Centre to consider Bangalore Metro Phase-2 and 3A proposals after state approvals: Manohar Lal
New Delhi [India], May 23 (ANI): Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs and Power, Manohar Lal on Friday informed that the revised cost estimate of Bangalore Metro Phase-2 project will be examined for approval once the proposal is duly approved by the State Cabinet and received by the Central Government.
The Minister also reviewed the performance of various urban missions in Bengaluru today, the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs said in a statement.
On approval of Bangalore metro phase-3 A, at present, about 75 km of metro network is operational in Bangalore and about 145 km of metro network is under construction. Recently, just a few months back, Central Government sanctioned 45 km of the metro phase-3 network at the cost of Rs 15,600 crore.
The Government of Karnataka has submitted a proposal for Bangalore phase-3 A proposal of about 37 km at the estimated cost of about Rs 28,400 crore.
The cost estimate of phase 3 A network needs to be examined by an expert agency. Central Government has already given direction in this regard.
The project will be taken up for sanction by Central Government, once a reply is received from Government of Karnataka.
Union Minister further suggested tackling the issues of legacy waste as a priority. Union Minister emphasised the reuse of treated used water.
He stated that reuse of water is a need of the time for increased sustainability in urban areas for fresh water sources.
He has emphasised allowing higher FAR along mass transit corridors, which will help in reshaping cities, reducing road congestion and increasing use of public transport.
During the discussion on the fund requirements of the State, over and above the approved schemes of the Government of India, the Union Minister encouraged State to take up the reforms to claim the 50-year interest-free loan under the 'Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SSASCI) 2025-26'.
The Union Cabinet in 2021 has approved the Bangalore Metro Rail Project Phase 2A (Central Silk Board Junction to K.R. Puram) and Phase 2B (K.R. Puram to Airport via Hebbal Junction) with a total length of 58.19 km. The total completion cost of the project is Rs 14,788.101 Crore.
Implementation of the project will provide the much-needed additional public transport infrastructure to Bangalore.(ANI)

We will ensure successful Amarnath Yatra," he added. The world's tallest railway bridge, Chenab Bridge, stands 359 meters above mean sea level. It will connect Jammu and Srinagar. At an estimated cost of over ₹ 43,000 crore, the USBRL project involved laying out ballastless tracks over bridges and tunnels, spanning deep gorges. Ninety per cent of the route was traversed over 943 bridges and 36 main tunnels, including India's longest railway tunnel, T-50, which stretched more than 12.7 km. Also, on the Katra-Banihal section, the Vande Bharat train will also traverse another engineering marvel: the Anji Khad bridge, India's first cable-stayed bridge. Supported by 96 cables, the 725-meter-long bridge stands 331 meters above mean sea level.

Air India scales up Kathmandu, Colombo, Bangkok routes
New Delhi [India], June 5 (ANI): Air India announced on Thursday that it has added more flights to Bangkok, Colombo, and Kathmandu to meet the growing passenger demand. Effective July 7, 2025, Air India will add a sixth daily flight between Delhi and Kathmandu, increasing frequency from 35x weekly to 42x weekly. Air India will add a second daily flight between Delhi and Colombo, doubling the route's frequency from 7x weekly to 14x weekly. The Tata Group airline will add a third daily flight between Mumbai and Bangkok, increasing frequency from 13x weekly to 18x weekly. Air India said in a statement that the expansion will add over 7,000 seats deployed to and from Bangkok, Colombo, and Kathmandu. The additional flights to Kathmandu and Bangkok will be operated by Air India's best narrow-body aircraft in three-class cabin configuration, including Premium Economy Class, offering a premium full-service flying experience to travellers on the routes. 'Air India's flights to Colombo, Kathmandu, and Bangkok provide seamless one-stop connectivity to and from destinations in North America, Europe, and the Far East,' the airline said. With the added frequency, Air India will operate 42x weekly flights to Kathmandu, 28x weekly flights to Colombo, and 46x weekly flights to Bangkok. Bookings for the additional flights are now open on all channels, including Air India's website, mobile app, airport ticketing offices, contact centres, and through all travel agents. Air India group employs more than 30,000 people, operates over 300 aircraft and carries customers to 55 domestic and 48 international destinations across five continents. Returning to the Tata Sons in 2022 following 70 years under Government ownership, Air India group is in the midst of a five-year transformation program, As part of the transformation, Air India has placed an order for 570 new aircraft. In 2024, sister airlines Air Asia India and Vistara were successfully merged into Air India Express and Air India, respectively, and the Airline opened South Asia's largest aviation training academy. A new flying school is scheduled to open in 2025, and construction of a greenfield maintenance base, to be operational in 2026, is underway. In addition to receiving new aircraft, all existing aircraft are progressively undergoing a full interior refit. (ANI)
