R Ashwin Breaks Silence On 'Fake' India-Pakistan Asia Cup Quote: "Shame On..."
As soon as the schedule was out, a statement from Ashwin went viral on social media, where he had called out the BCCI for going ahead with the match against Pakistan. The statement mentioned Ashwin as saying that the World Championship of Legends match between India and Pakistan was cancelled only because the lesser amount of money was invested.
"Small money is involved so World Championship of Legends got cancelled. But India is still playing against Pakistan in Asia Cup and BCCI hasn't cancelled it. Because the amount of money decides the level of patriotism," the viral post quoted Ashwin as saying.
Don't associate me with this fake news.
Shame on those who trigger all this https://t.co/9IlYcvYhwx

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Ashwin reshared the post and wrote, "Don't associate me with this fake news. Shame on those who trigger all this."
For the unversed, India Champions, led by Yuvraj Singh, refused to play their match against Pakistan Champions as a protest against the Pahalgam terror attack in April this year. The likes of Harbhajan Singh, Yusuf Pathan, and Shikhar Dhawan took a strong stand and boycotted the game.
Meanwhile, former India captain Sourav Ganguly on Sunday said he has no issues with India being placed in the same group as Pakistan in the upcoming Asia Cup, asserting that while terrorism must end, sport must continue.
"I'm okay with the schedule. Sport must continue. What happened in Pahalgam should never happen, but we can't let that stop the game. Terrorism must end. India has taken a firm stand against it, it's in the past now. Sport must go on," Ganguly told PTI.

Hardeep strikes gold
Hailing from 2017 Miss World Manushi Chillar's village Bamnoli in Jhajjar district of Haryana, teenager Hardeep was super proud after winning the Greco Roman 110kg World under-17 crown in Athens and putting his village on the global map once again. The 16-year-old won the heaviest weight class Greco Roman gold medal for India at the under-17 level. Vinod Kumar (45kg, 1980), Pappu Yadav (51kg, 1992) and Suraj (55kg, 2022) were the previous champions. 'I am very happy to have achieved this,' a shy Hardeep told The Hindu. Hardeep, a reigning Asian under-17 champion, defeated Kazakhstan's Baktur Sovetkhan 2-0, Poland's Mateusz Tomelka 4-2, Ukraine's Anatolii Novachenko 9-0 and Turkey's Emrullah Capkan 4-2 to reach the final. He rallied to beat Iranian Yazdan Reza Delrouz 3-3 via criteria in the summit clash to secure the lone Greco Roman medal for India. 'Even though he trains in freestyle and Greco Roman, Hardeep's heavy upper body helps him in Greco Roman. One who never gives up, he fought some tough bouts. The final one was the toughest. He has a bright future,' said national team coach Ajay Singh. Hardeep, who lost his parents at an early age, kept up his family tradition to take to wrestling and honed his skills under coach Dharmender Dalal at the Hind Kesari Sonu Akhada in Bahadurgarh. 'Without any sponsorship, we try our best to support him so that he can make the country proud,' said Hardeep's uncle Jasveer.

