Boots & Brews boot scoots into Irvine

If you weren't able to rope tickets to Stagecoach this year, don't put your cowboy boots away just yet. Another country music festival is making its way to Orange County's backyard, as Boots & Brews comes to Great Park Live in Irvine on April 11.
The premier outdoor concert event brings live country music to venues across California and this year will be the first time the show has boot-scooted to Orange County.
'Boots & Brews was born in Ventura County in 2012,' said Vincenzo Giammanco, chief executive officer at CBF Productions, which produces the event. 'Since then, we now travel and do it at a bunch of different cities. We still do it in Ventura, Morgan Hill, Santa Clarita and now Irvine.'
Country music singer Jake Owen, who has had 10 hits make the No. 1 spot on the US country charts, including 'Beachin'' and 'Barefoot Blue Jean Night' will headline, with Jerrod Niemann and RaeLynn also on the bill. Locally produced beers will be on tap along with cocktails and mocktails and attendees can look forward to a Western-themed vendor market with gear like cowboy boots and cowboy hats. A honky-tonk area will be dedicated to line dancing too, for guests of all abilities.
Giammanco said he has been hoping to bring the festival to Orange County since its inception and was thrilled when the opportunity finally presented itself.
'A lot of times when we produce this show, a majority of our attendees are from the O.C.,' said Giammanco. 'When I found Great Park Live, which is new pop-up amphitheater, it intrigued me and when I went out there and did a tour, I knew it was perfect. You have beautiful grass, a beautiful stage and great weather.'
Great Park Live is a temporary live music venue that opened last summer to replace the FivePoint Amphitheater, which closed in October 2023. Positioned in a corner of the Great Park Sports Complex, the outdoor live entertainment space has served as a summer concert venue for Pacific Symphony concerts and other live events, while the city of Irvine works to develop a more permanent amphitheater facility.
Boots & Brews will be the first big show of the season for Great Park Live and Giammanco hopes it won't be the last time the festival comes to Orange County. He is looking forward to providing a memorable experience for country fans.
'When the headliner hits the stage and the lights go out and the place just goes absolutely nuts, you are seeing people singing the songs and you are seeing couples holding each other and sharing a moment; knowing that we helped create the atmosphere for those moments they'll remember for the rest of their lives is amazing.'
Tickets for Boots & Brews start at $59.99 for general admission and $149.99 for the VIP Lounge. There are also party packs that offer tickets at a discounted price when you purchase four or more, and private cabana experiences too. For details on tickets visit bootsandbrews.com

Dollywood tops Disney parks in Tripadvisor's best amusement park rankings survey

A new survey revealed which amusement parks in America are the best — andthe top spot may (or may not) surprise you. Tripadvisor released its "Best of the Best Things to Do" report after conducting research across all high-volume reviews and eight million opinions from the Tripadvisor community in the past 12 months. "Get ready to scream, splash, soar through the sky, and escape into your favorite worlds at these winning parks," reads the announcement ranking the amusement and water parks. Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, ranked first on the list, at 4.3 out of 5. The park is co-owned by the iconic Dolly Parton, who grew up around the Smoky Mountains in the Big Bender state. Dollywood has 50 rides spanning over 160 acres, according to its website. "The park has a downhome feel with singalongs and a museum dedicated to Parton's life, plus high-velocity roller coasters and thrill rides," reads Tripadvisor's report. Dollywood also has an art scene with performances, glassblowing showcases and artisans making pottery. One reviewer left five stars, writing, "We had a great time at this theme park." "It was very hot. However, the park offers shaded areas and free ice water!" the person continued. "There were also fans placed around the park. They care about their guests." Dollywood beat out Disney and Universal parks. Coming out in second place was Magic Kingdom Park. Located in Bay Lake, Florida, the park is dubbed "The Most Magical Place on Earth." Magic Kingdom is home to some of the most popular Disney attractions, such as Space Mountain, Jungle Cruise and Cinderella's castle. "There's also a nightly fireworks show, musical parades, and meet and greets with your favorite Disney characters," Tripadvisor notes. In third place is Knoebels Amusement Resort, located in Elysburg, Pennsylvania. The park has been family-owned and operated since 1926. Tripadvisor notes it is America's largest free-admission amuseument park. It has "roller coasters, kid-friendly rides (bumper cars, a haunted mansion), swimming, camping, a mining museum, and even a championship 18-hole golf course." Disney's Hollywood Studios in Bay Lake, Florida, took fourth place. The park has some of Disney's most thrilling rides, such as the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and the Aerosmith-themed Rock 'n' Roller Coaster. Rounding out the top five was the Universal Islands of Adventure in Orlando, Florida. "Universal Islands of Adventure — one of two parks at Universal Orlando — is home to superheroes and magical creatures," notes Tripadvisor. "One of the highlights is The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, where you can ride Hagrid's Motorbike," the report adds. "Don't miss the Velocicoaster, a high-speed coaster."

