11 August, 2025 – Theon International Plc (THEON) is proud to announce new strategic investments and strategic partnerships as part of its THEON NEXT initiative, building a platform to drive the development of next-generation soldier systems through targeted investments, collaborations, and co-development initiatives.
With a focus on the creation of innovative Digital and Augmented Reality (AR) solutions THEON NEXT aims to onboard best-in-class partners in their field of expertise to help shaping the future of operational dominance in modern warfare environments. To this end, THEON is announcing four major investments / strategic cooperations in the United States and Europe, marking a significant milestone in its journey to continue being a global leader in man-portable electro-optics. These transactions reinforce THEON's commitment to innovation, supply chain security, and transatlantic cooperation in defense technologies.
Following the establishment of a leading position in night vision systems, THEON has successfully expanded into thermal and digital solutions with its new A.R.M.E.D. product family. Similarly to the approach adopted for traditional Night Vision systems, favoring vertical integration and long-term supply agreements, THEON is now proactively stepping further into the rapidly growing Digital and AR domain, which relies on three critical technologies:
Augmented and Virtual Reality Software – the foundation of next-generation soldier systems, enabling immersive situational awareness, enhanced decision- making, and digital overlays in real-world environments.
Micro-displays – essential for next generation visual augmentation systems, with a strategic focus on developing a US-European microLED technology.
Near-Range Wireless Connectivity – enabling seamless, cable-free integration of soldier gear with real-time data transmission.
To successfully face these challenges, THEON announces four major initiatives and agreements that not only constitute relevant milestones in its technological roadmap but also deepen the US-European industrial cooperation:
First, THEON is investing a total of $15 million in Kopin Corporation (KOPIN, NASDAQ: KOPN), a US-based defense micro-display and sub-system specialist with operations in the US and Scotland, UK. This comprises a $7 million interest bearing loan, convertible in preferred stock of KOPIN at a share price range of $3 to $4.5 in THEON's option, and $8 million capital increase for the acquisition of a 49% stake in KOPIN's Scottish subsidiary, which will serve as the foundation for a new European joint venture acting as the global (non-US) conduit for the production and distribution of AR-enabled systems co-developed between KOPIN and THEON and microLED display production. The whole investment in KOPIN of $15 million, is geared towards the co-development of products and reflects the belief by THEON, that the already extensive R&D investments that KOPIN has undertaken have established the necessary foundation, for a cooperation that can promptly translate into cost efficient, AR-enabled products.
This strategic partnership will also see THEON US subsidiary (T-Industries) moving their relevant industrial and product development operations at KOPIN's facility in Reston, VA, which shall become the US manufacturing hub for THEON's AR-enabled and future digital electro-optic products. As part of T-Industries' normal course of business, THEON, over the next five years, will be investing $8 million to support its US operations, as well as the new KOPIN -THEON co-development efforts. This new cooperation will not affect THEON's two existing partnerships in the night vision domain.
Secondly, THEON has signed a renewable minimum two-year supply agreement with eMagin, a US-based manufacturer of OLED micro-displays and virtual imaging technologies. eMagin specializes in high-resolution displays for military aviation, night vision, AR/VR, and other near-eye imaging applications. eMagin is a strategic supplier to THEON, providing most OLED displays used in THEON's products, including A.R.M.E.D. products, including foremost IRIS-C.
Thirdly, THEON has entered into a strategic partnership with ALEREON, a U.S.-based leader in Ultra-Wide-Band (UWB) wireless technology. ALEREON provides battle- proven UWB solutions that form the established Intra-Soldier communication protocol for the U.S. Army, enabling secure, jam-resistant communication between devices such as between THEON's THERMIS, THEA, IRIS-C, and ORION. Unlike conventional protocols like Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, ALEREON's UWB technology delivers unparalleled security, low latency, and resilience in battlefield conditions. Through this partnership, THEON will fully integrate UWB into its A.R.M.E.D. product line, produce it in Greece and will promote this unique solution in Europe and the Middle East as ALEREON's primary partner in the regions.
