How to access the Battlefield 6 open beta, how to preload, and when it starts
The Battlefield 6 open beta is imminent, and for the most part, it really is an open beta. EA is running the playtest for two weekends, but there are a handful of ways to get two days of early access.
If you signed up for Battlefield Labs before July 31, you'll automatically be granted access to the early bird days. There was also a chance to get a beta code via Twitch drops during last week's reveal streams, but that window's closed now.
The only surefire way to get early access at this point is to sign up for EA Play Pro, EA's subscription service that lets you play all its new games on day one for $17 per month. That's an extremely steep price if you're only after those two extra days of BF6 beta, but if you've been meaning to play some other EA games anyway, then the option's there.
How to access and preload the Battlefield 6 beta
Whether you're playing in early access or waiting for the public beta, you'll access the Battlefield 6 open beta the same way. Here are the direct links to the beta on every platform:

On top of the good news that Battlefield 6 won't require the EA App on Steam, you also won't need it to play the open beta. Just head to the BF6 Steam page and look for the "Join the playtest" button. If you're a BF Labs member who played through the EA App, you should probably install the beta there to ensure you don't run into issues.
Preloading is live on all platforms, so there's no reason not to save some time by installing the ~40 GB package. You can even run it early to optimize shaders and tune your graphics settings ahead of time, but there's nothing else to do in the menus until the main event.
Battlefield 6 beta dates
The BF6 beta goes live at the same time on all platforms starting Thursday, August 7. EA has yet to say the exact hour that the beta begins, so we're left to guess it'll be sometime in the morning/early afternoon.
Weekend 1
August 7 - August 8 (Early access)
August 9 - August 10 (Open)
Weekend 2
August 14 - August 17 (Open)
This is purely speculation, but we could see an extra day added to either beta weekend if EA's servers crumble under the weight of BF6's rapidly expanding hype. After all, Battlefield has a long history of launching with connectivity issues, though one would hope Battlefield Studio's extensive Labs playtesting means it's better prepared.
Battlefield 6's full launch is coming on October 10. EA hasn't announced any beta dates beyond the ones listed here, but we'll let you know if they decide to run any more before launch.
All Battlefield 6 beta rewards and how to earn them
You can earn a handful of rewards for participating in the Battlefield 6 beta, which will carry over into the full game when it launches in October. There are two different sets of rewards to earn over the two beta weekends, so you'll have to play during both to earn everything. Presumably, since the first weekend's rewards are primarily based on your account level, you can make progress towards these during the two-day early access period, too.

Rising Star character skin: Reach level 15
Night Terror weapon charm: Reach level 20
Striking Distance weapon package: Get 50 Close Quarter Kills (within 10m) as Assault

All Battlefield 6 Twitch Drops
Alongside the exclusive rewards you can earn by playing during the open beta periods, there are also unique rewards for watching the Battlefield 6 beta over on Twitch. By watching any Drops-enabled streamer during the two open beta weekends (August 9-10 and 14-17), you can unlock these Battlefield 6 Twitch Drops:
Watch for 1 hour: Mimic weapons package
Watch for 2 hours: Landslide soldier skin
Watch for 3 hours: Shattered vehicle skin
Watch for 4 hours: Imperial soldier skin
All you need to do to start earning these beta Twitch Drops is link your EA and Twitch accounts, and then watch creators streaming Battlefield 6 when the beta is active.
Once you've earned a reward, it'll appear in your Drops Inventory. Redeem them here, and you'll be given a code to enter over on the Battlefield code redemption page. You won't be able to access these rewards until the game fully launches in October, so just sit tight for now.

