How NFL experts graded the Baltimore Ravens' 2025 draft class

Yahoo27-04-2025

The 2025 NFL draft is over, and the Ravens did what they always do: navigated the board and came away with a deep and versatile class. Eric DeCosta added two elite defenders with their first two picks, solid depth at the offensive line, and the team's first kicker in the 30-year history of the Ravens franchise.
Overall, DeCosta used all 11 picks and double-dipped at the cornerback and offensive tackle, ensuring a ton of depth at multiple positions.

Round 7, No. 243: Garrett Dellinger, G, LSU (No. 231)
With all eyes on the undrafted free agent class and rookie minicamp, we're looking at the expert's grades for a versatile draft class.
Mel Kiper gave Baltimore a B+ for their haul.
'The Ravens didn't make any in-draft trades last year; they had made only eight over the prior five drafts and traded down twice this year. They let the board come to them and got some good prospects,".
Chad Reuter gave the Ravens an A.
The Ravens are perennial contenders because they let the draft board come to them. Starks will be a playmaker no matter where he lines up. Green was still available late in Round 2 because of off-field concerns, but he has a chance to provide a lot of value off the edge. Jones could be a solid starter at guard or tackle in time.
Pro Football Focus: A
'The Ravens let the board fall to them and take the best available player on the PFF Big Board. 'Starks brings high-level football intelligence and great anticipation to make plays on the ball in coverage.'
Sports Illustrated: B
'Jones is a value pick on the offensive line, but whether he sticks at tackle or kicks inside remains to be seen.'
USA Today: B
'The Ravens have significant issues here currently with K Justin Tucker (who they are apparently in the process of replacing with sixth-rounder Tyler Loop) and in their past — yet chose a guy with multiple sexual assault allegations in his past (Green has denied both),' he writes. 'Baltimore is a more talented football team today than it was a week ago, but at what cost?'
DeCosta 'is one of the savviest decision-makers in football, routinely allowing the draft to come to him.'

Would any NFL team hire Bill Belichick? One possibility stands out.

When the Patriots fired Bill Belichick, it seemed inevitable that he'd land another NFL head-coaching job. The vibe has since shifted from inevitability to impossibility. But there's still one team to watch, in our view. It came up during Wednesday's PFT Live, when Simms and I were identifying coaches that need to do more than make the playoffs in 2025. Although Todd Bowles has won the NFC South in each of his three seasons as Tampa Bay's head coach, the Buccaneers have a unique history, to say the least, when it comes to the coaching position. In 2009, they abruptly dumped Jon Gruden for Raheem Morris. Three years later, they hired Greg Schiano. They surprisingly fired Lovie Smith in 2016, apparently in order to avoid losing offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter to another team. And some still believe that Tom Brady's unretirement in 2022 (after his path to Miami was blocked) was conditioned on Bruce Arians being nudged into retirement. Last year, Belichick consigliere Michael Lombardi was spreading a false rumor that Bowles may retire after the season. (Bowles quickly shut that down.) Which sparked speculation that Belichick was eyeballing the Buccaneers. So why would Lombardi be trying to speak a vacancy into existence? Maybe because that's one of the jobs Belichick would want. Even with all of the craziness that has happened of late, the Bucs can't be ruled out as a potential destination for Belichick. Again, they hired Greg Schiano. Much of it depends on what the Bucs do (or don't do) in 2025, and what the Tar Heels do (or don't do) in 2025. Still, with Belichick's buyout down to $1 million as of last Sunday, let's not assume no one at the NFL level will want Belichick. The Bucs have the talent; if ownership decides that an excellent game-day coach could get them back to the top of the mountain, it's not as nutty as it may seem. We're not saying Bowles shouldn't keep the job. We're jus trying to stay ahead of the curve. And the curve could indeed bend in unexpected ways in Tampa. Because it has before. More than once.

Ravens in "introductory stage" of Lamar Jackson extension talks

The Ravens signed running back Derrick Henry to a contract extension earlier this offseason, they announced a new deal with wide receiver Rashod Bateman on Thursday and they may have some more news coming. Head coach John Harbaugh said in March that the team had internal conversations about an extension for quarterback Lamar Jackson and those conversations have now moved outside the building. That was the word from General Manager Eric DeCosta during an appearance on the BMore Baseball Podcast. DeCosta said that they are early in those discussions. 'We've had some conversations before the draft, after the draft, in person last week,' DeCosta said, via the team's website. 'I think we're in the introductory sort of stage of looking at what an extension might look like.' Jackson signed a five-year deal with the team in 2023, but has since fallen to 10th among the league's quarterbacks in average annual salary due to other extensions. His cap number is also set to move over $74 million next season, which gives the Ravens another reason to work out another new deal with the two-time MVP.

The team has rewarded him for his efforts with a three-year extension, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The 25-year-old signed a two-year pact during the 2024 NFL offseason that paid him an average of just over $6.4 million in average annual value (AAV) and tethered him to the team through the 2026 season. Bateman's new deal will nearly double his AAV while ensuring he will continue to work as Baltimore's No. 2 receiver across from Zay Flowers. Bateman played in all 17 regular-season games for the Ravens last season and recorded career-best marks in receiving yards (756) and receiving touchdowns (9). He served as a complimentary weapon in Baltimore's offense, which averaged the third-most points per game league-wide (30.1).