Lastly, THEON announces a strategic minority investment in Varjo Technologies Oy (VARJO), a Finnish deep-tech company specializing in Virtual Reality (VR) and Mixed Reality (MR) headsets and applications, deepening THEON's reach into the European innovation ecosystem. VARJO was founded in 2016 and supplies the most relevant aerospace and defense companies globally, delivering advanced military-grade VR/MR technology for training and simulation. The strategic collaboration between THEON and VARJO will combine THEON's technological know-how with VARJO'S advanced virtual and mixed reality hardware and software, with the companies having agreed to collaborate closely on multiple product and business initiatives. The agreement envisages an investment in VARJO via a €5 million convertible loan, structured to be converted into VARJO share capital upon the occurrence of defined events. THEON also holds an option to invest an additional €5 million under the same terms. This investment will support VARJO'S continued development of immersive technologies and reinforce THEON's digital expansion strategy under the THEON NEXT initiative, particularly on the development of high-tech products for defense applications.
Christian Hadjiminas, CEO of THEON, stated: 'Following the recent significant KAPPA acquisition, THEON has managed to sign such pioneering agreements, ensuring it retains its leading position in man-portable electro-optics. We are very proud that these arrangements bring the US and Europe closer together to develop the next generation of soldier-borne systems. The partnership initially involves operations in the United States, the United Kingdom, Finland as well as Greece and will be eventually enlarged into Germany and Belgium where our EU thermal/digital hub is being established. Together, we are pushing the frontier of Augmented Reality defense capabilities. These initiatives and investments will be further expanded upon during our announced Capital Markets Day to be held in Athens in November 2025 (details to be publicized). I am very proud of our commercial and R&D teams that have helped secure these agreements in a short time frame following a thorough review of essential technologies and potential partners over the past 12 months.'
Dimitrios Mandridis, CTO of Theon Sensors stated: 'THEON has managed to establish an advanced global technical cooperation framework combining all key technologies of the new inter-connected AR-capable-soldier era, as can be seen by the introduction of THEON's A.R.M.E.D. product line and its ever-growing adoption by modern armies. Every piece of this cooperation ensures that THEON will be at the forefront of new developments in the digital and AR technology space which further evolve THEON's A.R.M.E.D. product line for the benefit of our final customers. THEON's R&D department has been expanded and restructured to enable the integration of all these partnerships.'
Dimitris Parthenis, CFO of THEON, stated: 'Obtaining key technologies—especially when these relate to large companies also operating in the civil sector—through such agreements represents a flexible and financially efficient investment and rapid outcome for all our stakeholders. THEON's option to convert such development funds into equity positions would positively affect its future financial results. The current investment, totaling €25 million over two to five years, is expected to be paid back quickly, through enhancing the features and the price positioning of our current offer and also via the future growth of these companies that have some of the most promising civil and defense technologies. We are proud to be looking to the future with these compelling partners who share our leading entrepreneurial spirit.'
Michael Murray, CEO of KOPIN, stated: 'With defense investments accelerating globally, especially among European NATO allies, strategic partnerships have become critical to delivering next-generation, mission-ready technologies. Positive Points Milestone Scientific Inc (MLSS) reported a 25% revenue growth in Q2 2025, reaching $2.3 million, primarily driven by the dental segment. The company secured Medicare Part B payment rate assignment under CPT code 0770T in multiple jurisdictions, enhancing reimbursement pathways for the CompuFlo Epidural System. International sales more than doubled, contributing significantly to the revenue increase, with international revenue accounting for 48% of total sales. The company has strengthened its leadership team with the appointment of Eric Hines as CEO and Jason Papes as Senior Vice President, Global Head of Sales and Marketing, both bringing extensive experience in scaling operations. Milestone Scientific Inc (MLSS) maintained a solid balance sheet with $1.3 million in cash and no long-term debt, indicating strong financial management. Negative Points Despite the Medicare Part B coverage, adoption of the CompuFlo system in the medical segment has been slow, with only 5 to 10 clinics actively using the product. Domestic dental sales were relatively flat, indicating challenges in growing the US market despite international success. The company reported a loss from operations of approximately $1.5 million for Q2 2025, although this was a decrease from the previous year. Research and development expenses decreased significantly, which could impact future innovation and product development. The company faces challenges with tariffs and international market dynamics, which could affect future growth and profitability. Q & A Highlights Q: Can you discuss the adoption of the CompuFlo system on the medical side, particularly with Medicare Part B coverage, and what steps