Next-gen postal tech goes live: QR payments, faster service in new rollout
Surat: The department of post is set to roll out its next-generation Advanced Postal Technology (APT) system — an IT solution developed in-house which is designed to modernize and streamline day-to-day postal operations. The initiative aims to enhance service delivery and improve customer experience. To facilitate the transition, postal services at all city post offices will be suspended on Monday, with no transactions processed during the day. Customers have been advised to plan accordingly, as the new system will become operational the following day. The temporary suspension is essential for data migration, system validation and configuration, ensuring a smooth and efficient switchover to the upgraded platform. Once live, the APT system promises a faster, more user-friendly interface, reinforcing the department's push toward smarter, more efficient, and future-ready operations. The APT application has already undergone successful pilot runs in Navsari, Rajkot and Mehsana. Previously dependent on a private IT provider, the department's shift to an in-house system will bring multiple benefits — including streamlined accounting, real-time settlements, improved customer communication and support for QR code-based payments, which was not possible under the old setup. The customer-centric system will also send real-time parcel tracking updates directly to users' phones, marking a significant leap in service transparency and efficiency.
