OnePlus is testing a display upgrade

According to a new rumor out of China, OnePlus is currently busy testing a display upgrade for its upcoming phones - namely, panels with 165Hz refresh rate.
The brand hasn't used such a high refresh rate ever before, but is serious about bringing this feature to its lineup. Interestingly, an unnamed mid-range OnePlus phone would be the first to get it, with the flagship line possibly following suit after that. OnePlus 13
The screen in question will have "1.5K" resolution, and that makes it perfect for both a mid-ranger and the upcoming OnePlus 15, since this device has already been rumored to come with a downgrade in resolution. Perhaps OnePlus is trying to make that sting less by offering a higher refresh rate instead.
That's all well and good of course, but ColorOS / OxygenOS / Realme UI are notoriously not friendly towards high refresh rate gaming - for example, we didn't get any of the titles in our usual test suite to go above 60Hz/60fps on the OnePlus 13. With that in mind, it's unclear what the point of going to 165Hz even is - perhaps just to have a nicer-looking, higher number on the spec sheet? In normal use the difference between 120Hz and 165Hz is hard to notice, we'd say. OnePlus 13 256GB 12GB RAM $ 787.02
$ 787.02 512GB 16GB RAM $ 849.99

vivo Vision headset gets an official teaser video

vivo's much-rumored Mixed Reality (MR) headset is going to be fully unveiled on August 21. Its name is unsurprisingly vivo Vision, in a clear nod towards its main competitor, Apple's Vision Pro. Today vivo has released a short teaser video for the Vision in China, and you can see it below. As you'd expect from an official teaser video, everything looks great, from the UI to the hand tracking, to the AI functionality, to the overall sense of immersion that's portrayed. Battery life and comfort are the key concerns with this type of device, as Apple has unfortunately learned the hard way since the triumphant launch of the Vision Pro. So if vivo can deliver a better experience in these areas than Apple, it will be interesting to see - in theory, at least, since the likelihood of any of us putting one of these on is minimal, as vivo is planning to only make the headset initially available as an experience in its stores across China.

HTC Vive Eagle announced with 12MP camera, AI translation and 36-hour battery life

HTC made a big bet on VR years ago when it launched its Vive series headsets, and the maker is now entering a new frontier with its Vive Eagle AI glasses. These are a competitor to the Ray-Ban Meta with the goal of looking like regular glasses but simultaneously offering a FPV camera, on-device AI features and stereo speakers. HTC Vive Eagle Vive Eagle comes in several translucent colors, including Black, Berry, Coffee, and Grey. They sport a 12MP ultra-wide camera, which captures 3,024 × 4,032 px photos and 1,512 × 2,016 px video at up to 30fps. The right frame features an LED capture light, which lets others know you're recording. The glasses come with Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 paired with 4GB RAM and 32GB storage. They weigh just under 49 grams with their Zeiss lenses and offer IP54 ingress protection against water and dust. Vive Eagle supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity and pairs with any iOS 17.6+ or Android 10+ phone via the Vive Connect app. You also get open-ear stereo speakers integrated into the temples. HTC is bringing its Vive AI voice assistant, which is compatible with Google Gemini and ChatGPT (beta). You also get real-time translation with support for 13 languages and on-device conversion to spoken audio. The glasses come with a 235mAh battery. They are rated at up to 36 hours of standby, 4.5 hours of continuous music playback, and 3 hours for voice calls. When you do need to recharge, you can do so with the bundled magnetic charger. It promises a 50% charge in 10 minutes and an 80% top-up in 23 minutes. HTC Vive Eagle will retail for NTD 15,600, which is $521. They are available for pre-order in Taiwan, with open sales set to begin on September 1. HTC has not disclosed any details about a global launch yet. Source