are being taken to accelerate its adoption? A: Eric Hines, CEO: We currently have between 5 and 10 clinics using the product in the US. The focus is on reimbursement, collecting data, and ensuring doctors are reimbursed appropriately. We plan to invest in specialists to help with claims and data collection, focusing initially on a few clinics to confirm reimbursement processes before expanding further. Q: What are the plans for expanding the sales team under the new Head of Sales, Jason Papes? A: Eric Hines, CEO: Jason brings his prior distribution business, primarily focused in Texas. We are evaluating our current relationships with Axial and Shamrock. The focus will be on US-based sales, particularly in states where we have traction, and potentially hiring additional distribution as needed. Q: What drove the international revenue growth this quarter, and what percentage of total revenue did it represent? A: Keisha Harcum, VP, Finance: International revenue accounted for 48% of total revenue. Growth was driven by additional distributors, larger orders, and improved communication with distributors. The international business tends to be lumpy due to large orders from groups of customers. Q: How are tariffs affecting your international business, and what measures have you taken to mitigate their impact? A: Keisha Harcum, VP, Finance: Tariffs have not significantly impacted us. We have set up direct shipping from our warehouse in China to international partners and have sufficient inventory in the US to avoid tariff-related issues. Q: What is the strategy for expanding reimbursement coverage for the CompuFlo system? A: Eric Hines, CEO: The focus is on deepening relationships in regions with existing reimbursement, collecting data, and ensuring reimbursement processes are solid before expanding. We plan to engage Board members with expertise in reimbursement to assist in this effort. Q: Can you provide an update on the VA status and any progress in that area? A: Eric Hines, CEO: We are focusing on one VA vision in the eastern US to make progress. Each VA operates independently, so the strategy is to succeed in one area first. Neal Goldman, Chairman: Pricing is favorable for both instruments and disposables, and success in the VA could accelerate growth on the medical side. Q: What is the status of the Brazil market, and are there any plans to pursue it further? A: Neal Goldman, Chairman: Brazil remains a long-term potential, but there are no immediate developments due to recent tariffs and other challenges. The focus is on executing in existing markets before expanding to new ones like Brazil. Q: How are clinicians responding to the CompuFlo technology, and is there a plan to leverage their feedback for broader adoption? A: Eric Hines, CEO: We have an advisory group to gather insights from clinicians using the product. The focus is on understanding the pros and cons and collecting data to refine our approach before expanding to a broader market. Aimco sells 5 Boston properties for $740M

This story was originally published on Multifamily Dive. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily Multifamily Dive newsletter. In January 2025, Aimco's board of directors decided to explore alternatives to 'unlock and maximize shareholder value' for the Denver-based REIT. Shop Top Mortgage Rates Personalized rates in minutes A quicker path to financial freedom Your Path to Homeownership Aimco took one step in that direction earlier this month with the sale of a portfolio of five suburban Boston-area properties in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island, totaling 2,719 units, to an affiliate of Harbor Group International for $740 million, according to a news release. HGI completed due diligence and made a $20 million nonrefundable deposit. Four of the five asset sales are expected to close during the third quarter of this year, while the final one is anticipated to close in the fourth quarter. 'The agreement to sell our suburban Boston portfolio represents another important step in our ongoing commitment to maximize and unlock value for Aimco shareholders,' company President and CEO Wes Powell said in the news release. The five properties were built between 1970 and 1974, according to a news release from Harbor Group. Their unit interiors feature stainless steel appliances and hardwood flooring. Amenities across the properties include swimming pools, fitness centers, clubhouses and community green spaces. As of July 2025, the portfolio was 95.7% occupied. Historical occupancy has averaged 97% since 2022. "The addition of these communities will deepen HGI's presence within the Boston area, a market exhibiting robust multifamily fundamentals where we already have a strong operating footprint," said Yisroel Berg, chief investment officer of multifamily at HGI in Harbor Group's news release. Aimco's next moves Aimco remains on track to sell its Brickell Assemblage, which includes The Yacht Club Apartments and the adjacent 1001 Brickell Bay Drive office building, located in Miami, for $520 million, as announced in January. During July, the buyer exercised its final closing extension option and increased its nonrefundable deposit by $7 million, bringing the total to $50 million. Closing is now scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2025. Aimco expects to gain $1.26 billion in gross proceeds from the Boston and Brickell transactions. When accounting for associated property-level debt and the deferred tax liability related to the Brickell assets, net proceeds should be approximately $785 million, or $5.21 per common share. Following the sales in Boston and Miami, Aimco's remaining