Toddler stands on table and tries to touch train at Genki Sushi Tampines, diner slams 'wild monkey' behaviour
A Stomper was appalled by the behaviour of a young child at Genki Sushi in Tampines Mall on July 7.
Stomper Sushi Lover said the incident occurred on July 7 at about 12.30pm during lunch.
"This is an example of why some people should not be allowed to be parents," fumed the Stomper.
"The parents and even grandparents there did not stop the kid from climbing up and jumping on the sofa seats, which caused vibrations at another table's seating as well.
"The toddler was also standing on the table counter with dirty shoes, trying to touch the oncoming sushi train.
"Please learn to control your kid and not let them become like some wild monkeys.
"Horrible dining experience with these people."
The diner told Stomp she had informed a staff member after witnessing the incident.
"The manager got the kid to sit in a baby chair, which is what should have happened from the start," she said.
"I have no idea if the Genki staff did any Dettol wipe-down after this, but I felt it was so uncomfortably dirty with the kid touching trains with sushi and food coming towards me from the kitchen at the far end.
"As you can see, he was also trying to grab the banner on top, which is obviously out of bounds."
In response to a Stomp query, Genki Sushi acknowledged the incident and said the restaurant was extremely busy due to the Youth Day school holiday.
"One of our staff members observed a child standing on the table counter and promptly approached the child's guardian to inform her that, due to hygiene and safety concerns, this behaviour was not allowed," a spokeswoman said.
"The child was then placed in a baby chair. After the customer left, the table area was thoroughly sanitised using our standard disinfectant spray to ensure it was clean and safe for the next customers."
The restaurant added that it is reviewing internal procedures to improve how such situations are managed on the spot and will look into ways to prevent similar incidents in the future.
"Cleanliness and hygiene are top priorities at Genki Sushi," the spokeswoman said.
"We appreciate the opportunity to clarify the situation and remain committed to providing a safe and hygienic dining environment for all our customers."

Resident complains as neighbour turns shoe rack into Shopee collection point

A Bedok resident has lodged a complaint after his neighbour converted a shared corridor space into a parcel collection point, allowing members of the public to pick up Shopee deliveries at all hours. These collections extend late into the night, causing repeated disturbances and raising safety concerns, said the resident. Kelvin Chen, 45, who has lived at Block 522 along Bedok North Avenue 1 for seven years, told Shin Min Daily News that he began having issues with his neighbour last year. "It used to be peaceful. But after one of their children moved out early last year, the situation began to change. They started placing more and more items outside their flat - even plants were placed on both sides of my doorway. I spoke to the lady of the house, and she eventually removed some of them," he said. Collections late into the night According to Mr Chen, the neighbour later repurposed a shoe cabinet outside their unit as a parcel collection station for Shopee deliveries, allowing members of the public to collect their packages. Photos provided by Mr Chen show a four-tier shoe rack that appears to be holding more than 20 parcels. "She mentioned it to me when she first started. As a neighbor, I agreed - as long as it didn't block access to my home or create any obstruction." However, the situation has escalated. Mr Chen said that people come by every day to pick up parcels, with collections extending late into the evening. He eventually reported the issue to the STOMP community platform. He said: "For Shopee parcels collections, it should be personally handed over, not by using a shoe rack as pigeonholes." Netizens weigh in On STOMP's website, some netizens agreed that the neighbour's actions were uncalled for: "My opinion is that this collection point owner is irresponsible to place the Shopee items outside the unit. Anyone can easily take these items and walk away." However, others suggested that the resident's reactions were exaggerated: "Is it really true that collection of parcels creates noise disturbance? Singaporeans complain too much about mundane matters that fall out of line." Others empathised with Mr Chen, acknowledging that the disturbance stems from the daily presence of strangers at his doorstep. Shopee: Temporarily paused operations at collection point In response to STOMP's queries, a Shopee spokesperson said on July 11: "We value the feedback and have temporarily paused operations at the collection point while we review the current set-up. "We are actively engaging the operator to explore improvements aligned with Shopee's guidelines, ensuring that parcel collections are managed safely and with due consideration for neighbouring residents. "Shopee remains committed to upholding responsible practices across all residential collection points." Town council: Items blocking corridor have been removed Addressing the issue of corridor obstructions, the Aljunied-Hougang Town Council confirmed that they have spoken to the resident involved. "The items blocking the corridor have been cleared," said a spokesman, adding that the town council continues to educate residents and conducts regular inspections to maintain cleanliness in common areas and prevent the buildup of clutter.

NParks responds to Bukit Panjang resident who wanted 'justice and kindness' for trapped crows

NParks responds to Bukit Panjang resident who wanted 'justice and kindness' for trapped crows The National Parks Board (NParks) has responded to concerns from a Bukit Panjang resident over a crow trap it set up. Stomper Maddy had spotted birds in the trap at Block 401 Fajar Road on June 23 at about 8.30am, and said they were "suffering". Maddy said she believes the crows "have a right to live in this world", adding: "I hope Stomp can bring justice and kindness to these birds." In response to a Stomp query, Mr How Choon Beng, NParks' group director of wildlife management, explained that house crows (Corvus splendens) are a non-native and invasive species that pose a threat to native biodiversity. He said: "NParks adopts a holistic and science-based approach to managing pest bird species, comprising measures such as food source reduction, habitat modification, and population control. "NParks conducts studies to understand the ecology of the birds, such as their roosting patterns and movements. As part of the measures to manage the crow population in the area, crow nests are regularly removed, and crows are also trapped and removed." The crow trap that the Stomper saw was deployed in mid-June. "The cage used for trapping has a sheltered section to provide shade, and a bowl of water is placed within for the birds," Mr How added. "Crows that have been trapped are also retrieved from the traps daily by the end of the day." To reduce population growth of crows, NParks advises against feeding crows and to ensure food scraps are properly disposed of. Feeding wild animals is an offence under the Wildlife Act. First-time offenders can be fined up to $5,000, and up to $10,000 for subsequent offences. Mr How said NParks monitors feedback on illegal bird feeding and undertakes active enforcement, which includes physical surveillance and the deployment of CCTV cameras at identified feeding hotspots. "Managing the crow population requires the efforts of multiple agencies and town councils," he shared. "This includes reducing human-generated food sources, such as by tackling high-rise littering and managing waste at food establishments and bin centres. "NParks also reaches out to members of the community such as students through outreach talks in schools, and the elderly via the 'Our Avian Neighbours' initiative which aims to raise awareness among the elderly on the negative impacts of bird feeding. "Under this initiative, which was launched in July 2023, NParks collaborates with Active Ageing Centres to organise engagement sessions comprising a talk on common urban birds and the negative impacts of bird feeding, and these messages are emphasised through educational games, and the distribution of collaterals."
