PM Modi Directs Compilation Of All Legal Records Related To Emergency
PM Modi said that systematic preservation of records can ensure that future generations and researchers will be able to study and understand the period without difficulty.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday directed that all legal records pertaining to the period of Emergency be prepared and preserved for posterity.
While chairing a key meeting of the Prime Ministers' Museum and Library (PMML) Society in New Delhi, PM Modi suggested the development of a comprehensive national database of all museums in the country and said that a compilation of all legal battles relating to the Emergency period may be prepared and preserved in light of the completion of 50 years after the Emergency.
He said that systematic preservation of these records can ensure that future generations and researchers in particular will be able to study and understand the period without difficulty.
The government and the ruling BJP will on June 25 mark 50 years of imposition of Emergency by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
In the meeting, the Prime Minister also put forth a concept of creating a "museum map of India" to provide a unified cultural and informational landscape of museums across the country.
'Underlining the importance of increased use of technology, the prime minister suggested development of a comprehensive national database of all museums in the country, incorporating key metrics such as footfall and quality standards," the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said.
The 47th annual general meeting (AGM) of the society took place at the Teen Murti Bhawan.
The key decision-making body of the PMML is helmed by PM Modi as its president, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh as the vice-president.
Former Union minister Smriti Irani, former principal secretary to the prime minister, Nripendra Mishra, among others, also attended the meeting.
'During the meeting, the prime minister emphasised that museums hold immense significance across the world and have the power to make us experience history. He underlined the need to make continuous efforts to generate public interest in museums and to enhance their prestige in society," the PMO said in a statement.
PM Modi also suggested organising regular workshops for those managing and operating museums, with a focus on capacity building and knowledge sharing.
The Prime Minister highlighted that with the creation of a museum on all prime ministers, "justice has been done to their legacy, including that of the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru. This was not the case before 2014," it said.
Modi said top "influencers" and officials from various embassies should be invited to visit the country's museums to raise awareness about the rich heritage preserved there.He highlighted the importance of preserving and documenting the present systematically.
Other members of the PMML Society shared their suggestions and insights for further enhancement of the museum and the library.
The prime minister also planted a kapur (cinnamomum camphora) tree in the lawns of the Teen Murti House, symbolising growth, heritage and sustainability.
On the eve of the 50th anniversary of the imposition of Emergency in India, BJP's think tank Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee Research Foundation (SPMRF) has organised a mega event at Delhi's Prime Minister Museum and Library.
This strictly by-invitation event will have a huge exhibition, with a series of stands chronicling the Emergency era and the fight against it and the formation of the first non-Congress government of Morarji Desai, News18 has learnt.
The Centre has already instructed all states and Union Territories to undertake a year-long commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Emergency's imposition as 'Constitution Murder Day' with a Mashal yatra launched from Delhi on June 25, which will end at Kartavya Path on March 21, 2026, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in attendance.

CRPF personnel made a mark by their duty, courage, says PM on Raising Day

Kanpur: In his 124th edition of 'Mann Ki Baat' address on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about the historical pride of Bundelkhand forts, saying they are symbols of cultural pride and resistance to foreign invasions. Celebrating Bundelkhand's historical legacy, he said: "These forts are not just bricks and stones, but a symbol of our culture, pride and values." Prime Minister Narendra Modi soaks in spiritual experience on his visit to Gangaikonda Cholapuram
The spirit of bakthi hung in the air and Prime Minister Narendra Modi soaked in the spiritual experience during his more than two-hour visit to the Brihadisvara temple in Gangaikonda Cholapuram on Sunday. Sporting a traditional Tamil attire of white dhoti (veshti) and half-sleeve shirt with an angavastram (upper cloth), Mr. Modi offered prayers at the Shiva temple built by Rajendra Chola I, which is famous for its imposing architecture and exquisite sculptures. He was received with poorna kumbam honours. He performed aarathi to the presiding deity. Devotional renderings by maestro Ilaiyaraaja and a group of Odhuvars were held. The Odhuvars rendered the Thevaram hymns in praise of Lord Shiva, Thodudaiya Seviyan, Pithaa Piraisoodi Perumaney, and Muthaitharu Pathith Thirunagai from the Thirupugazh in praise of Lord Murugan. This was followed by the performance of the troupe led by Mr. Ilaiyaraaja. Singer Madhu Balakrishnan rendered the Om Sivahom. The maestro with his mesmerising voice rendered the Namah Shivaya Vaazhga Naadhanthaal Vaazhga and Poovar Senni Mannan of Saint Manickavasagar. The performances drew standing ovations from the Prime Minister. Moved by the spiritual atmosphere, Mr. Modi acknowledged it while speaking at the valedictory of the Aadi Thiruvathirai festival at the temple complex. Greeting the audience with 'Vanakkam Cholamandalam' (salutations to the Chola region), Mr. Modi appreciated the performances of Mr. Ilaiyaraaja and the Odhuvars. He handed over a pot of Ganga water from Kasi to the Sivachariars at the temple. The celebration of Ganga in the land of the Cauvery is also a legacy of the Chola Empire, he observed, and expressed happiness that he had once again brought Ganga water to Tamil Nadu. He viewed a thematic photo exhibition on 'Saiva Siddhanta and Chola Temple Arts', put up by the Union Ministry of Culture. Impressed by the achievements of the Cholas, he urged the people to visit the exhibition without fail. Mr. Modi released a Tamil musical album on Bhagavad Gita brought out by Chinmaya Mission and a publication on Thevaram brought out by Sahitya Akademi. He also held a roadshow on the way to the temple.
