How to spend a Saturday like Dickie
While my Saturdays are often peppered with Zoom calls and interviews ... and my show on smoothfm goes from 10am till 1pm ... after that, it's 'tools down'.
I like to clear the decks ... sorting the pile of paperwork on the kitchen bench and going through my backlog of emails. To me, Saturday is for recharging and setting myself up for the week ahead.
I also love pottering around the house. I enjoy tidying and fixing things, and doing all those little chores I've been meaning to do but find myself putting off. I love going out into the garden, talking to the plants, checking on the geraniums and seeing if the cockatoos are leaving the rosemary bush alone. I find wandering around, watering the plants and checking on things very relaxing.
Of course ... being an ol' muso at heart ... I love nothing more than messing around on the piano, trying to learn an obscure chord on a guitar, playing an arpeggio on my violin or sitting behind my drum kit for a tune or two.
In winter, a 5- star Saturday afternoon is spent at home in front of the fire, watching a new series or a bit of footy, and we enjoy having friends and family over. If it's summertime, the front door's always open, friends and family drift in — the pool and barbie are there for the taking. The house is named Watermusic ... we have lots of water ... and there is always music playing throughout the house and around the property.

I'm never happier than when my family is here. I close the front door and it just does something to my psyche ... all the problems of the world just drift away. I treasure Saturdays with the family more than anything.
I don't have to be asked twice to do a round of my 'world-famous' bruschetta. I'm sure my family still call it that to humour me, but I find cooking really helps to clear my mind ... when you're focused on not drizzling too much oil on the toast, you forget about so many other things.

Jessica Mauboy: Aussie singer reveals intimate details of sex life with husband after birth of her baby girl
Aussie songstress Jessica Mauboy welcomed the arrival of her baby girl Mia in January, but the new mother has recently admitted that her sex life has not taken a hit. If anything, she told Kyle & Jackie on Thursday that her desire to get intimate with husband Themeli Magripilis has gone into overdrive. 'I've been quite the opposite,' she told the shock-jocks. 'My ovaries are like, 'Hey girl, you want another one?'' With the radio hosts in stitches, the mother added: 'I'm like, 'well damn, I just gave birth!'' Each parents themselves, Kylie & Jackie O empathised with the mother, who begged her overactive sexual organs to slow down. 'I love that!' Kyle remarked. 'Give mumma time to recover before another one.' 'Please.... give this body.... a moment,' Mauboy joked. The 36-year-old and her husband — who is of Greek heritage — met at a nightclub in Darwin when both were 18. Engaged in 2019, the pair tied the knot in the Top End in 2022 surrounded by friends and family. Fast forward to the early stages of parenthood, Mauboy told Stellar in March that she wasn't sure how much of her personality or physical traits she wanted their Mia to inherit. 'I look at her and it's 'whoa!' because I see myself, that little frown,' Mauboy said. 'I'm not sure I want her to have my personality, because it's rough and it's tough … She's constantly changing every day, another little roll, another crease.' In July, the singer told fans she's got 'new music coming', before releasing her single While I Got Time on August 1. She was inducted into the National Indigenous Music Awards Hall of Fame on Saturday.

Environs Kimberley 22nd annual art auction raises funds for artists and nature
Environs Kimberley hosted its 22nd annual art auction on August 2 with more than 79 artworks from Kimberley artists going under the hammer. The highest bid went for Amelia Jajko's sumptuous floral oil-on-linen artwork Ode to Kimberley, while Pauline Sunfly's striking acrylic on canvas Wilkinkarra took home the second highest pledge of the night. Veronica Daniel's acrylic on canvas piece Bush Tucker, and Tom Montgomery's watercolour Walking With Brolgas both fetched the third highest price of the evening. Environs Kimberley executive director Martin Pritchard said the event was more than just a fundraising success, it was a vehicle for the community to come together to celebrate the Kimberley. 'We saw locals, visitors and art collectors across the planet flock to the live auction event in person, and globally via Zoom, on Saturday night raising significant funds to support artists in remote communities, and the conservation work of EK across the Kimberley,' he said. 'We were astounded by the talent and diversity of art from artists across the region — stunning pieces depicting traditional stories, sublime acrylic landscapes, textured handwoven baskets, spectacular photography and mixed media sculptures. 'Thank you to the artists from across the Kimberley who contributed pieces for what was an incredibly positive and tremendously successful art auction event. 'Special thanks to alt-country star Adele Oliver, who performed live for the crowd, with guests reporting her heartfelt songs about country were so beautiful they got goosebumps. 'Thanks also to our ever-popular auctioneer extraordinaire Chris Maher, who entertained with jokes and witty banter while conducting the exciting live auction. 'We are also indebted to our generous local volunteers who supported the event in a myriad of ways such as handing out promotional flyers in town, curating the space, baking for our EK cake stall, working as bid spotters, manning stalls at the event, handling the art treasures, and even helping with the clean-up the next day — everyone's contribution made the event a success.' There are still select pieces available online for bidding until August 10. Hosted on the galabid platform, the online auction features select pieces, some of which were not included in the live event. Proceeds from the auction go to support the artists and art centres, and Environs Kimberley's conservation work.
