We've made huge strides as a team to be in contention at 24 Hours of Le Mans: Charlie Eastwood

Preparations for the Fourth Round of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) will get under way on Sunday, with all teams taking part in two three-hour practice sessions.
It is the only extended non-timed running they can take advantage of around the famous Circuit de la Sarthe before free practice on Wednesday and then qualifying later that day.
After the 2024 edition, Eastwood said he was 'super proud' of his team's efforts despite a chronic lack of straight-line performance starving them of real LMGT3 action. At the end of almost 270 laps and 2,260 competitive miles, they crossed the line 15th in class.
However, considerable work has been going on behind the scenes since then to hone and improve Corvette Racing's TF-Sport-run LMGT3 challenger – the Z06 GT3.R – with most of the engineers' focus centring on Le Mans, the blue-riband meeting on the WEC calendar.
Eastwood – a class winner at the Le Mans when he was part of the Aston Martin Racing family back in 2020 – continues his partnership with Rui Andrade and Tom Van Rompuy.
'Both Rui and Tom are driving incredibly well,' said Eastwood. 'We love the car, and we are able to extract speed out of it.
'So, from our side, when you look at the line-up, we are pretty strong in that regard.
'We didn't have a great race at Le Mans last year, but as a team and a car, we have made huge strides in lots of areas so, hopefully, it can play into our favour.
'We haven't had the performance or results on our side, but the thing I am really hopeful about is that as a crew, as a team and as a Corvette programme, we're executing some really good races.
'With the energy side of things, we will probably have 27 pit-stops. Our guys have become super quick at tyre changes and the strategy has been very good in the last few events.
'When you add that up across 26 or 27 pit-stops, versus just four during the course of a race, it can really make a massive difference in the pitlane.'
The LMGT3 grid is growing for Le Mans from 18 to 24, with a third Iron Lynx Mercedes-AMG and a third Manthey Porsche 911 GT3 R just two of the extra cars joining the permanent FIA WEC line-up.

VinFast founder to inject another $1.5 billion in exchange for R&D assets

Aug 14 (Reuters) - VinFast's (VFS.O), opens new tab founder Pham Nhat Vuong has agreed to buy the EV maker's research and development arm for $1.52 billion, his latest cash injection into the loss-making Vietnamese company as it strives to break even by the end of 2026. The deal will involve Novatech Research and Development JSC, a Vietnam-incorporated entity, being carved out of VinFast Trading and Production JSC (VFTP), its domestic manufacturing arm, VinFast said in a filing to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Novatech will hold investment costs tied to completed R&D projects, while VFTP will continue to lead EV production and future research in Vietnam. VinFast, which debuted on the Nasdaq in 2023, has faced challenges including weak consumer demand and stiff competition. It made a net loss of $712.4 million for the first quarter, although revenue jumped 150% to $656.5 million. VinFast's shares were up 1.4% to $3.59 in pre-market trade. Since its launch in 2017, the company has relied heavily on support from Vuong, who holds about 98% of shares in VinFast and its parent company Vingroup ( opens new tab, where he serves as chairman. The transfer of shares in Novatech to Vuong, valued at nearly 40 trillion dong ($1.52 billion), comprises a fair value assessment of 17.25 trillion dong plus a premium. Intellectual property linked to Novatech's assets will be leased back to VinFast for manufacturing purposes as needed. VinFast has said it has completed the development of its first generation of EVs. Research and development costs were $81.2 million in the first quarter of 2025, down 22.3% year-on-year. The EV maker has set a delivery target of 200,000 cars for 2025, more than double its deliveries in 2024. Most of VinFast's deliveries are in the Vietnamese market. ($1 = 26,230.0000 dong)

WATCH: Aston Martin Valhalla!

Close Aston Martin Valhalla! | Prototype hypercar reviewed This is the new Aston Martin Valhalla, Aston's new supercar - or hypercar, if you think that 1064bhp pushes it from one bracket to the next. It's reviewed here still in prototype form at Aston's discreet development facility inside Silverstone. Aston Martin says that the Valhalla's hardware has been fixed, but that it's still tweaking the software, prior to the car going on sale in spring 2026. The hardware is hardcore. The Valhalla has a two-seat carbonfibre tub, with a mid-mounted 4.0-litre flat-plane crank AMG V8 turned up to 817bhp, plus three electric motors – one in the gearbox, two for the front wheels – to give a system total of 1064bhp and 811lb ft. Just 999 of the £850,000 Valhallas will be built. We'll be behind the wheel again when the production version is finished, but for now sit back and enjoy as Matt Prior brings you technical details, a look around the Valhalla's interior, and finds out what it's like to drive – and drift it– around a race track. Royal Birkdale golf club expansion plans run into opposition

More than 1,100 people have signed a petition opposing plans to build a new practice area at Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport ahead of next year's Open Championship.A Sefton Council report said the plans would change "part of the open land linked to what is commonly known as Birkdale Common to golf course use".Opponents said they wanted to guarantee public access to the common, except during major Council confirmed it had also received 89 letters objecting to the proposals on ecological, road safety and aesthetic grounds. The planning application was submitted by R&A Championships Limited which organises 21 tournaments – including next year's a new practice tee would involve landscaping work, erecting fences and the diversion of a public right of way report from Labour-run Sefton Council stated the development "complies with local and national policies and is recommended for approval".However, the residents' petition highlighted that Birkdale Common was "a well-used public park", and stressed the need for public access to be maintained. 'Fair and transparent' Sefton's Liberal Democrats called the plans "controversial", with the planning process "limiting opportunities for discussion".Opposition leader John Pugh said: "We certainly don't know why the promoters of the British Open Championship are insisting on a practice ground in Southport appreciably longer than the one provided for the Open at Portrush this year."It is difficult to understand why the practice tee at Royal Birkdale isn't good enough and only suitable for hospitality tents. Consultation dates and details have changed and the fencing is a real issue."Sefton Council's planning committee chairman Tom Spring insisted the planning process had been "completely fair and transparent."
