Court grants bail to clerk in Shalarth scam
Wakde, arrested by Sadar police on allegations of preparing a forged appointment order for co-accused Bhavna Raut, was represented by advocates Kamal Satuja, Kailash Dodani, Vijay Gupta, and Anmol Goswami.
The defence argued that Wakde's arrest was illegal, citing an unjustified eight-hour gap between his detention in Gondia and formal arrest in Nagpur, lack of written grounds for arrest, and delayed medical examination, violating Supreme Court guidelines. The court declared the arrest illegal, granting bail with conditions of bi-monthly reporting and cooperation with the investigation.

Missing MP woman lawyer found near Nepal border — did she stage her disappearance? Here's what cops say
Woman lawyer Archana Tiwari, who went missing around two weeks ago while travelling on a train from Indore to Katni in Madhya Pradesh, was found near the Nepal border in Lakhimpur Khiri district of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday. On the intervening night of August 7 and 8, the 29-year-old lawyer was heading to Katni from Indore for the Rakshabandhan festival. But she did not reach her destination and has been missing since then. She was a practising lawyer at the Indore bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court and was also preparing for a civil judge examination. On Tuesday, she contacted her family to say that she was safe, which allowed police to trace her location near the Nepal border, reported India Today. "Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel finally traced Archana Tiwari in Lakhimpur-Khiri town on the Indo-Nepal border after 12 days of hectic search," Superintendent of Police (Railways) Rahul Kumar Lodha said. The SP also said that the cops are bringing her back to Bhopal, and after recording her statement, details of the entire episode will be known. Archana reportedly staged her disappearance act because of the family pressure to abandon her studies and get married. Her family had arranged her marriage with a Patwari (a local land record officer), according to an India Today report citing the police. 'Archana was engaged to a Patwari and was told to quit her studies to prepare for the wedding. She told one Saransh Chopchen, whom she got in touch with while studying at Indore, about this,' Rahul Lodha said. Earlier, Archana Tiwari's kin had suspected that she was a victim of human trafficking and had sought a CBI probe. "This is a case of human trafficking; however, police are not investigating this angle. I request the chief minister to hand over the investigation to the CBI," Tiwari's uncle Babu Prakash Tiwari had told reporters. He also claimed a youth recently became a victim of poisoning and disappeared from Pipariya town. Archana's last location was traced to Itarsi station. After that, her mobile phone was found switched off, according to the police. On August 7, the lawyer had left for Katni by the Narmada Express train, but did not reach her destination. Following this, her family members had lodged a missing person complaint at the Rani Kamalapati GRP police station in Bhopal. Police searched for clues in areas ranging from Rani Kamalapati station to Itarsi and Katni, and scanned CCTV cameras of stations and surrounding areas.

'CM Rekha Gupta suffered injuries in head, shoulders and hands': Delhi minister Parvesh Verma says attacker was prepared for today's assault; cops say assault was 'life-threatening'
NEW DELHI: Delhi minister Parvesh Verma on Wednesday provided updates on the attack on chief minister Rekha Gupta, saying the assailant had planned the assault in advance and that the CM sustained injuries to her head, shoulders, and hands. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now 'The police are investigating the mindset and motives of the attacker. We know that the attacker had been doing recce of her house and was waiting for today morning. Today, he attacked her. The CM has sustained injuries to the head, shoulders and hands and is being treated.' The attack occurred during CM Gupta's weekly public hearing, or 'Jan Sunwai', at her official residence in Shalimar Bagh around 8.15am. The assailant, identified as Rajesh Bhai Sakriya from Rajkot, Gujarat, reportedly conducted reconnaissance of the CM's residence a day before the attack. CCTV footage shows him recording visuals of the premises and speaking on the phone during his prior visit. A senior police official described the attack as 'serious' and 'potentially life-threatening.' The accused had five criminal cases, including two for knife assault and three under the Excise Act, but was not carrying a weapon during the attack due to strict security checks. Police have registered an FIR under attempt to murder and charges for assaulting a public servant. Sakriya reportedly arrived in Delhi two days prior and stayed in the Civil Lines area. During the attack, he tried to pull the CM towards him and was overpowered by officials and onlookers. Police are conducting a joint interrogation with the IB, Special Cell, and intelligence agencies. According to sources, Sakriya had recorded videos of the 'Jan Sunwai', including the CM's residence and her camp office, indicating premeditation. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now 'He was planning this attack and today, when he got the opportunity, he attacked the CM,' said a police source. Bhanuben Sakaria, mother of the accused, claimed that her son was not politically affiliated and had come to Delhi to protest the Supreme Court's order on stray dogs. 'He loves dogs, cows, and birds. That is why he was upset after the SC said all stray dogs in Delhi should be captured,' she said. Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva said, 'The CM is shaken, but she is doing fine. During 'Jan Sunwai' this morning, a man suddenly caught her hand and tried to pull her towards him.' AAP leader and former Delhi CM condemned the attack. Kejriwal emphasized, 'In a democratic system, differences of opinion and opposition are acceptable, but there can be no place for violence. I hope the chief minister remains completely safe and healthy.' The Ministry of Home Affairs is expected to review the CM's security arrangements following the incident. CM Gupta, who has Z-category protection, has undergone a medico-legal examination and is under observation. (With agency inputs)

'Over 200 raped me in 3 months': 12-year-old girl who left home after failing in school recounts trafficking horror
Synopsis A 12-year-old Bangladeshi girl, rescued from a trafficking ring in Naigaon, Vasai, reported being sexually abused by over 200 men over three months after running away from home due to fear of her parents. Police have arrested ten individuals and are working to dismantle the entire network. TIL Creatives Representative image created by AI A 12-year-old Bangladeshi girl rescued from a trafficking racket in Naigaon, Vasai, has alleged that she was sexually abused by more than 200 men over a period of three months. The girl was rescued on July 26 in an operation by the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of Mira-Bhayandar Vasai-Virar (MBVV) Police with support from NGOs Exodus Road India Foundation and Harmony Foundation. Police have arrested ten people in connection with the case, a TOI report stated. "At the remand home, the 12-year-old girl said she was first taken to Nadiad in Gujarat and sexually abused by over 200 men in a span of three months. This girl has not even reached her teenage years, but her childhood has been stolen by such monsters in the flesh trade," said Abraham Mathai, founder-chairman of Harmony Foundation. Mathai said the girl had left home after failing one subject in school. "As the girl had failed in one subject in school, out of fear of her strict parents she decided to run away from home along with a woman who was an acquaintance. The woman sneaked her into India and pushed her into flesh trade," he said. He demanded the arrest of all the men involved. Police commissioner Niket Kaushik said MBVV police is "using its full force to unearth the entire network and ensure a safe environment for vulnerable adolescents". Mathai said the incident reflected a larger problem. "Behind every such rescue," he said, "is a child who wasn't heard; a child failed first by those meant to protect her, and then by a society that only reacts when it's too late." Activist Madhu Shankar said exploitation of minor girls is common in some parts of Mumbai. "I have often seen minor girls begging in Vashi and Belapur areas, who are often stolen as babies from villages, brought to cities and then exploited. They are handled by one or two elderly women who also push them into prostitution. They are even administered hormonal injections so that they attain puberty earlier," she said. (Based on TOI article)
