Denis Bouanga's late goal helps LAFC salvage draw with Fire
Bouanga notched his 14th goal of the season for LAFC (10-6-7) after subbing in for Mathieu Choinière in the 61st minute. The PK was awarded after Son Heung-Min — in his debut with the club — was fouled by defender Carlos Terán.
Chicago (10-9-6) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute on Terán's first goal this season. Philip Zinckernagel collected an assist on the score. Terán has totaled one goal in five straight campaigns.
LAFC pulled even in the 19th minute on a goal by defender Ryan Hollingshead — his second. Nineteen-year-old midfielder David Martínez picked up his first assist this season after notching two in 17 appearances last year.
The Fire took a 2-1 lead in the 70th minute on a goal by Jonathan Bamba — his fourth in his first season in the league. Zinckernagel snagged another assist — his 13th — and Brian Gutiérrez earned his second.
It was the first of three straight home matches in Bridgeview for the Fire whose home these days is Soldier Field. Chicago is 102-55-72 in regular-season play at SeatGeek.
Chris Brady saved four shots for Chicago.
Hugo Lloris totaled one save for LAFC.
Chicago began the day in possession of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference as it tries to make the postseason for the first time since 2017.

Detroit Tigers in rain delay vs. Chicago White Sox at Rate Field. When will game start?
CHICAGO — The Detroit Tigers have been impacted by rain for the second day in a row. The Tigers and Chicago White Sox have been hit with a rain delay before the start of the second of three games in the series Tuesday, Aug. 12, at Rate Field, with rain expected until 8 p.m. This rain delay occurred less than 24 hours after a 63-minute rain delay in the ninth inning Monday, Aug. 11. First pitch was initially scheduled for 7:40 p.m. It's unclear when the game will begin. "It's spotty," Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said before Tuesday's rain delay. "I think we're going to play. It's a matter of when this next cell hits us. There's been some downpours in the last 24 hours. The path to our dugout was full last night within five minutes after the game. It's supposed to be clear enough for us to get the game in, but not clear enough for us to take batting practice." After Tuesday's game, the Tigers and White Sox will play at 2:10 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, in the series finale. For Wednesday's game, the Tigers are expected to deploy a bullpen-only game, likely using right-hander Troy Melton (and possibly left-hander Brant Hurter) as bulk relievers. White Sox reinstate infielder Miguel Vargas from the 10-day injured list
CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago White Sox reinstated infielder Miguel Vargas from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday. The White Sox also brought up right-hander Yoendrys Gómez from Triple-A Charlotte. Right-hander Elvis Peguero was sent down, and outfielder Corey Julks was designated for assignment. Vargas and Gómez were in the starting lineup for the team's game against Detroit. Vargas was at first base, batting sixth. The 25-year-old Vargas had been sidelined by a left oblique strain. Vargas, who was acquired from the Dodgers as part of a three-team trade in July 2024, hit .229 with 13 homers and 44 RBIs in 106 games before the injury. Gómez, 25, went 4-3 with a 2.12 ERA in 14 games with Charlotte, including 11 starts. He was claimed off waivers from the Dodgers on May 10. Gómez is making his first start in his 19th major league appearance.
