R Ashwin Breaks Silence On 'Fake' India-Pakistan Asia Cup Quote: "Shame On..."
As soon as the schedule was out, a statement from Ashwin went viral on social media, where he had called out the BCCI for going ahead with the match against Pakistan. The statement mentioned Ashwin as saying that the World Championship of Legends match between India and Pakistan was cancelled only because the lesser amount of money was invested.
"Small money is involved so World Championship of Legends got cancelled. But India is still playing against Pakistan in Asia Cup and BCCI hasn't cancelled it. Because the amount of money decides the level of patriotism," the viral post quoted Ashwin as saying.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Ashwin reshared the post and wrote, "Don't associate me with this fake news. Shame on those who trigger all this."
For the unversed, India Champions, led by Yuvraj Singh, refused to play their match against Pakistan Champions as a protest against the Pahalgam terror attack in April this year. The likes of Harbhajan Singh, Yusuf Pathan, and Shikhar Dhawan took a strong stand and boycotted the game.
Meanwhile, former India captain Sourav Ganguly on Sunday said he has no issues with India being placed in the same group as Pakistan in the upcoming Asia Cup, asserting that while terrorism must end, sport must continue.
"I'm okay with the schedule. Sport must continue. What happened in Pahalgam should never happen, but we can't let that stop the game. Terrorism must end. India has taken a firm stand against it, it's in the past now. Sport must go on," Ganguly told PTI.

Will Kuldeep Yadav play the India vs England 5th Test or will he be snubbed again? That's the big question as India get down to action in the series-decider starting on Thursday. Ahead of the fifth Test against England at The Oval, Indian skipper Shubman Gill spoke on the availability of pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and the possibility of handing the debut Test cap to left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh. While he directly did not say anything on Kuldeep Yadav missing or playing the fifth Test, this is what Shubman Gill said when asked: "First look of the wicket and you are saying you will decide (the playing XI) later. But England have not gone ahead with specialist spinner Liam Dawson in this game. Are India going to think on those lines?" Gill replied: "We are going to decide our playing XI later in the evening. England haven't gone with a frontline spinner. Jacob Bethell and Joe Root - I think they are going to have their spinning options with them. Luckily for us, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar have done such a good job with the ball and the bat. On their front, it's a no-brainer for us," he said. Shubman Gill refuses to rule out Jasprit Bumrah for Oval finale, but Arshdeep Singh 'asked to get ready'
India captain Shubman Gill, on Wednesday, refused to rule out pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah for the fifth and final Test match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series against England. However, he revealed that Arshdeep Singh, who was ruled out of selection for the fourth Test in Manchester, has been asked to get ready for his potential debut at The Oval in London. However, the team management has been carefully managing his workload. So far, the pacer has bowled 119.4 overs in the series — the third-most by an Indian bowler after Mohammed Siraj (139) and Ravindra Jadeja (136.1). When the Indian squad was announced in May, the selectors made it clear that Bumrah would not feature in more than three Tests during the England tour — a decision made in consultation with the BCCI medical team. The 31-year-old has already fulfilled that condition. After playing the opener in Leeds, he was rested for the second Test before returning at Lord's.
