Telangana HC raps police for settling civil disputes against court orders

HYDERABAD: The Telangana high court on Tuesday pulled up the police for "settling" civil disputes despite court injunctions. It orally directed the DGP to ensure the SOPs on duties of cops are displayed at police stations and uploaded on the website for people's benefit. Justice Tadakamalla Vinod Kumar gave the direction while hearing a petition of Pamu Sudharshanam accusing Nagole police of forcing him to settle a civil dispute through registration of criminal cases. He said the police were asking him to pay 55 lakh to real estate agents for settling a dispute over his plot in Bandlaguda. Rachakonda commissioner G Sudheer Babu appeared via virtual mode and Nagole SHO appeared physically to explain their stand on allegations. The court, which prima facie concluded that the plot owner was detained in Nagole police station to settle the matter, directed cops to produce CCTV footage of the day. Telangana factory tragedy: For many, desperate search for their missing kin still continues

A distraught woman at the govt hospital in Patancheru on Tuesday HYDERABAD: Distraught and restless, several families continued their search for their loved ones for the second day at the govt hospital in Patancheru. Young and old relatives were seen rushing from one corner to the other hoping to find some information on their missing kin. Among them was Laxman Mukhiya who had urgently flown in from Patna to look for his brother, Lakshmi Mukhiya. When TOI found him, he was giving his blood sample for DNA testing. "Officials have found a body with two thumbs. That could be my brother. But since the body is completely charred we cannot be sure without a DNA test," said Laxman. Lakshmi was an operator in production unit. The 15-year-old son of M Praveen Kumar, who worked as deputy general manager at the firm, was also seen making his way through the crowd - along with his relatives - to find his father. "We have been going between the accident site and the hospital since Monday evening. But there's no trace of him," said M Srinivas, Kumar's brother-in-law. At the accident site, TOI found G Chinna Rao waiting anxiously for any update on his 28-year-old son, G Venkatesh. "I spoke to my son on Sunday night. When I heard the news on Monday I tried to reach him, but his mobile was switched off. I rushed here from Srikakulam and am waiting for authorities to trace him," said Rao, still in shock. Venkatesh, a senior chemist in the quality assurance wing, was supposed to visit parents on Tuesday. 'Wrong operation done to claim govt funds: Bengal man goes for hernia surgery, doctors remove appendix instead; kin cry foul

The patient alleges the doctor performed the appendectomy to fraudulently claim funds from the Swasthya Sathi health scheme, as hernia surgeries are not covered. KOLKATA: A Sodepur resident has alleged that the doctor had removed his appendix while he was admitted to the hospital for a hernia surgery. Incidentally, the patient and the accused doctor share the same name - Biswajit Das. The patient initially went to the Panihati State General Hospital for his hernia treatment. He was advised by the attending doctor to undergo a surgery at a private nursing home in Sodepur, which he allegedly owns. The doctor assured him that the procedure would be covered under the state-run Swasthya Sathi health scheme. However, hernia surgeries are not reimbursed under the scheme, whereas appendectomies are. Initially, the patient was told that the surgery was successful. "But days later, I began experiencing pain and swelling in the original hernia site in my lower abdomen. A follow-up ultrasound revealed that the hernia was left untreated, while the appendix was removed," the patient said. North 24 Parganas CMHO Samudra Sengupta said a probe had been initiated. "There have been previous complaints against the doctor. If found guilty, strict legal action will be taken," Sengupta told TOI.