Kuldeep Yadav To Be Snubbed For 5th Test Too? Shubman Gill's 'Jadeja, Sundar No-Brainer' Comment Reveals Strategy
Will Kuldeep Yadav play the India vs England 5th Test or will he be snubbed again? That's the big question as India get down to action in the series-decider starting on Thursday. Ahead of the fifth Test against England at The Oval, Indian skipper Shubman Gill spoke on the availability of pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and the possibility of handing the debut Test cap to left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh. While he directly did not say anything on Kuldeep Yadav missing or playing the fifth Test, this is what Shubman Gill said when asked: "First look of the wicket and you are saying you will decide (the playing XI) later. But England have not gone ahead with specialist spinner Liam Dawson in this game. Are India going to think on those lines?" Gill replied: "We are going to decide our playing XI later in the evening. England haven't gone with a frontline spinner. Jacob Bethell and Joe Root - I think they are going to have their spinning options with them. Luckily for us, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar have done such a good job with the ball and the bat. On their front, it's a no-brainer for us," he said. He never mentioned the specialist spinner's role. Going by his statement, it can be safely assumed that India, till Wednesday evening, was not thinking about a specialist spinner in the playing XI. Team India, motivated on a psychological front following a hard-fought draw at Old Trafford, will be aiming to level the series when the final Test kickstart from Thursday. One of the key talking points ahead of the Test is Bumrah's availability, who was confirmed to be playing three Tests out of five ahead of the series. During the Manchester Test, he produced his most expensive Test figures of 2/112 and had struggles with his fitness too. Speaking about Bumrah's availability ahead of the game in a presser, Gill said, "We are going to take a decision tomorrow. The wicket looks pretty green, so we will see how it turns out." So far in the series, Bumrah has been the second-highest wicket-taker and India's top bowler with 14 scalps at an average of over 26, with two five-wicket hauls to his name. Gill also said that the call on Arshdeep, who is already India's top T20I wicket-taker, will be taken later in the evening. "He is definitely being asked to get ready. Like I said, we are going to make a decision later this evening. I will go and have a look at the wicket. I have not had a chance to look at the wicket. See how the weather is going to be in the next five days and then make a decision," he added. Arshdeep has experience playing in England, considering his past exploits in the County Championship. After a 17-wicket campaign in the IPL 2023, he signed for Kent and scalped 13 wickets from five matches. In 21 first-class games, Arshdeep has taken 66 wickets at an average of 30.37, with best figures of 6/40 and two fifers in 37 innings. Gill said that the series has been a "great learning curve" for him as a captain, and the scoreline is not a true reflection of how well India has played. "I think every match that we have played, it was very difficult to decide which team was going to win after four days of cricket. If we are able to do that for every match, for four matches, coming outside of India with a relatively young team, I think it is going to be a big achievement for us if we are able to level the series," he said

Shubman Gill refuses to rule out Jasprit Bumrah for Oval finale, but Arshdeep Singh 'asked to get ready'
India captain Shubman Gill, on Wednesday, refused to rule out pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah for the fifth and final Test match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series against England. However, he revealed that Arshdeep Singh, who was ruled out of selection for the fourth Test in Manchester, has been asked to get ready for his potential debut at The Oval in London. India's captain Shubman Gill and Jasprit Bumrah at the Old Trafford Cricket Ground, in Manchester(PTI) Bumrah has been India's standout bowler in the series, picking up 14 wickets in five innings at an average of 26, including two five-wicket hauls. However, the team management has been carefully managing his workload. So far, the pacer has bowled 119.4 overs in the series — the third-most by an Indian bowler after Mohammed Siraj (139) and Ravindra Jadeja (136.1). When the Indian squad was announced in May, the selectors made it clear that Bumrah would not feature in more than three Tests during the England tour — a decision made in consultation with the BCCI medical team. The 31-year-old has already fulfilled that condition. After playing the opener in Leeds, he was rested for the second Test before returning at Lord's. While it was initially expected that he would sit out the fourth Test, injuries to Arshdeep and Akash Deep forced the team to retain him in the XI. Bumrah hasn't bowled since the fourth morning in Manchester and was subsequently given a three-day rest. Now, with the series on the line and India eyeing a 2–2 draw at The Oval, the management may be tempted to revisit their earlier stance. Asked directly about Bumrah's availability for the finale, captain Gill offered no confirmation. 'We will take a decision tomorrow, the wicket looks very green. So let's see,' he said at the pre-match press conference, keeping the suspense alive. 'Arshdeep asked to get ready' Gill further revealed that Arshdeep has been asked to be ready for a potential Test debut in London. The left-arm pacer was unavailable for selection in the fourth Test at Manchester after sustaining a hand injury during training, which required stitches. The captain also noted that India are comfortable relying on their two spin options — Jadeja and Washington Sundar — in contrast to England, who will go into the final Test without a frontline spinner. "Arshdeep Singh has been asked to get ready, but we will take a call on the playing XI after looking at the pitch, by this evening. England haven't picked a frontline spinner we have Jadeja and Washi to do the job," Gill added. India's combination for the fifth Test remains uncertain. The batting line-up will see just one forced change — Dhruv Jurel replacing the injured Rishabh Pant — followed by the all-rounders, Jadeja and Sundar. The real headache lies in the bowling department. Mohammed Siraj is the only confirmed pick, while Anshul Kamboj, who had an underwhelming debut in Manchester, is likely to be dropped. That leaves Bumrah, Akash, Arshdeep, and Prasidh Krishna competing for the remaining two pace slots. Another dilemma will be whether to retain Shardul Thakur — who has had a quiet tour so far — bring in an additional fast bowler, or go with an attacking spin option like Kuldeep Yadav. The fifth and final Test at The Oval begins on Thursday. India have won just two of their 15 Tests at the venue — the first in 1971 and the second in 2021.