portfolio will comprise 18 apartment communities, containing 3,457 units. Those properties are concentrated in suburban Chicago and the Washington, D.C., metro area. The REIT also has three lease-up properties slated to be fully stabilized at the end of 2026. Aimco is also developing a waterfront residential tower in Miami, which is on schedule for delivery in 2027, and a controlled development pipeline containing the potential for more than 3,700 new apartment homes, according to the news release. Even after the Boston and Miami sales, Aimco will continue to explore further ways to maximize and unlock shareholder value through additional strategic transactions. Those could include the sale of additional components of the portfolio, individual asset sales or a sale or merger of the company. Morgan Stanley & Co. is serving as the REIT's financial advisor through the process. Aimco spun off from Denver-based Apartment Income REIT Corp. in December 2020. Last April, AIR and New York City-based investment manager Blackstone announced they had entered into an agreement for Blackstone Real Estate Partners X to acquire all outstanding common shares of AIR for approximately $10 billion, including the assumption of debt. Here's How Alibaba's New, AI-Based Sourcing Agent Works

Alibaba International announced Thursday it has released an AI-powered sourcing agent called Accio Agent. The company joins the ranks of other organizations working to bring agentic AI, which is meant to take care of specific tasks autonomously or with little human intervention, to their customers. Agentic applications have become increasingly popular points of discussion in 2025, both for consumer-facing functions like agentic shopping and for backend business tasks like supply chain visibility and sourcing. More from Sourcing Journal Recyclers Rejoice: AI Learns to See What's Beneath the Seams Byte-Sized AI: Debenhams Launches Employee Upskilling Program; Aetrex's New AI-Enabled Foot Scanner Seller Experience Is ThredUp's Next Frontier for AI Alibaba noted in the announcement that Accio has particular potential for small-to-medium enterprises, which often have limited human capital to devote to sourcing activities. Still, these businesses work to maintain complex supply chains with multiple suppliers, which is both time consuming and highly manual. Alibaba developed Accio Agent in an effort to streamline some of the most time-consuming pieces of the sourcing equation for its clients. Alibaba said it trained Accio Agent on 1 billion product listings and 50 million suppliers' offerings and information. That, in turn, provides users with a wide breadth of options when sourcing products via the automated system. The company said its agent has the power to axe weeks' worth of work from the sourcing process, consolidating the same tasks into minutes. Users start by giving Accio Agent a task to research. While the query can be pointed at a specific product or category, the agent can also handle multi-faceted requests, researching various categories and suppliers simultaneously. So, for instance, while one user might tell Accio, 'Find me a supplier based in Vietnam who can make small batches of high-quality T-shirts with a six-week turnaround,' another user might tell Accio, 'Find suppliers that can support a pop-up brand event in New York City. I need a supplier that can provide 150 staff T-shirts, a supplier that can quickly ship tents and coffee cups, a supplier that can produce tote bags for swag bags and items to put in the swag bags. The event will be '70s themed, and I need all products by October 1.' Based on the unique task it has been given, Accio Agent pores over available suppliers, then provides a list of qualified suppliers for each subset of the task it has been given. 'Each supplier is carefully evaluated based on crucial factors, like operational history, international experience, production capacity, local market, track record and certifications,' a promotional video for Accio stated. Once preliminary supplier lists have been issued, the user can narrow their options by giving Accio additional parameters. For instance, the user that needs T-shirts can tell Accio they only want to purchase from a manufacturer that has an Oeko-Tex certification. The user planning the event might tell Accio they only want to buy tote bags made of organic cotton. Based on the additional requirements, Accio provides a finalized supplier suggestion list that compares the merits of each suggested supplier. From there, the user specifies how many units of each item they want to purchase, and Accio drafts outreach to be sent to the selected suppliers automatically. Once inquiries have been sent, users can interface directly with suppliers through Accio's platform. The company contends that Accio allows users to automate 70 percent of the manual tasks associated with sourcing products. In its announcement, Alibaba noted that the agent also offers product ideation, prototyping and compliance-related functions in an effort to break down organizational silos. Kuo Zhang, vice president of Alibaba International, said the agentic function could open new pathways during a time when sourcing has become increasingly convoluted because of the global macroeconomic environment. 'Accio Agent is a highly practical tool which solves a multitude of problems for businesses sourcing globally. It's an AI agent designed to help you do business. It can handle multiple tasks simultaneously, operating like a team of dedicated professionals—sourcing agents, product developers, engineers and market researchers—all working together to grow your business,' Zhang said in a statement.
