Nitesh Tiwari's 'Ramayana' starring Ranbir Kapoor and Yash becomes India's most expensive film franchise with Rs 1600 crore budget: Report
The upcoming film '
Ramayana
', featuring
Ranbir Kapoor
and Yash, has quickly become one of the most anticipated releases in Indian cinema. The creators recently unveiled an official announcement video showcasing select scenes, which instantly captivated audiences online with its impressive scale and grandeur, leaving fans eagerly awaiting the full experience.
Record-Breaking Budget
As per Bollywood Hungama reports, the 'Ramayana' franchise carries a staggering production budget of Rs 1600 crore. The first installment alone accounts for Rs 900 crore, while Rs 700 crore has been set aside for the sequel. This enormous expenditure positions 'Ramayana' as the most expensive series in the history of Indian cinema. A source revealed that the reason for the reduction in budget for part two is a result of a large investment in asset and world creation for part one, leaving just the action sequences for the second installment.
The characters built and designed alongside the set pieces will continue to be a part of the second installment.
Collaborative Production and Global Ambitions
'Ramayana' is a collaborative production between Namit Malhotra's DNEG, Prime Focus Studios, and Yash's Monster Mind Creations. Instead of treating the budget as separate for each part, the creators consider the entire Rs 1600 crore as a unified investment.

Throwback to when the late Shridevi teased 15 year old Janhvi Kapoor about her broken Hindi
Janhvi Kapoor is the eldest daughter of the late actress, Sridevi , and filmmaker Boney Kapoor . She made her acting debut with the 2018 Shashank Khaitan film 'Dhadak', alongside Ishaan Khatter. Since then she has starred in various movies, turning herself into a promising young talent in the Indian film industry . This 2012 throwback piece is from a time when Janhvi was only 15 and had been invited to a launch event of the People magazine issue featuring her, her mother Sridevi, and her younger sister Khushi on the cover. At the launch event, the media asked Janhvi to say a few words in Hindi. Since she wasn't very comfortable speaking Hindi, she struggled and fumbled a bit in her response, "Hindi mein? I don't... Ji, mujhe abhi pata nahi. Main abhi school mein padhai kar rahi hu aur…' she said. Shridevi took the mic from her hand and teased her daughter. She told the media not to address Janhvi in Hindi. The late actress joked that Janhvi would struggle and fumble and even hilariously imitated her daughter's broken Hindi, making everyone laugh. Janhvi joined in on the laughs and even apologized for not being able to speak Hindi. She has acted in movies like Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl, Roohi, and Lust Stories, speaking Hindi fluently. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it legal? Reliving The Magic Of Filmistan Studios, One Last Time
New Delhi: As the iconic Goregaon studio makes way for luxury towers, we look back at the legends, films, and memories it gave Indian cinema. Another piece of Bollywood history is making way for real estate. Filmistan Studio in Goregaon, established in 1943 and once a powerhouse of Hindi cinema, has been sold to Arkade Developers for Rs 183 crore. The developer plans to launch a premium residential project on the site in 2026, featuring two 50-storey towers with 3, 4, and 5 BHK homes and penthouses. It has a projected Gross Development Value (GDV) of Rs 3,000 crore. YouTube This marks the third iconic film studio in Mumbai to be sold for redevelopment. Earlier, RK Studios in Chembur and Kamal Amrohi's Kamalistan Studios in Jogeshwari were transformed into multi storey buildings. "This place that we could not enter had an arch with Filmistan Studio ' written on it. It's gone," said film historian Amrit Gangar, standing near what was once the main entrance. A Final Glimpse We tried to enter the studio one last time to step inside the space where Hindi cinema once breathed. But the gate, once crowned by the iconic Filmistan Studio arch, was shut. Now private property, we were turned away. Just as we were about to leave, a man living in a house right next to the compound overheard our conversation. When he learned we were working on a story about the studio's past, he invited us in. Inside his modest home, he led us to a back room his bedroom. From the window, we got an unexpected, uninterrupted view into the heart of Filmistan. The same stages where Tumsa Nahin Dekha and Jagriti were shot, the space where countless wedding processions and funeral scenes were filmed was now eerily still. And there it stood, the abandoned temple set, instantly recognisable from so many Bollywood films. Cracked, dusty, and quiet... but unmistakably there. It was like seeing a piece of Indian film history frozen in time, forgotten but still holding on. Where Stories Were Born Filmistan was founded by Sasadhar Mukherjee, grandfather of actors Kajol and Rani Mukerji along with his brother-in-law Ashok Kumar, Gyan Mukherjee, and Rai Bahadur Chunilal, after a split with Bombay Talkies. "The birth of Filmistan is very fascinating. I believe the Nizam of Hyderabad helped fund the land," said Gangar. The studio went on to produce iconic films like Shaheed, Jagriti, and Tumsa Nahin Dekha, and gave music legends like SD Burman and Madan Mohan their big breaks. Even after it stopped producing films in the late '60s, its 7 shooting floors, temple, jail, and village sets remained active for decades
