HK Actor Simon Yam Spotted Smoking In Public While In Singapore For Lady Gaga's Concert
With Lady Gaga's concert tour in Singapore being the only Asian stop in her 'MAYHEM' tour, it's no surprise that many stars are also in the country to catch the show. One of those stars is veteran Hong Kong actor Simon Yam (任達華), whose appearance sparked slight controversy.
Earlier this week, a XiaoHongShu user posted photos of her with Simon, revealing that she met the actor in Singapore. She wrote in the captions, 'How could someone bump into him twice in one day! And there was no one around him both times! He was really down to earth. He even played rock-paper-scissors and told us to study hard. He's still very handsome.' In a comment, the user added that the star was in town for the Lady Gaga concert.
The post also included a photo of Simon smoking a cigarette beside a trash can by the roadside. Understandably, this image sparked debate amongst netizens, with many criticising him for smoking in public. However, others defended the star, saying he's alone at the moment. Some also criticised the XiaoHongShu user for posting the image, noting that it could damage the actor's image.
Funnily enough, the XiaoHongShu post also sparked conversations about his outfit. The 70-year-old wore a white long-sleeved shirt with a denim vest. He also had on a pair of long trousers and a blue cap. Many lamented that the outfit seemed unsuitable for the hot weather in Singapore, even expressing concern that the actor might get a heat stroke because of all the layers.
Simon wasn't the only foreign star who flew to Singapore for the concert. Hong Kong stars Gigi Leung (梁詠琪), Joey Yung (容祖兒) and Michelle Reis (李嘉欣) were some of the stars at the concert. Celebrity siblings Jennifer (余香凝) and Zoe Yu (余潔滢) also attended the show and played tourists in the city. Taiwanese stars Vivian Hsu (徐若瑄) and Elva Hsiao (萧亚轩) also enjoyed the concert, with Elva spotted sitting comfortably in the VIP lounge.
Imagine going to a concert and seeing more stars than you anticipated! Lady Gaga will hold her last performance on Saturday (24th May 2025), so we might see more famous faces in the crowd then!

Malaysian actor Zhang Yaodong spotted manning steamed seafood stall in Singapore
In a Xiaohongshu post, the user said the stall belongs to Zhang Yaodong and he was working that day because his employee had resigned. Photos: Xiaohongshu Singapore-based Malaysian actor Zhang Yaodong was spotted manning a steamed seafood stall at coffee shop 9007 Kopitiam in the Tampines industrial area on June 4. Clad in a plain white tee, the 47-year-old was standing in front of the cash register and appeared to be taking orders from customers. The Xiaohongshu user who posted about the sighting on June 4 said the stall belongs to Zhang and he was working that day because his employee had resigned. Amid the hustle and bustle, the user noted that the former Mediacorp artiste was polite, and affirmed Zhang in her post by saying that there is nothing better than correcting one's behaviour after making a mistake. The bachelor's image took a hit in July 2024 when rumours surfaced about him fathering children out of wedlock with women of different nationalities. The allegations resulted in him filing a police report, with his manager adding that he will not be addressing the issue again. But in November 2024, Zhang took to Instagram to commemorate his holiday to South Korea with his two daughters, confirming his father status for the first time. In February, Mediacorp's talent management agency The Celebrity Agency stated it was no longer representing him and that he has not participated in the filming of any new shows. Zhang, whose parents used to be hawkers, reportedly used to run a catering business and opened a roast meat stall in a foodcourt. He also ventured into Taiwanese cuisine, selling beef noodles in his home town of Kuala Lumpur. In 2017, he opened an Asian fusion restaurant, Maru, in Tanjong Pagar, but it has since closed. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network

#SHOWBIZ: Cancer-stricken Peter Pang still works to recoup medical expenses
HONG KONG: Despite being diagnosed with stage three rectal cancer in July 2023, Hong Kong singer-actor Peter Pang continues to work tirelessly to recoup the costs of his medical treatment. In a recent update on Xiaohongshu (Red Note), Pang, 54, revealed that he had secured a singing gig at a nightclub in mainland China. He also shared a video from the performance, showing fans enthusiastically singing along as he belted out the 1993 classic 'Sky' – originally sung by Cantopop group Beyond. "I'm grateful that I can still use this body to perform for everyone. I'll keep going," he captioned his post. According to Hong Kong's Headline Daily, Pang recently admitted to struggling financially. The publication reported that after being out of work for a year to focus on his treatment, Pang has exhausted the HK$500,000 (RM270,751) he borrowed to cover both medical and living expenses. With a wife and three children to support, the former TVB star is eager to return to work to begin repaying his debts. "No work means no income. My wife is working, but it's hard for her to shoulder everything alone. The money we borrowed is nearly gone. If this keeps up, we won't make it," he said. Still, the Sinister Beings (2021) actor remains hopeful.
