Varanasi youth summit: Kashi Declaration adopted for drug-free society
'If a nation, where 65 per cent of the population is youth, falls prey to addiction, only those who break free from it will be able to build the future,' said Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya.
Addressing the Summit, the Union Minister said, 'We have reflected deeply over the last three days across diverse thematic sessions. Based on this collective chintan, the Kashi Declaration is born, not just as a document, but as a shared sankalp for the Yuva Shakti of Bharat.'
The Youth Spiritual Summit on the theme Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat culminated at the Rudraksh International Convention Centre in Varanasi with the formal adoption of the Kashi Declaration.
Organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the Summit brought together more than 600 youth leaders, representatives from over 120 spiritual and socio-cultural organisations, academicians, and domain experts. The event marked a defining moment in Bharat's journey toward a drug-free society by 2047.
This gathering represented a national convergence of youthful energy, spiritual vision, and institutional resolve.
The Summit featured four focused plenary sessions exploring key dimensions of substance abuse: its psychological and societal impacts, the mechanics of drug trafficking and supply chains, strategies for grassroots awareness campaigns, and the role of spiritual and cultural institutions in rehabilitation and prevention.
These deliberations formed the foundation of the Kashi Declaration, which is a visionary commitment to collaborative action against drug addiction, rooted in India's civilizational wisdom and youth leadership.
The Declaration emphasises the integration of spiritual, cultural, educational, and technological efforts to prevent addiction, support recovery, and foster a national culture of sobriety, said a statement.
It proposes institutional mechanisms for multi-ministerial coordination, including the formation of a Joint National Committee, annual progress reporting, and a national platform for linking affected individuals to support services.

Cervical cancer vaccine to come under UIP
Villupuram : The Union health and family welfare ministry has recommended the introduction of the cervical cancer vaccine in the Universal Immunisation Programme (UIP), said Union minister of state for health and family welfare Anupriya Patel . In a written reply to the queries posed by Villupuram VCK MP D Ravikumar, Patel said the recommendation was based on the evaluation of fresh evidence on disease burden and effectiveness of a single dose of the cervical cancer vaccine. Patel said the ministry has initiated a capacity-building exercise for medical and paramedical staff members regarding the vaccine. She said the National Technical Advisory Group for Immunisation recommended the vaccine in the UIP in June 2022. Ravikumar was questioning the ministry about the delay in including the vaccine in the UIP. In a social media post, Ravikumar said he has been raising the issue in Parliament for the last six years. He said chief minister M K Stalin launched the vaccine programme specifically in the Villupuram following his repeated requests. Now, the initiative will be launched across the country, he said. India has highest number of cervical cancer-related deaths in the world. Around one lakh women die every year in the country due to this disease. Among Indian states, TN ranks second in the number of such deaths.

Nagpur: A state-of-the-art 6,000 sq ft facility in north Nagpur will be offering essential diagnostic and dialysis services at some of the lowest rates in the country — MRI for Rs1,200, CT Scan for Rs800, and digital X-ray for just Rs100, and major blood tests at Rs300, which otherwise cost thousands. Remarkably, it is India's first diagnostic centre equipped entirely with "Made-in-India" machines. The late Bhanutai Gadkari Memorial Diagnostic Centre, which was inaugurated on Sunday, has come as a major boost for healthcare infrastructure in north Nagpur. Located at Kamal Chowk, Lashkaribagh, the centre is dedicated to memory of Bhanutai Gadkari, mother of Union minister for road transport and highways, Nitin Gadkari, who presided over the programme when chief minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the facility. "This diagnostic centre will be a milestone in the healthcare sector. Combining empathy with service, it sets an example of how indigenous technology can be used to bring down the cost of essential diagnostics for the common man," said Fadnavis while praising Gadkari's initiative. Gadkari, on an emotional note, said that the centre is not a commercial project, but a service mission inspired by his mother's legacy for compassion and empathy. Bandi Sanjay dares KTR for open debate on BJP MP Ramesh's allegations
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar has dared BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao for an open debate on the charges made against him by BJP MP from Anakapalli C.M. Ramesh accusing him of making a proposal to merge BRS with BJP in 2023. Talking to reporters in Karimnagar on Sunday, Mr. Sanjay alleged that the BRS rule was steeped in corruption. 'BRS leaders had come up with the merger proposal unable to run their party,' he said in reply to a question. However, during his speech at a public meeting in Nizamabad in 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made it crystal clear that BJP is against family-centric parties and politics of nepotism, he noted. 'Let him (KTR) decide the time and venue. I will arrange a public debate either in Karimnagar or Hyderabad to prove Mr. Ramesh's allegations against Mr. Rama Rao,' he said. 'BRS is on the verge of extinction and its leadership is incapable of running the party,' he charged, accusing Mr. Rama Rao of spearheading a false propaganda against the BJP through social media platforms. 'Such lies will not be tolerated anymore,' he warned, and alleged that the Congress leaders in Telangana were not reacting to KTR's 'abusive language' against their own leaders.
