The Supreme Court had on August 7, held that an in-house inquiry procedure which led to a recommendation to remove Justice Yashwant Varma, an Allahabad High Court judge in whose residential premises burnt currency was found after a fire, has legal sanction.

In a post in Hindi on X, Gandhi said, " ₹ 1 lakh crore jumla - Season 2! Even after 11 years, Modi ji's same old jumlas, same memorized figures."(ANI/AICC) Modi on Friday announced the launch of the scheme which is expected to create 3.5 crore jobs in the next two years. "Today is August 15 and we are launching ₹1 lakh crore scheme for the youth of this country. "Last year, ₹1 lakh crore to 1 crore internships promise,“ this year again ₹1 lakh crore job scheme! What is the truth? On my question in the Parliament, the government admitted - less than 10,000 internships. The stipend is so low that 90% of the youth refused," the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha said. "Modi ji has no new idea left now. The youth will not get employment from this government, they will only get jumlas," Gandhi said. The former Congress president also shared the screenshot of his question in the Lok Sabha last month and the answer by the Minister of State in the Corporate Affairs Ministry Harsh Malhotra. On July 1, 2025, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Modi had approved the scheme aimed at incentivising job creation in the country. Will go to Delhi and speak to high command to know the reason for sacking: Rajanna

K.N. Rajanna, who was recently sacked from the Siddaramaiah-led Cabinet, said on Friday that he will be going to New Delhi after the Assembly session to meet the leaders to know the exact reasons for his removal. He also expressed confidence about coming back as Minister within the current government's tenure. The Madhugiri MLA was Co-operative Minister and removed from the Cabinet on Monday, following directions from the Congress high command. His comments on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's 'vote theft' allegations during the 2024 Lok Sabha polls had not gone down well with the party high command. Noting that the voter lists for the polls in Karnataka were prepared under the Congress government, he had questioned his own party as to why they didn't stop the irregularities then. 'There may be some people in Delhi who are conspiring against me'K.N. Rajanna Speaking to reporters on Friday, he said he was confident that the high command would be convinced about his explanation when he meets them. 'There may be some people in Delhi who are conspiring against me,' he said. He said the Chief Minister himself was not aware that the high command was thinking of sacking. 'Mr. Siddaramaiah had tried to convince the high command, but when they said a decision had been made, he told me the situation. I said fine,' he added. Asked whether his open statements proved costly for him, Mr. Rajanna said, 'I might have spoken certain truth. I will go to Delhi and try to find out,' he added.

On Independence Day, Opp gives call to ‘safeguard democracy' amid ‘vote theft' row

The opposition Congress and NCP (SP), in different programmes on Friday, gave a call to safeguard democracy amid allegations of 'vote theft' by the ruling coalition in the Lok Sabha and Maharashtra Assembly polls. Meanwhile, the ruling NCP said the name of a voter can appear twice due to change of address for some reason, but it is important to ensure the voter in question does not vote twice. 'We participated in the protest in Delhi against the Election Commission of India because the issue was about safeguarding democracy. The elections will continue, but it is utmost important to safeguard democracy,' said NCP (SP) working president and Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule after the flag-hoisting ceremony at the party headquarters. NCP (SP) state president Shashikant Shinde said it was time for all to ponder upon the fight of our freedom fighters. 'Looking at the ongoing onslaught on our democracy, one wonders whether we achieved Independence for this,' Shinde said, adding that it was time for all of us to stand together to protect democracy on this Independence Day. Maharashtra Congress chief Harshvardhan Sapkal, speaking after the flag hoisting at the Congress headquarters Tilak Bhavan, said, 'The powers in government today never participated in the freedom struggle. These people were with the British, they enjoyed pension from the British and never participated in the freedom struggle. The Congress was at the forefront of this struggle and it made huge sacrifices for our Independence.' He added that the 'indiscipline' and 'chaos' prevalent in the country today can be checked only by the Congress. Meanwhile, commenting on the voter revision exercise, NCP state president Sunil Tatkare said the process for revision of voters is continuous. 'There is a possibility that a voter might have his or her name registered twice as he / she changes address for some reason. But it is important to ensure the voter does not vote twice. To ensure that doesn't happen, the revision process takes place,' said Tatkare, when asked about the ongoing allegations of vote theft.
