Breaking Down the Gripping Ending of Under a Dark Sun
Here's a breakdown of what really happens in the final episode—and how the ending reshapes everything we thought we knew.
Who is Alba's biological father?
One of the key threads running through the series is the mystery of Alba's parentage. As the series unfolds, there are several hints that suggest she is connected to the Lasserre family. Though viewers are led to believe that Arnaud is Alba's father, the finale reveals a bigger twist: Alba is the daughter of Mathieu, Arnaud's son.
We learn that years earlier, Mathieu had a brief affair with Nadia, a young worker on the farm. When their relationship ended, he had no idea she was pregnant. Arnaud, determined to preserve the family's image, forced Nadia to give up the baby and leave the property after he learned of the pregnancy. Alba was raised far from the farm, unaware of her origins, while Mathieu remained oblivious to the fact that he had fathered a child.
Mathieu begins to suspect the truth after noticing Alba's resemblance to Nadia. He secretly takes a DNA test, which confirms his suspicions.
Why did Arnaud include Alba in his will?
When Arnaud dies, Alba's sudden appearance in his will catches everyone off guard — until the full story comes to light.
Years after being expelled from the farm, Nadia reconnects with Alba and tries to secure a better future for her daughter. She contacts Arnaud via email, including photos of Alba and her son, and reminds him of how he forced her to give up her child. In exchange for keeping the past buried, Nadia demands that he formally recognize Alba as an heir.
To avoid public scandal, Arnaud complies and quietly adds Alba to his will, granting her a portion of his estate.
Who killed Arnaud?
The central mystery is resolved in the final episode: the killer was Manon, Arnaud's granddaughter and Mathieu's daughter.
Manon discovers that her mother, Joséphine, had been institutionalized years earlier by Arnaud to keep her from revealing that Mathieu fathered a child with Nadia. Joséphine was effectively erased from the family. Once Manon finds her hidden away in a psychiatric facility, she decides to take revenge.
She kills Arnaud, then infiltrates the investigation by pretending to be Alba's lawyer — a calculated move to steer the narrative and protect herself.
Valentin and the attempt to kill Alba
Valentin first appears as someone who might support Alba. However, his true role is revealed later in the series.
Manon has actually hired Valentin to assassinate Alba. When the plan fails, she turns on him and frames him for Arnaud's murder. This not only shifts suspicion away from her, but also eliminates a potential threat to her cover story.
Hadrien's death and Léo's misjudgment
Hadrien, Manon's brother, is killed in a tragic case of mistaken identity. Léo — Alba's son — goes to the farm to practice archery with him. But when Léo sees a tattoo on Hadrien's back, he panics. It matches the tattoo of the person who had kidnapped him earlier in the series.
Believing Hadrien was his abductor, Léo shoots and kills him.
Later, it's implied that the actual kidnapper was Manon, who has the same tattoo. The mix-up between siblings leads to another irreversible loss and becomes the basis for a final deal between Alba and Manon.
The pact between Alba and Manon
With both women holding damning secrets about each other — Manon's role in Arnaud's death and Léo's responsibility for Hadrien's — they strike a private agreement.
They fabricate a version of events in which Hadrien is framed as Arnaud's killer. This allows the investigation to be closed without further scrutiny. Neither Manon nor Alba faces justice, but both walk away with something preserved: freedom, or at least the illusion of it.
The ending doesn't offer moral resolution — only a calculated exchange of silence.
Alba's new life and the fate of the farm
In the final scenes, Alba is working at a quiet restaurant, far removed from the drama of the Lasserre estate. There's no sign that she has kept in touch with Manon or anyone else from the farm. It's not a triumphant rebirth, but rather a quiet attempt to move on.
In a subtle final twist, it's revealed that Nadia — Alba's mother — has purchased the flower farm. It's a quiet reclaiming of what was taken from her years ago. Without confrontation, she returns — this time with ownership, not exile.

