"Youth given new opportunities through various schemes": Piyush Goyal

India Gazette12-07-2025
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 12 (ANI): Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday stated that the youth of the country have been given new opportunities through various schemes during the tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Speaking to the reporters after presenting appointment letters at an employment fair in Mumbai, Piyush Goyal told reporters, 'It is a matter of great joy that today the 16th 'Rozgaar Mela' was organised under the guidance of Prime Minister Modi... During Prime Minister Modi's tenure, the youth of the country have been given new opportunities through various schemes... Through other schemes, he has provided many of our young men and women the chance to connect with the economy...'
Minister of Skill, Employment and Entrepreneurship, Maharashtra, Mangal Prabhat Lodha, was also present.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that India is rapidly moving towards becoming the world's third-largest economy, adding that the country has made progress across every sector in the last 11 years.
Speaking at the 16th edition of the Rozgar Mela, the Prime Minister said that India's manufacturing sector is one of its 'greatest strength' and that the government has taken steps to boost employment in the private sector.
'The focus of the Indian government is also on creating new employment opportunities in the private sector. Recently, the government has approved a new scheme - the Employment Linked Incentive scheme. Under this scheme, the government will provide Rs 15,000 to youth securing their first job in the private sector, meaning the government will contribute to the first salary of their first job. For this, the government has allocated a budget of about Rs 1 lakh crore, and this scheme will help in creating approximately 3.5 crore jobs,' he said.
He also highlighted the steps taken to support manufacturing, saying, 'Today, one of India's greatest strengths is our manufacturing sector. A large number of new jobs are being created in manufacturing... To boost the manufacturing sector, Mission Manufacturing has been announced in this year Budget. In recent years, we have strengthened the Make in India campaign.'
The Prime Minister said that two sectors in particular, electronics and mobile phone manufacturing, and defence manufacturing, have seen massive growth.
'From PLI scheme, 11 lakh jobs were created. In the recent years, mobile phones and electronic sectors saw unprecedented expansion. Today, electronics worth Rs 11 lakh crores are being manufactured. This sector has witnessed growth of more than 5 times in the last 11 years. Earlier, there were only 2-4 units of mobile phone manufacturing. Now, the number has increased to 300 units where lakhs of youth are working...'
He also spoke about the rapid growth in defence production, especially after Operation Sindoor:
'There is one more such sector and after Operation Sindoor, it has been widely discussed. It is defence manufacturing. India is making new records in defence manufacturing. Our defence production has reached beyond Rs 1.25 lakh crores... Today, our country is rapidly moving towards becoming the world's third-largest economy. This is the marvel of the hard work of my youth. In the past 11 years, India has made progress across every sector,' he said.
Quoting a report by the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the Prime Minister said that government welfare schemes have also helped boost employment.
'Recently, a report by the International Labour Organisation stated that in the past decade, over 90 crore citizens in India have been brought under the coverage of welfare schemes. The impact of these schemes goes beyond welfare -- they have also contributed significantly to employment generation. For instance, under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, over 4 crore houses have been built so far. And it's not just about providing homes. The process of building these houses has created countless job opportunities across the country. In this, most of the jobs were created in villages,' PM Modi added. (ANI)

ED freezes ₹110 crore linked to illegal betting platform Parimatch

MUMBAI: The Mumbai unit of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has frozen ₹110 crore lying in mule bank accounts in connection with a money-laundering probe into Cyprus-based illegal betting platform Parimatch. The action followed coordinated searches at 17 locations across the country on Tuesday, including Mumbai, Surat, Delhi, Noida, Kanpur, Madurai and Hyderabad. ED freezes ₹ 110 crore linked to illegal betting platform Parimatch The platform, owned by a Ukrainian national abroad, allegedly amassed nearly ₹3,000 crore from Indian users in 2023-24 alone, luring them with promises of high returns before defrauding them, ED officials said on Thursday. According to investigators, the frozen funds—proceeds of crime—were parked in multiple mule accounts used to layer and divert money to various recipients. Searches also led to the seizure of incriminating documents, digital devices and 1,200 credit cards linked to mule accounts. Complex laundering network The ED's probe, based on a complaint by the cyber police station in Mumbai, has uncovered a multi-layered laundering operation. In south India, user deposits were allegedly funnelled into mule accounts and withdrawn in cash in parts of Tamil Nadu, before being handed to hawala operators. These operators then recharged virtual wallets of a UK-based firm, which were used to buy USDT cryptocurrency in mule accounts run by Parimatch agents. In western India, Parimatch allegedly used Domestic Money Transfer agents to collect betting funds in mule accounts and channel them back through credit card transactions. Investigators have also flagged payment companies whose Payment Aggregator licence applications were rejected by the Reserve Bank of India. These firms allegedly provided backend services to Parimatch disguised as Technology Service Providers (TSPs), offering Application Programming Interface (API) access to integrate mule accounts—often opened in the names of e-commerce and payment service firms—into the platform. The funds were then 'masked' as e-commerce refunds, vendor payments and other routine expenses to obscure their origin and movement, officials said. Aggressive promotion in India To attract customers, Parimatch invested heavily in marketing, sponsoring sports tournaments and tying up with celebrities. Indian-registered entities—'Parimatch Sports' and 'Parimatch News'—were allegedly used for surrogate advertising, funded through foreign remittances. A city - based businessman, who is the complainant in the Mumbai police's case, alleged that he had lost around ₹12.22 crore at the accused illegal platform and its allied applications due to their 'non adherence to fairplay'. The businessman claimed he got attracted to the accused gaming platform's claims related to high returns, sometime in 2021, after noticing its advertisements and celebrity endorsements for it on a social media platform. 'All of us who have lost any money on the accused platform should be compensated,' the complainant told HT.

PCMC recovers 167cr property tax in amnesty period

Navi Mumbai: Panvel City Municipal Corporation recovered Rs 167 crore property tax paid by 60,082 property holders. Since the launch of the amnesty scheme, 37,519 property owners have taken 90% fine exemption with a day left (Aug 15) and collectively availed Rs 64.8 crore. A protest was held on Wednesday on the property tax. The scheme was effective from July 18 to Sept 20 but split into four tiers. Those clearing their outstanding property tax between Aug 16 and Aug 31 would get 75% rebate, between Sept 1 and Sept 10 would get 50% discount and from Sept 11 to Sept 20, a 25% waiver of the fine amount. Thousands hit the streets in Panvel to take part in a protest rally covering about 1 km between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk and PCMC head office. Seven major political parties besides various social and other forums joined the protest terming the property tax levied as unlawful, impractical and intended to divert public attention. Kharghar Colony Forum president, Leena Garad, had appealed to the residents not to pay the property taxes even under the amnesty scheme. Later, leaders jointly handed over a memorandum to the PCMC chief, Mangesh Chitale. Talking to the media, Patil alleged that the ruling party had promised to not hike any tax for five years but started collecting the property tax with fine/interest. There is no rebate offered on the basic property tax but the amnesty scheme launched is only to provide relief on the fines/interest amounts. The parties have alleged that despite PCMC being a 'D' class municipal corporation, the property tax levied is equivalent to that of 'A' class civic body like Mumbai.
