Hans India15-07-2025
Hyderabad: With an aim to have a nutritious Telangana, the government would soon be announcing a 'Telangana Nutrition Plan' to ensure healthy and nutritious food to the Anganwadi centers.
Women and Child Welfare Minister Dhanasri Anusuya (Seethakka) said the government was working in a mission mode with the aim of building a nutritious Telangana. She called on everyone to participate in building a strong and healthy Telangana. She said that a nutritious Telangana would be possible only through collective efforts. She said that Telangana Anganwadi centers would be developed as a model for the country as per the ideas of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. She said that Anganwadi services will be further improved in line with the Telangana Rising-2047 document.
A state-level meeting on strengthening Anganwadi services, improving nutrition among children, and participation of women self-help groups was organised by the Telangana State Women and Child Welfare Department.
In this meeting, representatives of government sector organizations working on nutrition such as the National Institute of Nutrition (NIN), Indian Institute of Millet Research, CFTRI (Mysore), AIIMS, ICRISAT, UNICEF, voluntary organizations such as Pratham, Andhra Mahila Sabha, HARMAN, Bala Raksha Bharati, and senior officials of various welfare departments, civil supplies, education department, TG Foods, SERP, and I&PR departments, who were acting as line departments in providing nutrition, participated and shared their valuable opinions.
After listening to their opinions, experiences, and ideas, Seethakka clarified that Telangana was the only state that provides 200 ml of Vijaya milk per day to Anganwadi beneficiaries, nutritious peanuts and cereal bars to teenage girls, and egg biryani twice a week. Seethakka said that based on the opinions and experiences of experts, an action plan for a nutritious Telangana would be formulated and implemented. She said that while the supply of nutritious eggs in Anganwadis in BJP-ruled states was stopped special programs were implemented in Telangana to provide nutrition to children, pregnant women, lactating mothers and adolescent girls. She said that the issue of providing nutrition to all age groups was under consideration based on the advice of experts.
She revealed that mobile Anganwadis would be introduced in areas where there was no construction facility. She said that organizations like NAAC and GEN NTU were preparing models.

Sribhumi set for 24x7 clean tap water with Rs 81.18cr project boost

Silchar: In a major boost to Barak Valley's infrastructure, Assam's public health engineering minister Jayanta Mallabaruah on Sunday laid the foundation stone for a Rs 81.18 crore drinking water supply project in Sribhumi town under the Jal Jeevan Mission (Urban). Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The initiative aims to deliver 24/7 tap water to over 15,000 households across 27 municipal wards, reaching nearly 75,000 residents. The ceremony at the Langai water plant was marked by traditional bhoomi pujan rituals and attended by ministers Kaushik Rai and Krishnendu Paul, BJP district president Sanjeev Banik, and senior PHE officials. Addressing a gathering at the Sribhumi District Library auditorium, Mallabaruah reiterated the state govt's commitment to Barak Valley's development. He said CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has earmarked Rs 350-400 crore for drinking water projects across the region. "Hailakandi alone has received over Rs 100 crore. Projects for Lala and Badarpur are in the pipeline, and construction will begin soon," the minister said, adding that the AMRUT scheme in Silchar is also progressing. He emphasised that Sribhumi's current water treatment infrastructure — commissioned in 1967 for a population of merely 12,000 — is grossly outdated. "This project is designed to meet the needs of today's Sribhumi," he said. The system will include a 129-km distribution network and five elevated service reservoirs (ESRs), strategically placed to ensure efficient water flow across town. While the project's completion target is December 2028, Mallabaruah urged officials to expedite delivery. "Clean water means fewer hospital visits and a healthier, stronger community," he said.

Bandi Sanjay dares KTR for open debate on BJP MP Ramesh's allegations

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar has dared BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao for an open debate on the charges made against him by BJP MP from Anakapalli C.M. Ramesh accusing him of making a proposal to merge BRS with BJP in 2023. Talking to reporters in Karimnagar on Sunday, Mr. Sanjay alleged that the BRS rule was steeped in corruption. 'BRS leaders had come up with the merger proposal unable to run their party,' he said in reply to a question. However, during his speech at a public meeting in Nizamabad in 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made it crystal clear that BJP is against family-centric parties and politics of nepotism, he noted. 'Let him (KTR) decide the time and venue. I will arrange a public debate either in Karimnagar or Hyderabad to prove Mr. Ramesh's allegations against Mr. Rama Rao,' he said. 'BRS is on the verge of extinction and its leadership is incapable of running the party,' he charged, accusing Mr. Rama Rao of spearheading a false propaganda against the BJP through social media platforms. 'Such lies will not be tolerated anymore,' he warned, and alleged that the Congress leaders in Telangana were not reacting to KTR's 'abusive language' against their own leaders. Accusing the ruling Congress of 'pursuing appeasement politics', he demanded that 42% quota be exclusively earmarked for BCs by excluding Muslims from the BC list. New block Earlier, the Union Minister inaugurated the Critical Care Block constructed with Central fund at an estimated cost of ₹23.75 crore at the Government General Hospital in Karimnagar.

Jan Aushadhi Kendra closuresparks Centre-Karnataka turf war

Bengaluru: The closure of several Jan Aushadhi Kendras (JAKs) inside govt hospitals in Karnataka has pitted the BJP-led Centre against the state's Congress govt, which said the move is "administrative". Replying to a question from Belagavi BJP MP and former CM Jagadish Shettar, Union minister of state for chemicals and fertilizers Anupriya Patel said last week that the Centre had written to the state govt in response to the decision to close down the JAKs. Patel said the Centre urged the state govt to reconsider its decision as the generic drugs distribution network had close to 1,500 shops in the state that accounted for a turnover of Rs 5,700 crore. It reasoned that the JAKs, meant for the poor, needed to be kept open for patients coming to state-run hospitals for treatment. "There have been routine complaints to the health department that the medications prescribed by our hospital doctors are made unavailable in our in-house pharmacy and patients are redirected to JAKs to procure the same in generic forms," said a senior health department official. According to the state govt, yet another complaint is that JAKs were in fact selling branded medications while they should only be selling generic ones. This has been confirmed by the food safety and drug administration unit, the health department claimed. According to the department officials, the closure of JAKs is restricted to only 80-85 of these centres, with the remaining 1,400 JAKs being up and running in the state. In fact, the state govt has even decided to close its own additional pharmacy units called Janata Bazaar on hospital premises. There are 15 of them in the state. Speaking to TOI, health secretary Harsh Gupta, while admitting the department is in possession of the central govt letter, said it is yet to discuss the content with minister Dinesh Gundu Rao. "We will have a detailed discussion on the issue with the minister and then take an informed decision," he said. Rao was unavailable for comments. —--- Quote There have been routine complaints to the health department that the medications prescribed by our hospital doctors are made unavailable in our in-house pharmacy and patients are redirected to JAKs to procure the same in generic forms -senior health department official
