Texas' Arch Manning pushes back on grandfather Archie Manning's NFL draft claim
But on Tuesday, Aug. 19, the Longhorns' first-year starter had to address his future plans after his grandfather, former Ole Miss and New Orleans Saints quarterback Archie Manning, said last month that NFL teams shouldn't expect his grandson to be available next April.
"Yeah, I don't know where he got that from," Arch Manning told assembled media on Aug. 19. "He texted me and apologized about that, but I'm really just taking it day by day right now."
REQURIED READING: Arch Manning expectations have Texas at No. 1 in preseason poll. Are we sure he is ready?
Archie Manning had previously told Texas Monthly he doesn't anticipate his grandson leaving Texas after just one season starting for the Longhorns.
"Arch isn't going to do that," Archie Manning said. "He'll be at Texas."
Arch Manning is eligible for the 2026 NFL Draft, as he has been out of high school for three seasons. The former No. 1-ranked player in the 2023 recruiting class, according to 247Sports Composite, redshirted his true freshman season with the Longhorns in 2023.
Archie Manning exhausted his eligibility at Ole Miss before going No. 2 overall to the New Orleans Saints in the 1971 NFL Draft. Arch Manning's uncles, Peyton and Eli Manning, also exhausted their eligibility before being selected No. 1 overall in the 1998 and 2004 NFL drafts, respectively.
The 6-foot-4 quarterback started two games last season for Texas while Quinn Ewers was out with an injury. In 10 games last year, which included coming in for occasional snaps in the postseason, Arch Manning completed 67.8% of his passes for 939 yards and nine touchdowns.
His first task as the Longhorns' starting quarterback will be a challenging one, as Texas is set to travel to No. 2 Ohio State in Week 1 to open the season. On top of having to deal with the Buckeyes' overall defense, Arch Manning will have to contend against an Ohio State secondary that includes star safety Caleb Downs, one of the top players at his position in the country.
Texas is scheduled for a noon ET kickoff against Ohio State on Saturday, Aug. 30 in Columbus, Ohio at Ohio Stadium.

NY Giants' Cam Skattebo might play in final preseason game: What to know
Former Arizona State star running back Cam Skattebo could suit up for the New York Giants' preseason finale, Thursday, Aug. 21, and is now more likely to play in Week 1. The do-everything standout for last season's Big 12 champion Sun Devils was cleared to return to practice for the Giants on Tuesday, Aug. 19, Giants coach Brian Daboll told reporters, and reports indicate things are looking good. Skattebo, whose nagging hamstring injury caused him to miss several practices and the Giants' first two preseason games, sits at No. 3 on the running back depth chart. Skattebo was "on the field (Tuesday, Aug. 19) and was involved in team drills." Cam Skattebo's status changes: New York Giants practice update When will Cam Skattebo play? Skattebo's return to practice ahead of the team's preseason finale Thursday, Aug. 21, against the New England Patriots indicates he has a chance to start the season on time, Sept. 7 at the Washington Commanders. He also could play in the preseason game that kicks off at 5 p.m. MST (8 p.m. Eastern). The Skattebo health trending is looking up, according to a report after Tuesday practice from the Giants. Art Stapleton, Giants beat writer for said Skattebo "did more today in team drills than either Andrew Thomas or Malik Nabers. That's not a bad thing for AT or Nabers, just a good thing worth noting for Skattebo and the Giants." Running backs Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Devin Singletary are listed ahead of Skattebo. 'Better than advertised': Cam Skattebo turns heads at Giants training camp Is Cam Skattebo playing against the Patriots? Skattebo, a fourth-round pick by the Giants, has missed much of training camp. Daboll indicated before the Aug. 19 practice that Skattebo's participation could be limited, but it was encouraging news nonetheless for a player expected to receive a healthy dose of touches this season. The Giants will consider resting Skattebo for their final preseason game, Thursday, Aug. 21, at home against the New England Patriots but Stapleton, during his podcast published Wednesday morning, Aug. 20, said, "It would not shock me to see him make a cameo" in the preseason finale. "I'm not talking a full load, but maybe