At long last, Marvel's First Family has finally made its debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe now that The Fantastic Four: First Steps has come out on the 2025 movie schedule. Going into Matt Shakman's return to the MCU after helming 2021's WandaVision, I had a feeling we'd be seeing some outrageous comic book action, a fresh and unique visual style, and Galactus trying to do what he does best: eat planets. However, I didn't expect this to be a remarkable conversation on parenting. There's a lot that the movie gets right about parenting and how having a kid fundamentally changes you, and that's especially true when it comes to Reed Richards' journey from scientist and superhero to neurotic father. Let me explain… The Fantastic Four: First Steps Perfectly Captures How Becoming A Parent Fundamentally Changes The Way You Think Similar to how Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm went through a massive physical transformation after being subjected to cosmic rays during a space mission, Sue's giving birth to Franklin radically changed the mental and emotional structure of the core characters' brains. Even before Franklin is born and the Fantastic Four learn the real reason Galactus wants the unborn baby, Reed becomes obsessed with learning everything he can about his child. Will he be healthy? Will he have damage from his parents' changed genetic makeup? What will become of him? It's natural for parents (both before and after birth) to have these thoughts, and it was incredibly powerful to see this explored in a big-budget summer blockbuster of this scale. The Parenting Aspect Made Reed Richards' Arc One Of The Most Fulfilling In The MCU For years, in comics, cartoons, and Marvel movies (at least those outside of the MCU), Reed Richards has always been presented as one of the smartest superheroes of all time. Hell, his nickname is Mister Fantastic. However, in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Reed has a problem that he struggles to solve: parenthood. While Sue Storm, being the nurturing and wise mother and superhero she is, seems to have it figured out fairly quickly, her husband takes a tremendous amount of time on this journey, which is all too accurate. This arc of him going from someone who has always used his brain to figure out a solution to a problem to someone who has to use his heart to save the day is incredible and is one of the most fulfilling in the MCU. Yeah, he does use that fantastic brain of his to help defeat Galactus, but it's that fundamental shift in his way of thinking that brings him there. Also, The Car Seat Gag At The End Is Way Too Accurate Just before the Fantastic Four: First Steps ending, the movie gives us one of the funniest and most accurate gags in the entire MCU when Reed, Ben, and Johnny try to properly install Franklin's car seat in the Fantasticar. I have three kids and have installed car seats more times than I care to remember, but I still messed it up all the time when they were younger. Thank heavens I just have one kid in a booster seat now. The Fantastic Four: First Steps, with its great action, visual style, and lessons about parenting, is a fun theatrical experience. It's campy, it's violent, and it's fun as hell. And then there are the surprises throughout Freaky Tales. With some outrageous cameos, including one that I'm still laughing about days later, pop culture references, and one shocking turn after another, this crazy anthology film is something else! Like The Last Of Us And The Fantastic Four, Pedro Pascal Plays A Father Forced To Make A Grave Decision Pedro Pascal has played some great dads and father figures in recent years, with The Wild Robot, The Fantastic Four: The First Steps, The Last of Us, and The Mandalorian quickly coming to mind. This is the same for Freaky Tales, as the in-demand actor, who had to drop out of another great 2025 horror flick, Weapons, plays a former enforcer who's tasked with making a grave decision after the birth of his first child. Again, I won't give anything away, but his character finds himself in quite a pickle where there's only one, and incredibly violent, way out. I Honestly Don't Know How This Flew Under The Radar When I was writing about all the new 2025 action movies I wanted to see, I made sure to include Freaky Tales, as the premise and cast had me interested to see how it'd all go down. Back then, and even now, I haven't come across anyone else who's watched this movie, and I'm struggling to figure out how it flew under the radar for so long. With Captain Marvel and Masters of the Air's Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck directing, a cast that includes Jay Ellis as NBA legend Sleepy Floyd, Ironheart's Dominique Thorne, Ben Mendelsohn, and the late Angus Cloud, and some of the wildest gore I've seen all year, this checks all the boxes. Maybe now, with the movie streaming on HBO Max, this will change. Don't be like me and wait so long to watch Freaky Tales, because this is one wild-as-hell anthology film you won't want to miss.