Amazon MGM Studio's James Bond film names ‘Peaky Blinders' writer
The upcoming James Bond movie now has a writer attached to the project. Steven Knight, who has penned projects like Eastern Promises, Apple TV+'s See, Locke and Netflix's wildly popular Peaky Blinders series, was announced as the script writer on Thursday afternoon. He will join director Denis Villeneuve on the highly-anticipated project. David Heyman and Amy Pascal have signed on to produce the project, the first Bond movie in its new home at Amazon MGM Studios. Amazon acquired MGM in 20212, taking control of the extensive collection of 007 movies. It wasn't until February of 2025, however, that the studio was able to negotiate a deal for the rights to the creative control of the character. There has not been a new James Bond announced yet, but the search is apparently on. That hasn't stopped fans from coming up with their own theories on who could take over the mantle from Daniel Craig. Names like Idris Elba, Damson Idris, Callum Turner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Theo James, Tom Holland, Jacob Elordi and Harris Dickinson have all been in the online conversation. Craig became Bond in 2006's Casino Royale and went on to star in five total movies as 007. His final outing as the dapper spy was in 2021 with No Time To Die.

10 Best Fake Songs From Fake Movie Bands
This summer has seen some pretty catchy needle drops in movies, from Superman's Mighty Crabjoys to KPop Demon Hunters flash mob fandoms for Huntr/x and the Saja Boys. The latter Netflix release has reached not only Billboard music charts but also become the most streamed animated feature ever. With that in mind, we look back at our favorite fake bands' best songs of the past 30 years. While half the list includes incredible recent music from hit movies, the other half (and our number one slot) nod at the songs that really propelled this particular niche in movies—think A Goofy Movie. So, if you notice some of your favorites missing, simmer down because we excluded musicals and kept to genre movies that had original songs featured in them. Like Superman, we can't help but think this song is for the cool kids. No matter how hard we tried, we could not get 'Try Everything' out of our heads, and Gazelle (voiced by Shakira) might be back in Zootopia 2. Finally, the full single from Freaky Friday has been released for Freakier Friday sung by Pink Slip's in-universe lead singer Christina Vidal Mitchell. Josie and the Pussycats was such an underrated gem when it came out but was formative for millennials. We know there are so many songs, and it was hard to narrow it to one, so we went with 'Three Small Words' (featuring Kay Hanley as the voice of lead singer Josie), which encompasses the moment in time this movie embodies for a generation. Sammie (Miles Caton) in the Sinners universe went on to become a blues legend, but the night that changed his life was when he first performed 'I Lied to You.' The scene is hands down one of Ryan Coogler's masterpieces, and the music sizzles off the celluloid fever dream… just watch. It took a few years, but the Envy Adams (Brie Larson) on-screen performance of the Clash at Demonhead's 'Black Sheep' was finally released on Spotify and other platforms to enjoy. We love Metric's version, but the angst in the movie version is top tier. The Billie Eilish and Finneas-produced songs from Pixar's Turning Red are all so good. This one was also hard to narrow down, but the chorus of 'Nobody Like U' is never not on my mind. The KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack also has too many killer songs from each band to pick from. While I particularly love 'Soda Pop,' we have to give the Saja Boys props for 'Your Idol' for charting on Billboard. In 'Golden,' we get lyricist Ejae's heart and soul shining through. The powerful anthem is coming for 'Let It Go''s crown in replayability among young animation fans. Powerline is the blueprint, the O.G. of modern fake music pop stars thanks to A Goofy Movie. Vocalist Tevin Campbell made an icon so scene-stealing we're still waiting for a full Powerline album 30 years later… or at least a sequel with more fake music to dance to. Want more io9 news? Coco Gauff and Jalen Sera Share New Vacation Photos After Making Their 2-Year Relationship Public