Travel influencers boost tourism to Taliban-run Afghanistan

Orzala, of RUSI, said that while influencers with Western passports 'roam freely, pose for photos and gain online fame,' those privileges are denied to Afghan women, who are barred from schools, jobs or even walking freely in public without being accompanied by male guardians. There are also moral and ethical dilemmas, she added, because profits from tourism risk indirectly legitimizing and financially sustaining a regime that has institutionalized 'gender apartheid.' As for videos from influencers that show Afghan women smiling in the background, Orzala said, 'This should never be confused with contentment or consent to the current reality.' 'This is not cultural exchange; it's neocolonial tourism dressed up as adventure,' she added. Visitors to Afghanistan are still in the low thousands as the war-torn country tries to rebuild its image under strict Taliban-run Islamic laws and customs. Nearly 9,000 foreigners visited in 2024, while nearly 3,000 visited in the first three months of this year, according to a report from The Associated Press. Along with travel influencers, some tourism companies are creating jaw-dropping videos that have since been reshared by Taliban accounts on social media in a bid to attract more visitors. One outlandish 50-second video made by vlogger Yosaf Aryubi begins with an eerie scene of three people with bags over their heads, presumed to be held hostage by the men standing behind them, who are dressed like the Taliban with rifles slung over their shoulders. 'We have one message for America,' one of the armed men says, before pulling the bag off one of the hostages, only to reveal a grinning tourist who gives a thumbs-up and says, 'Welcome to Afghanistan!' The video then cuts to male tourists diving into scenic lakes and walking through waterfalls, and even holding M4 rifles that are revealed to be replicas. Not every influencer sees Afghanistan in that way. In another video, YouTuber Nolan Saumure, whose channel Seal on Tour has 650,000 subscribers, acknowledges that he only interacted with men during his trip there. In a 35-minute video titled 'Afghanistan Has Too Much Testosterone,' Saumure spins the camera around to show a large crowd of Afghan men swarming him.

Beloved theme park ranked No. 1 in the US — besting even Disney and Universal fun spots: ‘Above-and-beyond reviews'

Move over, Mickey Mouse. Tripadvisor has named the top amusement park in the U.S. — and it's not in Disney or Universal. In its 2025 Travelers' Choice Best of the Best Awards this week, Dollywood was named No. 1 in the Amusement & Water Parks category. Advertisement This isn't the first time Parton's amusement park, which opened to the public in 1986, has landed in the No. 1 spot — according to Knoxville News Sentinel, Dollywood has earned the top spot three times in four years. It's also been named one of the top 25 amusement parks in the world at No. 11 — and it's the only park in North America to make the top 15 on the international list. 5 Dolly Parton at Dollywood in 1993.'This award is humbling,' Dollywood President Eugene Naughton said in a statement to the outlet, 'because it is derived from real reviews left by our actual guests describing their time here at our parks and resorts.' Disney World's Magic Kingdom came in second place, and Knoebels Amusement Resort in Pennsylvania ranked No. 3. The ranking by Tripadvisor is based on 'above-and-beyond reviews and opinions' from the site's community over 12 months, the website said, adding that out of the 8 million listings, fewer than 1% achieve the milestone. 5 The Chasing Rainbows theater at Dollywood. 'We don't provide the best guest experience in the country to try to win these awards. We do it because it is the right thing to do,' he added when speaking to the Daily Mail.
