albion last week for a reported £60 million ($79 million), the 23-year-old cut short a holiday and made his debut off the bench in the quarter-final win over Palmeiras. He was then given his first Chelsea start up front here in place of the suspended Liam Delap. Joao Pedro refused to celebrate after either goal against the club with whom he started his career and made 36 top-team appearances before moving to England with Watford in 2020. The result ends Fluminense's impressive run at the tournament after the 2023 Copa Libertadores winners held Borussia Dortmund in the group stage, beat Inter Milan in the last 16 and knocked out Manchester City's conquerors Al-Hilal in the quarter-finals. With their exit go the prospects of a South American winner of the first 32-team Club World Cup, with Chelsea claiming back-to-back victories against Brazilian opposition to reach the final. As always seemed most likely, the trophy will be claimed by one of Europe's superpowers, with the final now guaranteed to be between two of the last five winners of the UEFA Champions League. 'It is a great achievement. It has been a fantastic season –- top four in the league, (winning) the Conference League and now in the final in this competition. We are so, so happy,' Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca told broadcaster DAZN. 'Now finally it is the last game of the season, we can say that, and hopefully we can win the tournament.' Fluminense coach Renato Portaluppi had described his team as the 'ugly duckling' of the tournament due to the enormous difference between their budget and those of the other three remaining sides. This game ultimately proved to be a step too far for their team, captained by 40-year-old former Chelsea centre-back Thiago Silva. 'This was a wonderful Club World Cup,' said Portaluppi. 'There is no crying over spilled milk now. We wanted to get to the final for our fans but we leave with our heads held high, and go back to our reality stronger now than we were before.' Caicedo back Chelsea were without the suspended Levi Colwill and Delap but Moises Caicedo returned after a ban. The Premier League side were simply too strong for their opponents in a game watched by 70,556 fans on a hot afternoon just outside New York City. They went ahead thanks to a wonderful strike by their new forward, who controlled the ball on the edge of the box after Silva had cleared a Pedro Neto cross. Joao Pedro took a touch and curled a shot beyond veteran goalkeeper Fabio into the far corner, before holding up his hands apologetically towards the Fluminense fans behind the goal. The team from Rio de Janeiro were an intermittent threat, and Hercules -- match-winner against Al-Hilal in the last eight -- almost equalised in the 25th minute. He played a one-two with German Cano and lifted the ball over goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, but Marc Cucurella cleared off the line. Fluminense were then awarded a penalty 10 minutes before the interval when a setpiece delivery by Rene struck the arm of Trevoh Chalobah in the box. However, French referee Francois Letexier overturned the decision following a VAR check. 'Had we been awarded the penalty we would have scored and it would have been a different story,' said Portaluppi. Chelsea got their second on 56 minutes, just after Fluminense had sacrificed one of their three centre-backs to send on an extra attacker. Enzo Fernandez released Joao Pedro on the break, and the forward produced another clinical finish in off the bar. There were chances for Chelsea to score further goals after that, but the new boy's double strike sufficed with the only potential black mark on the day the knock which forced Caicedo to limp off before full-time.
