Como use Nico Paz as inspiration as club eye move for another Real Madrid starlet

Yahoo5 days ago
Como are near an agreement with Real Madrid to sign Spanish centre-back Jacobo Ramon, reports from Italy claim, as Cesc Fabregas' side look to try and emulate the formula that allowed them to sign starlet Nico Paz.
According to what has been reported by TuttoMercatoWeb, talks are well underway over a potential move for the tall defender after the 20-year-old made his first appearances for the La Liga giants in the 2024-25 campaign.
Como look to Nico Paz for inspiration in pursuit of Ramon
Nico Paz signed for Como from Real Madrid last summer of a modest fee of €6 million, with the La Liga side retaining a buy-back clause until 2027.
Since arriving in Italy, the Argentine has been somewhat of a standout player for Como. In 35 appearances in Serie A last season, the forward scored six goals and assisted a further nine.
Now, Fabregas' side will look to wrap up a deal for Ramon – on a similar formula to that which saw Paz join the Italian outfit. He will join on a permanent basis but one in which Madrid will retain the right to buy the player back for a specified period.

Como make Nico Paz transfer offer to Real Madrid

Serie A side Como are confident of retaining Nico Paz despite Real Madrid's lingering link to their star man. Paz was linked with a possible return to Madrid last month, as part of Xabi Alonso's ongoing squad rebuild in the Spanish capital, but he opted against an offer. New defenders have been the focus for Alonso, with Alvaro Carreras joining fellow new arrivals Dean Huijsen and Trent Alexander-Arnold – and Franco Mastantuono will land in August – after he turns 18. Carlo Ancelotti opted to sell Paz last summer as he accepted an offer for the highly-rated midfielder from Como for around €6m. However, the club are still keeping their options open on him, as part of a structured exit package with Cesc Fabregas' side. That included three separate buy-back options that would come into effect in 2025, 2026 and 2027 respectively. Nico Paz's Real Madrid return clause explained The first of those, worth €8m, was triggered at the start of the summer, but as per Sky Sports Italia (via Football Italia), Real Madrid did not activate it before its expiry. Image viaThe situation will be reviewed again in 2026, if Paz maintains his level in Serie A, on the back of a solid first year under Fabregas. The Canarian-born playmaker netted six league goals – with only two Como players scoring more – and eight league assists, bettered only by three players in Serie A. A similar campaign in 2025/26 will keep him firmly on Real Madrid's radar and Mundo Deportivo claim Como want to avoid losing him. Fabregas wants to strike a deal to buy his remaining 50% of rights from Real Madrid – to effectively remove their influence – and delete the two remaining exit clauses. With Real Madrid not losing out as it stands, they could demand at least another €6m to relinquish the 50%, plus an additional payment on the clauses.

Emailed job application supposedly from Xavi was bogus, Indian soccer federation says

India's soccer federation has dispelled speculation Xavi Hernández had applied to coach its national team, saying the job application it apparently received from the former Barcelona player was bogus. The All India Football Federation said Saturday that it had received emailed job applications from senders claiming to be Xavi and Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola, but that neither was genuine. Xavi has been without a team since being let go by Barcelona in June 2024. Guardiola, one of the top coaches in the sport, is under contract with City through June 2027. India is looking to replace Spanish coach Manolo Márquez after he left the position by mutual consent earlier this month following just one win in eight games, and less than a year in the job. The federation said Saturday that it has narrowed a group of 170 applicants to three unnamed finalists. ___

Serie A friendlies: Atalanta, Udinese, Torino, Genoa and Cremonese in action

Several Serie A sides were in action for pre-season friendlies today, as Atalanta struggled against their own Under-23 team, Udinese beat the Qatar national side, with Torino and Genoa victories too. The summer is in full swing and that means a series of test matches for the teams we'll soon see in the Italian top flight. Atalanta made their debut under new coach Ivan Juric with an in-house game against their own Under-23 side, which will play in Serie C this season. Inter transfer target Ademola Lookman was left out officially due to muscular problems. It was tougher than expected for Atalanta, who only won 1-0 thanks to a late goal from substitute Charles De Ketelaere on the Mario Pasalic assist.
