
Pillion rider killed as truck hits two-wheeler from behind on Pune's Wadgaon flyover
The deceased was identified as Kiran Pawar, 25, a resident of Shram Safalya Colony in Karve Nagar. His friend Yash Kirdat, 25, also from Karve Nagar, was injured in the accident. Pawar was riding pillion while Kirdat was riding the two-wheeler when the speeding truck allegedly hit it from behind around 5 am. The truck further collided with two cars and escaped from the spot, said the police.
After receiving information, a police team rushed to the spot. They took Pawar and Kirdat to a hospital for treatment. Pawar was pronounced dead while Kirdat was admitted for treatment.
Kirdat lodged the FIR in this case at the Sinhagad Road police station. A police team led by Inspector Dilip Daingade launched a probe into the accident and arrested the truck driver, Mahantesh Andodagi, 37, hailing from Karnataka, Sunday night.
Last month, one man was killed, and several others were injured after a speeding Mercedes car rammed into a motorcycle on the Wadgaon bridge. The police arrested four people travelling in the Mercedes car, including the driver and owner. They booked a case under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act and claimed that the driver was drunk while driving.
In another accident last month, a speeding truck ran over a 36-year-old motorcyclist near the Wadgaon bridge. The truck also hit two autorickshaws, a car and another two-wheeler in the accident.

Chandigarh: E-rickshaw driver robbed at knifepoint in Ram Darbar
A 35-year-old e-rickshaw driver from Ram Darbar was looted at knifepoint by two youths on Monday night near Vikas Nagar light point. While one of the accused managed to escape, the other sustained injuries after jumping from a bridge during the attempt to flee and was caught by the police. During the incident, the victim said that the assailants were heard calling each other by their names, Saurav and Sandeep (HT photo for representation) The victim, Ajane Laxman, a resident of Phase-2, Ramdarbar, narrated in his complaint that he earns his livelihood by driving an e-rickshaw. On August 12, around 8.40 pm, he reached near Vikas Nagar light point when two boys boarded his rickshaw, asking him to take them to Hallo Majra light point. According to Laxman, when the rickshaw reached near the railway bridge on the slip road, one of the boys asked him to stop, saying he wanted to urinate. 'The moment I stopped, one of them pulled out a knife and placed it on my stomach, threatening to slit it open if I resisted. The other also drew a knife. They took my purse from my pocket, which contained my Aadhaar card and some cash. They also snatched my mobile phone kept on the dashboard of the rickshaw,' he told the police. During the incident, the victim said that the assailants were heard calling each other by their names, Saurav and Sandeep. One of them pointed out that some cash had fallen on the ground and asked the other to pick it up. Laxman raised an alarm, drawing the attention of nearby passersby. In the chaos, one of the boys managed to run away, while the other panicked and jumped off the bridge. He was injured in the fall and lay on the spot, unable to escape further. Meanwhile, a PCR vehicle arrived after being alerted about the commotion and shifted the injured accused, who identified himself as Saurav, to the hospital. During questioning, he disclosed the name of his accomplice as Sandeep, a resident of Mauli Pind. Police said the complainant has stated that he can identify the other accused if produced before him. On inspecting the crime spot near the under-bridge slip road, the team recovered a knife which was identified by the complainant as the one used by the accused. A case has been registered under Section 309(4) (robbery) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against both accused, Saurav and Sandeep. Efforts are underway to arrest the absconding accused Sandeep.

Hackers encrypt data of Mahim company, demand money for restoring access
MUMBAI: The computer systems of a paintbrush manufacturing company in Mahim were allegedly hacked by unidentified individuals, leading to the loss of the company's confidential data. When one of the employees tried accessing the system, a message popped up stating to write to an email ID to negotiate a price for decrypting the data, the police said. To decrypt/restore files, please write to us how much payment is to be made. Once payment is made, the files will be made available,' said a police officer. 'The company uses SAP Business One software in its systems. Despite the efforts of their technical team, the data could not be retrieved,' the officer said. Following this, the company hired private experts to check the computers, who found a new SQL folder, indicating a ransomware attack. 'Due to this, the company lost sales invoices, purchase invoices, bank and journal entries, GRN entries, purchase orders, production records, inventory records, Win Man software, TCS/TDS records, spine/ESSL attendance records etc,' he added. Based on the company's senior manager for accounts and finance, Manisha Solanki, the police registered a case on Wednesday against the unidentified individuals under sections 308 (extortion) and 318 (cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and section 43 (penalty and compensation for damage to computer, computer system, etc.) and 66 (computer-related offences) of the Information Technology Act.

Mumbai: An 83-year old woman was duped of ₹7.72 crores by a person posing as a Colaba police officer. The accused told her that she would be arrested in the money laundering case if she did not pay him. 83-yr-old duped of ₹ 7.72 cr by fraud posing as cop When central agencies saw large sums of money being transferred from the victim's account to an account in Cambodia they alerted the Mumbai crime branch which then went to the victim's house in Marine Lines. At first the woman did not open her doors to them, and she later confessed that the accused, posing as a cyber police officer, had told her that fake cops might approach her. The police said that they blocked her account using a helpline number and eventually convinced her to file a complaint. According to the police, the accused, posing as Ajay Basaria from the Colaba police station, called the victim on July 4. He told her that he was investigating a money laundering case and had found large sums of money transferred to her accounts. The police said that she then got another call from someone posing as the inspector of the Colaba police station. The second accused told her that she and her daughter could be arrested since the money transferred into her account was gotten out of criminal activity. When the victim told the accused that she did not have any such accounts, the accused claimed that the bank accounts had been opened in her name using her Aadhaar and PAN cards. The accused then asked her to transfer the sum of money and told her that it would be returned to her after due verification. From July 4 to August 11, the woman transferred around ₹7.72 crore to various bank accounts as directed by the accused. She told the police that the accused had even sent her forged letters to gain her confidence. She grew suspicious when she demanded her money back and the accused began asking for various extra charges despite giving her a clean chit. Based on her complaint, on August 12 the police registered a case under sections 318 (cheating), 319 (cheating by personation), 336 (forgery), 340 (forged document or electronic record and using it as genuine), 204 (personating a public servant), 308 (extortion) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and various sections of the Information Technology Act.
