Punjab Police probes Tinder profile suspected to be linked to Amritpal

Hindustan Times5 hours ago

The Faridkot district police have written to various social media platforms, including the popular dating app Tinder, seeking details of accounts suspected to be linked to radical Sikh leader and Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Pragya Singh said on Saturday that a communication was sent to the companies last week as a part of its investigation in the murder case of Sikh activist Gurpreet Singh Hari Nau, in which the jailed MP is a key accused.
Hari Nau, who had once been a close associate of Amritpal, was shot dead in October last year, allegedly at the behest of the incarcerated leader for speaking out against him through a Facebook page 'Hari Nau Talks'.
'During the probe, social media accounts, including Tinder, suspected to be related to the accused, Amritpal, were traced. Screenshots of these suspected accounts were attached in the communications sent separately to different companies. Any further statement will be made after analysing the data,' said the SSP.
An official, seeking anonymity, said the investigators came across screenshots of a Tinder account with the user name 'Amrit Sandhu' where sexually explicit messages were sent.
Sources said that the district police authorities have sought from Tinder and other platforms, details furnished by the subscribers for the said accounts, IP address logs, phone number, location details etc.
'These details will throw light on the possible reasons behind the targeted killing of Hari Nau,' said the source.
Soon after Hari Nau's killing, Punjab director general of police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav had stated that the activist had been killed at the behest of Amritpal. The MP's father Tarsem Singh, however, alleged that attempts were being made at 'character assassination' of Amritpal.

Sikh activist murder probe leads to Tinder account ‘linked' to Amritpal Singh

Punjab Police has sought information from dating app Tinder about an account suspected to be linked with radical preacher and Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh, who has been booked in the murder of a Sikh activist. The Faridkot police, in a letter to Tinder on May 26, said it was probing the murder case of Sikh activist Gurpreet Singh Hari Nau, who was shot dead on October 9 last year while returning home from a local Gurdwara. Nau was a member of the radical outfit 'Waris Punjab De' headed by Amritpal Singh. He used to run a Facebook page 'Hari Nau Talks' and had openly opposed Amritpal Singh's radical views, revealed sources. Police have sought from Tinder the subscriber details, name, DOB, phone number, location information, and IP address logs since January 1, 2019. It has also sought information on all linked e-mail IDs and phone numbers, photographs and media files uploaded, friends/contacts list and mutual matches, chat history and messages exchanged via the Tinder platform and any other detail.

Facebook friend kills Cong worker, murder unzipped

Rohtak: Police have filed a detailed charge sheet in the murder of Congress worker Himani Narwal, alleging that a man she met on Facebook strangled her after a dispute over Rs 30,000, then dumped her body in a suitcase near a bus stand. The accused, 30-year-old mobile repair technician Sachin from Kherpur village, allegedly killed Himani on Feb 28 at her Rohtak home, pawned her jewellery for Rs 1.87 lakh, and attempted to cover his tracks by impersonating her online, police have claimed. Himani, a prominent face in the Congress party's youth campaigns and a participant in Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra, reportedly met Sachin nearly a year ago through social media. Their friendship soured when she allegedly asked him for Rs 30,000, a demand he refused. It's written in the charge sheet that Sachin visited Himani's home in Vijay Nagar on the night of Feb 27 and stayed overnight. A heated argument the next evening escalated into violence, with Sachin allegedly strangling her in a fit of rage. After the murder, police say Sachin stripped her of jewellery, took her laptop and scooter, and rode to his shop in Bahadurgarh. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo He later returned, stuffed her body in a suitcase and dumped it near the Sampla bus stand. CCTV footage captured him dragging the suitcase through the area. The next day, Sachin allegedly used Himani's mobile phone to send text messages to her mother and updated her WhatsApp status in an attempt to delay suspicion. When arrested, he was in possession of her two Apple mobile phones, both of which had been wiped. Those have since been sent to the forensic science laboratory for data recovery. Call detail records show Himani's phone location was aligned consistently with Sachin's before and after her death, further cementing the timeline. Himani's family had suffered previous tragedies already. Her elder brother was murdered 14 years ago, and her father died by suicide a decade later. Her mother had relocated to Delhi with Himani and her younger brother, Jatin, after those incidents. The accused, who has two children and shops in Kanonda and Delhi's Nangloi, was reportedly living apart from his parents despite being their only son.