The next PS5 exclusive planned for a 2025 release is Lost Soul Aside, which launches August 29, 2025. Then there's Ghost of Yotei, the sequel to Ghost of Tsushima. Those are the two big exclusives for this year, with Saros, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, and Marvel's Wolverine still not having release windows. Upcoming PS5 exclusives include AAA first-party games, as well as Sony's future slate of multiplayer titles, something slightly newer that the publisher seems to be pushing quite hard. Regardless of what kind of games you like to play, there are plenty of exclusives coming to PS5, many of which already have release dates or broad release windows. In terms of upcoming games, the next year or so of PS5 exclusives look set to be an extremely strong lineup. That's before you consider the juggernaut that is Ghost of Yōtei, as well as unannounced games that's sure to follow towards the end of the year. This world is filled with secrets, monsters, and unpredictable events that keep you interested. Beneath the flashy moves, there's depth for players who love to experiment. You can customize loadouts, chain synergistic combos, and strategize with Arena, Kaser's dragon-like companion. Lost Soul Aside launches August 29, 2025 for PS5 and PC, following a delay. Ghost of Yotei Ghost of Yōtei is the latest game from Sucker Punch, and follows Ghost of Tsushima. Protagonist Atsu's journey takes place in 1603, more than 300 years after the events of Ghost of Tsushima. While we don't know how the two are connected, if at all, expect the same mix of stealth and sword-fighting as you make your way across a gorgeous Feudal Japan setting. So far, we've received two trailers, and it's looking very pretty indeed. Ghost of Yōtei will launch October 2, 2025, exclusively for PS5. Saros Saros was revealed during a State of Play event that aired in February 2025. It's the latest from Housemarque, and is being described as a game that builds upon the third-person action systems showcased in Returnal. A key gameplay distinction between Saros and Returnal is permanent resources and progression making every death valuable. After every death you will face a changed world, but in Saros you will be able to choose and permanently upgrade your loadout from an evolving set of weapons and suit upgrades to 'come back stronger' to overcome the challenges you face on Carcosa. Saros will launch on PS5 in 2026. Ballad of Antara Ballad of Antara is an action-RPG with multiple playable characters. These characters possess the power to traverse the two worlds of normalcy and unimaginable. The devs are calling them 'Emissaries'. Each Emissary has their own unique class, gameplay capabilities, and their own enticing, mysterious stories. So far, we have seen a lengthy trailer, which you can check out as part of this blog post. Ballad of Antara is currently slated for release sometime in 2025. At present, it's only confirmed for PS5. Where Winds Meet Where Winds Meet is an epic Wuxia open-world action-adventure RPG game, that was recently confirmed to be launching on PS5. At first, we only knew about a PC release, but after a State of Play event last May, we know it's coming to PlayStation. Marvel's Wolverine Marvel's Wolverine is coming from the folks over at Insomniac, the team responsible for the Spider-Man PS4 and PS5 games. As such, expectations are very high indeed, and because we've not seen much on it so far, things are still very much up in the air. Only a brief cinematic trailer has been revealed so far, showing Logan sitting at a bar after what looks to have been a very bloody brawl. At present, Wolverine is only slated for a PS5 release. Fairgame$ Fairgame$ is a competitive heist game where you join an underground movement to rob the ultra-rich and rebalance the scales. We've not seen any gameplay yet, nor do we have a release window or release date. What we do know is that it'll launch on PS5 and PC. Phantom Blade Zero Phantom Blade Zero was revealed during a PlayStation Showcase event in 2023. It looks set to blend fast-paced action with cinematic quick-time gameplay. There are epic boss battles, and plenty of parrying as you make your way across a fractured land, looking to seek revenge on those that have mortally wounded you. Phantom Blade Zero has been confirmed to be in development for PS5 and PC, and it currently has no release date. Sword of the Sea Sword of the Sea takes place in an abandoned realm where the terrain flows in waves. You'll make use of a traversal vehicle called the Hoversword. The Hoversword controls like a snowboard, skateboard, and hoverboard all in one. Build momentum to achieve great speeds and catch big air as you explore skatepark-like ruins, uncovering an ancient mystery as you go. At present, Sword of the Sea is announced for PS5 and PC, and it'll launch August 19, 2025.. Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet was a surprise reveal that closed out The Game Awards 2024. It's the new game from Naughty Dog, and looks to be a sci-fi epic, with a retro-futuristic vibe. We don't know too much about the game yet, except that it's being developed exclusively for PS5 consoles. From the official announcement blog post: "Intergalactic stars our newest protagonist, Jordan A. Mun, a dangerous bounty hunter who ends up stranded on Sempiria – a distant planet whose communication with the outside universe went dark hundreds of years ago. In fact, anyone who's flown to it hoping to unravel its mysterious past was never heard from again. Jordan will have to use all her skills and wits if she hopes to be the first person in over 600 years to leave its orbit."