THE RUNDOWN Tennis star Coco Gauff is just 21 years old, and she's already won major titles across the world, including the 2023 U.S. Open. Last year, she defended the title against Emma Navarro, narrowly losing in the fourth match. Gauff's career, however, is just beginning and there's no doubt she'll be back to play—and win—again. But what is Gauff's life like off the court? Fans have been curious about her romantic life for a while. She often dropped hints about a 'boyfriend,' but it wasn't until June 2025 that she confirmed she has been with artist Jalen Sera for two years. Leading up to that point, the rumored couple was often seen together and frequently commented on one another's social media posts. In a November 2023 interview with the Tennis Channel, Gauff hinted her relationship was serious, sharing the infinity necklace Sera gave her. 'My boyfriend gave this to me,' she said. 'I'm sure a lot of relationships look up to that symbol [of infinity], so I'm not going to explain that.' Here's everything to know about Sera and Gauff and their relationship so far. Sera is an artist from Atlanta who seems to be creative in myriad ways. He does not post frequently on Instagram, but many of his videos are of him playing guitar. He has an IMDB profile and some acting credits. His bio says he was born in Durham, North Carolina, in 2022. He also has a twin named Terence. In a 2024 cover story interview with Vogue, Gauff talked about dating an artist rather than an athlete. 'Some people thought it was someone in tennis and that couldn't be further from the truth,' she shared. 'He's a very nice guy. He's in school about to apply for music school. He wants to be an actor, and he plays the guitar.' Gauff mentioned in a 2024 Time interview that she had been with someone for about a year, saying she wouldn't reveal his name. She added that he was also from Atlanta and not famous. 'This is my first real relationship,' she explained. 'To just have someone to talk to who is not involved in tennis at all gives me a fresh perspective.' Gauff's mother, Candi, shared she had actually taught her daughter's future boyfriend when he was in the fourth grade, so they have potentially known one another for quite a long time. 'My mom always said, if they're bad in school, they're probably bad as adults,' Candi joked. 'He's always been a smart, nice kid.' It seems like they were already close when she won the U.S. Open in 2023. After her victory there, Gauff told reporters that she felt she lost a year earlier because she was thinking too much about the trophy. 'Honestly, I didn't have any of those visions [of winning] 'till last night,' she said. 'You know, I thought about it, but I told myself to get it out of my head, because that's what I did at French. I was envisioning, you know, what would happen if I would win. I think I wanted it too much.' She continued, 'Last night, I started a little bit, but honestly, I just called my boyfriend, and I told him, 'Let's talk until it's time to go to sleep,' so we spoke until 1:00 A.M. and then I went to sleep.' It seems like Sera was in Rome with Gauff for the Italian Open in 2024. She shared a look from one night out, writing, 'POV: I'm your dinner date.' Sera then commented, 'Nights like this… nights like this.' She replied, '@jalensera rewind buttons should exist.' On a carousel of photos in which she modeled a look from New Balance, he hyped her up with one word: 'Icy!' Gauff shared a sweet photo from a day in the park that looks like it was taken by Sera, but it included his twin brother, Terence. Over the image she wrote,'Happy birthday, @jalensera, @iamterencejt 22!!' He reshared it in his Stories, writing,'This was a great day. Thank you, thank you, thank you.' In March 2025, Sera reacted to Gauff's glamorous yellow Miu Miu Oscars look by resharing a photo of her on his Instagram Stories with the caption, 'Regal 💫,' per Us Weekly. He followed up with another Story calling her 'THE star,' adding, 'Like come on man.' In May 2025, Sera publicly cheered Gauff on after her three-set semifinal victory over Qinwen Zheng at the Italian Open. He reposted her Instagram to his Stories, writing, 'Warrior.' In June 2025, Gauff confirmed her relationship with Sera during a BOSE promotional video shoot. In the clip, she listened to an audio message from him that said, 'Just wanted to say you're the absolute coolest person ever. I'm so proud of you. You're doing great and I love you.' It left her smiling. 'That's my boyfriend, and today's actually our two-year anniversary,' she said. A few days later, Gauff shared a photo carousel from her time at home in Atlanta after winning the French Open. She included a mirror selfie with Sera and a group shot with friends. In July 2025, Gauff and Sera attended Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter Tour stop in Atlanta. Gauff embraced the Western theme with a cowgirl-inspired look, which she shared on Instagram. Sera commented 'Bang!' on the post, and shared his own video from the show on his Instagram Stories. After an early exit from Wimbledon later in July, Gauff relaxed with Sera during a canoe trip in Florida. She posted an Instagram from the getaway with the caption, 'just a floridian pisces in her natural habitat 🧜🏾♀️✨,' and Sera shared his own carousel of photos captioned, 'Flori flora.'
