Two police officers are set to make their first court appearance on Tuesday after they were arrested for corruption for allegedly selling commissioned blank affidavit forms to the public for R100.
The officers, a 41-year-old sergeant and a 31-year-old constable, were stationed at the Table View SAPS station and were arrested on Sunday night.
They now face charges of corruption and defeating the ends of justice.
Western Cape police commissioner, Thembisile Patekile, issued a warning following the arrest.
'Corruption within our ranks will not be tolerated, and every effort will be made to remove any police officer found on the wrong side of the law from the Service,' Patekile said.
Police spokesperson, Andrè Traut, said the matter first surfaced last year when a signed and commissioned statement was discovered in a vehicle at a crime scene in Table View, which sparked an investigation by the Anti-Corruption Unit.
'The arrests stem from allegations that a 41-year-old sergeant and a 31-year-old constable were selling commissioned blank affidavit forms to members of the public at R100 per statement.

Woman attempts suicide as loan shark increases interest to 400%

A woman attempted suicide in KwaZulu-Natal, Phoenix on Monday, 11 August 2025, after a loan shark unexpectedly increased the interest rate. Initially, the interest rate was 50%; however, the loan shark increased it to 400%. They demanded R100 000 in payback for a R20 000 loan. According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), the woman's family mentioned that the loan shark changed the interest rate to 400% after seeing that the debt was almost settled. After the woman resisted paying the high interest, the loan shark threatened to send a group of men to repossess her car if the money was not paid. Feeling scared, the woman borrowed smaller amounts of money to pay the loan shark as he continued making demands. The woman called family members and informed them that she intended to jump off a bridge because she had become overwhelmed with debt. She then requested her family to take care of her child. RUSA Spokesperson Prem Balram said that they informed the family about the next steps they need to take to get help for the woman. A suspect was arrested in Verulam, KZN on Tuesday, 12 August 2025, after attacking a family with a knife. The 36-year-old male suspect entered a property on Aslaam Road in Riyadh with intentions to rob the residence. Two family members were having tea in their yard when they suddenly noticed the suspect approaching them. 'The 78-year-old woman and her male domestic worker fled into the house, followed by the suspect. The robber produced a knife and attempted to steal the metal payer statue, but was confronted by a 54-year-old male who exited the bedroom. He stabbed the victim on his hand and fled empty-handed,' said RUSA. The suspect was later caught on Russom Street. ‘Untrue allegations': IDAC denies warrants for national police commissioner Masemola

Despite allegations, no arrest warrants have been issued for Lieutenant General Fannie Masemola, says IDAC spokesperson. The Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) dismissed claims that arrest warrants exist for National Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Fannie Masemola, emphasising that no such warrants have been issued. In the past weeks, there has been speculation about Masemola's possible arrest following a clampdown on other senior officials in the South African Police Service (Saps), in an investigation involving R45 million in property deals. On Monday, The Citizen reported that Masemola and four senior crime intelligence officers will each face at least four charges for their roles in the multimillion-rand acquisition of buildings by the Saps Crime Intelligence Unit. No arrest warrants for Masemola – IDAC IDAC, and entity of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), refuted these allegations as untrue on Tuesday. 'The NPA's Investigating Directorate Against Corruption has, in the past weeks, received media queries relating to unfounded allegations of warrants having been issued for the arrest of the National Police Commissioner, General Fannie Masemola, and others, and has taken note of numerous false articles that have been published on these allegations,' IDAC spokesperson Henry Mamothame said in a statement on Tuesday. ALSO READ: Police offer R300K reward for info on whereabouts of cop killers 'IDAC maintains what it has repeatedly confirmed to the media: these are untrue allegations; no such warrants have been issued.' At the centre of the speculation is the decision by Saps to buy buildings without going through the normal procurement process through the Department of Public Works. Masemola suspended Crime Intelligence head Lieutenant General Dumisani Khumalo, acting Crime Intelligence supply chain head Brigadier Janse van Vuuren, and finance and administration services head Colonel Samamaya Mayekiso in connection with the matter. Saps property purchases investigation Khumalo was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport in June following an 'extensive' probe into the alleged unlawful purchase of two luxury properties. Last month, the EFF leader Julius Malema said that Masemola would be arrested for conspiring with Khumalo. Last week, the ad hoc committee investigating the allegations made by Mkhwanazi elected Molapi Soviet Lekganyane as its chairperson. He said in his opening remarks that the matters before the committee are of grave concern to South Africa. Mkhwanazi ad hoc investigation The committee is tasked to investigate the veracity and implications of all the allegations made by Mkhwanazi about organs of state and criminal syndicates operating in the country. 'Wherever there would have been unscrupulous activities, South Africans would want us to rise to the occasion and unearth it,' said the chairperson. Woman saved from suicide attempt in bid to escape greedy loan shark

A woman has been saved from a suicide attempt after a loan shark demanded interest of R100,000 on a R20,000 loan. The woman from Phoenix, KwaZulu-Natal, had recently attempted to kill herself twice before she was saved by Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) from jumping off a bridge on Monday. 'Rusa received several calls from friends and family of the victim. According to the family, the loan shark had lent her the cash and changed the interest rates from 50% to 400% when the debt was almost settled. The lender then threatened to send a group of men to repossess her car if the money was not paid,' said Rusa spokesperson Prem Balram. He said the woman then borrowed smaller amounts and paid them over to the loan shark, but he made further demands. 'The mother of a minor daughter made calls to family earlier this week, informing them she intended to jump off a bridge, explaining that she had become overwhelmed in debt. She requested that family care for her child.' Rusa said in recent weeks several people have been intimidated, assaulted and had their valuables forcefully taken from them after they failed to pay back exorbitant interest on borrowed money.
