14 Indians who went to Russia for jobs ‘missing' claims Congress; paid over ₹31 lakhs to agents
The Congress on Friday claimed that 14 Indians who had travelled to Russia in search of work are now "missing," and urged the government to take up the issue with Moscow and make efforts for their repatriation.
Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring said that out of the missing people, nine are from Uttar Pradesh, three from Punjab, one from Maharashtra and one from Jammu and Kashmir. He made the claims while addressing a press conference in Delhi on Friday, June 27, reported PTI.
The Congress MP further claimed that some people who had gone abroad in search of work, had even paid agents over ₹ 31 lakhs to secure a job, but did not get one. Instead, they were recruited in the Russian army.
"My friend Jagdeep ji told me that his brother, who had gone to Russia with 4 others paid ₹ 31,40,000 to agents but they did not get work... these people were recruited in the army by the Russian government there," said the Congress MP.
Amarinder Singh Raja Warring also claimed that as of December 2023, 126 people went abroad in search of work. They wanted to go to Singapore and Malaysia and Italy, but instead were taken to Moscow.
Out of these 126 people, around 100 people have returned, he said, reported PTI.
Slamming the Central government about the 'missing' Indians, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring posed a series of questions to the Union government, asking if any action had been taken in the incident.

Naveed also referenced the 1980 Mandal Commission, which advocated for OBC reservations but lacked updated caste data. Similarly, the 2011 Socio-Economic and Caste Census was never fully published, drawing criticism from scholars and activists. While critics argue the census might deepen caste divisions, Naveed stressed that a transparent and accurate caste enumeration would promote fair representation, help recalibrate reservation policies, and ensure that affirmative action reaches those who need it most.
