Itanagar:
Arunachal Pradesh
governor KT Parnaik on Monday presented the prestigious 'Land of Rising Sun' plaque to
Krishna Chowlu
at the Raj Bhavan here.
Chowlu, scientist in-charge of the Botanical Survey of India, Arunachal Pradesh Regional Centre, was conferred the recognition for her discovery and documenting the unique
orchid species
of the state.
The governor lauded Chowlu's tireless efforts and scientific spirit in unveiling the rich floral diversity of the state, especially her remarkable work in identifying rare and exclusive orchid species, an official statement from the Raj Bhavan said.
Highlighting the exceptional significance of the exquisite orchids of the state, he said these vibrant and delicate blooms are not just beautiful but they are living symbols of the state's pristine natural heritage and ecological richness.
Parnaik added that Arunachal holds a special place in India's biodiversity map, with nearly 50 orchid species found nowhere else in the world.
These rare species, he noted, reflect the untouched and pure environment of the region, and their preservation and study are of great value to both scientific research and eco-tourism.
He encouraged scientists and researchers to continue exploring and connecting with nature's bounty, reminding them that such work strengthens our understanding of the environment and opens doors for sustainable development.

Parnaik urged people, especially the youth, to take pride in this natural wealth and see it as a unique opportunity to contribute to
biodiversity conservation
and ecological innovation.
Emphasising the importance of exploring, conserving, and promoting orchids, he urged educational institutions to take the lead in this initiative. "Engaging students in such efforts would not only deepen their understanding of biodiversity but also foster a sense of responsibility and appreciation for the rich natural heritage of their region," he said.
Chowlu added that there are 650 species of orchids in the state, which is the highest in India. Fifty orchids are exclusively found in Arunachal Pradesh.
A specialist in angiosperm taxonomy with a focus on the orchidaceae family, she is renowned for her contributions to plant discovery in the state. She discovered Impatiens dorjeekhanduii in Tawang (2017), named in honour of former CM Dorjee Khandu, and more recently identified a unique leafless orchid, Gastrodia lohitensis, in Lohit district (2024), which survives without sunlight.
On the occasion, Chowlu presented her book, Orchids of Arunachal Pradesh, to the governor.

Surat airport 2047 master plan envisions 2.25cr flyers a year
1 2 3 Surat: Once named the fastest-growing city in the world for the 2019–2035 period by a 2018 Oxford Economics report, and backed by the government's Surat Economic Region plans, a major lead in aviation infrastructure is planned for Surat. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has unveiled its projections for Surat International Airport under the Surat Airport Master Plan – 2047, part of the Prime Minister's Viksit Bharat 2047 vision. According to the plan, the airport is expected to handle 2.25 crore passengers annually by 2047, with capacity to manage 45 flights per hour. Terminal infrastructure will be greatly expanded, growing from the current 25,420 square metres to 4 lakh square metres in 2047. The terminals will be equipped to handle 4.5 crore passengers annually, a tenfold increase from the current capacity of 41 lakh. Interestingly, the runway length will remain unchanged at 2,906 metres, with no expansion recommended. All development will occur within the existing 772-acre footprint of the airport. The new master plan supersedes the earlier 2035 version. "With the eighth largest population in India, Surat has full potential for air traffic growth. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Ultra Lux 4BHK homes at 7 Mahalaxmi from 10.81 Cr* 7 Mahalaxmi, Runwal Group Enquire Now Undo All businesses in the city are seeing growth. According to the Oxford Economics report, Surat will be the fastest-growing city in the world between 2019–35. It will have more people and businesses coming and with demand for flights to destinations in India and abroad, we believe flyer numbers will grow significantly," said an airport official. AAI sources revealed plans for a new apron dedicated to general aviation, along with residential and commercial complexes within the airport premises. The number of aircraft parking bays will increase from 18 to 64 by 2047, with 12 additional spaces for smaller aircraft and non-scheduled operations. "We have planned a separate space for a low-cost terminal, from where non-scheduled and low-cost small aircraft will fly," said an official. Terminal expansion will occur in three phases, culminating in four terminal buildings by 2047. Initially, two new terminals will be constructed. In the final phase, the existing terminal will be demolished and replaced by two new buildings. Peak hourly passenger capacity will rise from 3,000 to 20,000, and parking facilities will be expanded to accommodate 10,000 cars, up from the current 500. "Space has been allotted for commercial development where a passenger facilitation centre and shopping complex can come up. Passengers will be able to get guest rooms. There can be a small medical facility. Shops can also be accommodated," an official said. Passenger growth projections are based on the 2019–20 baseline, when 15.15 lakh passengers travelled through the airport. In 2024–25, the number rose to 17.24 lakh, indicating steady growth.

200cr Rampur interchange project to better NH-33 traffic
1 2 Ranchi: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) would construct four-lane interchange at Rampur along the Tata–Ranchi NH-33 corridor. The Rs 200crore project, including two grade-separated interchanges, a 1-km tunnel, and a four-lane flyover, aims to ease traffic congestion and boost regional and inter-state connectivity. Tender has been awarded and verification of credentials is expected to be completed within 90 days. Once completed, the project will enhance vehicle movement across the busy corridor that connects the mining zones of Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh to ports in West Bengal and Odisha. The two interchanges, Interchange-1 of 2.1 km (Ranchi-Hazaribagh junction) and Interchange-2 of 1.17 km (Ranchi-Jamshedpur junction), will be built at high-traffic intersections where multiple national and state highways converge. At Interchange-1, four key roads meet: NH-33 towards Hazaribagh, NH-33 towards Jamshedpur, Hazaribagh Road to Ranchi, and Ranchi Ring Road to Kanke. At Interchange-2, another four roads converge: NH-33 to Hazaribagh via Neori Chowk, NH-33 to Jamshedpur, Jamshedpur Road to Ranchi, and Ranchi Ring Road to Tupudana. "Considering the traffic pressure and strategic importance of these junctions for mineral movement and national logistics, the existing at-grade intersections are no longer sustainable. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 15 Most Beautiful Female Athletes in the World Learn More Undo The new interchanges, including a tunnel and flyover, will ensure uninterrupted high-speed connectivity," said NHAI Regional Officer M.T. Attarde. The 1.240 km tunnel will connect Tata to Hazaribagh, offering a seamless route through hilly terrain, while the four-lane flyover at Vikash Chowk will become the first such grade-separated structure in the state. Once complete, the project is expected to reduce travel time, decongest the Ranchi outskirts, and enhance road safety along NH-33, which is a vital economic corridor in eastern India.
