Police have detained an online trader after a video of a road rage incident that allegedly showed him reversing his four-wheel drive vehicle into a car three times went viral on social media.
Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat confirmed the police have opened an investigation into the incident.
"We have arrested a 50-year-old local male around here on Monday (June 23) evening to assist with the investigation.
The suspect is allegedly involved in an accident with another car and was driving dangerously at Susur 6 along Jalan Tun Razak here," he said on Tuesday (June 24).
ACP Raub added that initial investigation showed that the incident happened at around 3.10pm on Sunday, June 22.
"The incident occurred when a 63-year-old man was driving his car slowly after missing a junction.
The suspect, who was driving behind the victim, decided to drive past the victim in an aggressive manner.
Both the suspect and the victim then got into a heated verbal argument before the suspect decided to get into his vehicle before reversing his four-wheel drive into the victim's car three times before speeding away," he said.
ACP Raub added that the incident caused the victim's car to suffer damage worth more than RM15,000.
He said checks on the suspect found he has seven past cases in his criminal record while a urine test came up negative for drugs.
ACP Raub added that the suspect is under remand for four days to assist with the investigation.
"Police will not compromise against any form of driving recklessly and would take stern action against individuals that put the safety of other road users at risk," he said, adding that those with information should contact the Johor Baru South police hotline at 07-2182323.

KUALA TERENGGANU: A former school principal was sentenced to 107 years in jail by the Sessions Court here today (June 24) after he was found guilty of 13 charges of sexual communication, physical sexual assault and rape of a student. Judge Mohd Zul Zakiquddin Zulkifli sentenced Rosli Abd Rahman, 60, after the defence failed to raise reasonable doubt. Selangor KPDN Disposes Over RM3.5 Mln Worth Of Seized Counterfeit Goods