a couple snaps," Stapleton said. "... He was running yesterday and it did not look like he was encumbered in any way." There had been concerns that Skattebo's hamstring issue could result in him being placed on injured reserve after final roster cutdowns on Aug. 26. Such a move would require Skattebo to miss the first four weeks of the regular season. Placing him on IR before the squad is trimmed to 53 would force him to miss the entire 2025 season. That concern has been dramatically altered, however, with the news that Skattebo returned to practice and reportedly performed well. Skattebo set the Arizona State single-season record last year with 1,711 yards. He also scored 21 touchdowns, became the first player in school history to amass 2,000 or more yards from scrimmage in a single season and finished fifth in balloting for the Heisman Trophy. Buffalo Bills sign 3 players on Wednesday
The Buffalo Bills have made three new additions to their roster ahead of Wednesday's practice session, on-boarding running back Elijah Young, cornerback Zy Alexander and offensive lineman Rush Reimer. In corresponding moves, Buffalo released kicker Caden Davis and waived/injured running back Jarveon Howard, the latter of whom was hurt in his first practice with the team. Davis' release certainly suggests that starting kicker Tyler Bass is nearing a return to the field after being sidelined for nearly a month with a pelvic injury. The new additions are all undrafted free agent rookies and will help the team round out their roster for the final preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday, August 23. Alexander, 23, played college ball at two schools (LSU and Southeastern Louisiana) and appeared in 19 games across his final two seasons with LSU. Young also played at two schools during his college career, Missouri and Western Kentucky. He spent his first three seasons with Missouri before transferring to Western Kentucky for his final two seasons. The 23-year-old posted his best season in 2024, where he totaled over 1,000 scrimmage yards and five touchdowns. Reimer comes out of both California and Montana State collegiately, and has already spent some time with the team this offseason.

Arch Manning earns spot on Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award watch list
ARCH MANNING TAKES IT 67 YARDS TO THE HOUSE WITH HIS LEGS 😱It's the longest rush by a Texas QB since Vince Young in 2005. With the start of the college football season less than two weeks away, high expectations are high for the Texas Longhorns. They are currently ranked as the top team in the nation and have been a popular team in preseason watch lists. That continued one Tuesday when Arch Manning earned a spot on the preseason watch list for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award. The award is given each year to the top senior or upperclassman quarterback set to graduate with their class. For many, Manning's latest recognition comes as no surprise. He is seen as one of the best quarterbacks in the nations and has impressed at Texas when given the opportunity. During the 2024 campaign, the New Orleans native completed 61 of his 90 passes for 939 yards. He also found the end zone nine times and averaged 93.9 yards a game. While filling in for an injured Quinn Ewers, Manning was a threat with his legs, recording 108 yards on 25 attempts. As Maning showed fans a taste of what the future held, excitement started to build in Austin. The Isidore Newman High School product was also able to take care of the football, only throwing two interceptions. So in his college career, Maning is 2-0 as a starter. ARCH MANNING 49-YARD TOUCHDOWN TO DEANDRE MOORE JR. 🔥STOOD IN THE POCKET AND DELIVERED A DART 🎯 Over the last few weeks, Manning has been a popular name in headlines. He has also earned spots on preseason watch lists for the Davey O'Brien Award, Walter Camp National Player of the Year Award, and Maxwell Award. At the beginning of the month, he was named First-Team All-America by The Sporting News. When it comes to the Johnny Unitas award, the Longhorns have had success in the past. Last season, Quinn Ewers was named a Top 10 finalist for the award. The last Longhorns quarterback to win it was Colt McCoy in 2009. If Manning can meet his high expectations, then he could join McCoy as the only Longhorns QB to take home the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award when the winner is named in December.
