The National Energy Services Company (Tarshid) has partnered with King Abdulaziz Specialist Hospital to launch a comprehensive retrofitting project aimed at enhancing energy efficiency across the hospital's 10 buildings and facilities in Al-Jouf. The project seeks to significantly reduce energy consumption while adhering to the highest international standards.
In a press release issued today, Tarshid's CEO and Board Member, Waled Al-Ghreri, highlighted that extensive on-site surveys and technical assessments were conducted to evaluate the buildings and facilities involved in the project. The results underscored the need for 13 key improvements, focusing on control systems, air conditioning, and lighting. Notable upgrades will include enhancing the chiller control system, scheduling air handling units, and installing variable frequency drives (VFDs) to regulate speed and improve overall efficiency.
Additionally, several existing air conditioning chillers will be replaced with high-efficiency models. The building management system will be modernized and integrated with the new cooling and air conditioning systems to further optimize performance. Moreover, lighting upgrades will replace conventional systems with energy-efficient LED solutions, equipped with occupancy sensors and smart motion detectors to improve operational efficiency.
The project is expected to reduce the hospital's annual electricity consumption from 12.8 million kilowatt-hours to 9.8 million kilowatt-hours. This will represent an estimated 22% energy savings. This a reduction will also save over 4,000 barrels of oil equivalent and cut approximately 1,400 metric tons of carbon emissions. This is the equivalent environmental benefit of planting more than 23,000 tree seedlings each year.
