DMK bloc bound by ideology, says CM Stalin, mocks EPS' ‘sudden love' for Left parties
'Let us protect socialist Cuba! Let us thwart imperialist conspiracies! Let us celebrate the centenary of Fidel Castro,' to mark the commencement of the birth anniversary of Castro, Stalin said both him and the Left knew how to distinguish between criticism stemming from concern and malicious propaganda done intentionally.
Stalin also took a dig at AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami for his 'sudden love' towards communists, referring to the leader of the opposition's recent remarks that the Left and the VCK were being ill-treated in the DMK alliance, while extending a veiled invite to them to join his alliance.
'Respected Palaniswami, everyone doubts whether you read newspapers. Even if you do, you certainly do not read Theekathir (the party mouthpiece of CPM in Tamil Nadu). If you read it, you would not talk like this,' he said with sarcasm.
The CM said, in contrast, he read Theekathir daily and watched opinions expressed by CPM leaders in debates organised by TV channels. 'They do not desist from pointing out (issues) because they are in alliance. And I do not ignore the opinions because they are coming from them,' he said
'This stage symbolises the clarity we have in our principles and the understanding we have in our friendship,' he added.
He hailed the leaders of the Cuban revolution – Castro and Che Guevara – and said they continued to be the guiding lights for revolutionaries across the world.
Referring to the meeting's call for defeating imperialist conspiracies, he said imperialism need not come in the form of wars alone. He said the US planning to impose 50% tariffs on imports from India was also a similar conspiracy.
'The BJP government at the centre must strongly oppose this. Prime Minister Modi must issue a clear public response,' he said.
CPM national general secretary MA Baby highlighted how Cuba is serving humanity despite facing severe hurdles from the US. Juan Carlos Marsan Aguilera, Ambassador of Republic of Cuba, CPM state secretary P Shanmugam, and CPI state secretary R Mutharasan also took part.

Union Home Minister is set to make yet another political visit to Tamil Nadu on August 22 when he would address the BJP's booth committee conference in Tirunelveli. Disclosing this to journalists on Sunday in Chennai, party leader and Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L Murugan said: 'BJP state president Nainar Nagendran will preside over the meeting. Booth agents from five parliamentary constituencies including Kanniyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi and Virudhunagar will participate in the first such conference. Mr. Murugan said from August 18 onwards 38 trains operating across Tamil Nadu will stop at additional railway stations. The Minister said he continuously received petitions from the public demanding that express trains, superfast trains and passenger trains should stop at additional railway stations and he took it to the attention of Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw who accepted the demands of railway passengers and issued necessary orders for extra stoppage. Mr. Murugan said the Tamil Nadu government has been given about ₹10 lakh crore in the last 10 years to implement social welfare schemes including modernization and expansion of national highways, airports and ports. The Union government has given ₹6626 crore for the state's railway projects in 2025-26, while during the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance regime between 2009-2014, this allocation was ₹879 crore, he said. Mr. Murugan added under the Amrit Bharat Railway Stations Scheme, work is being carried out at a fast pace to upgrade 77 railway stations in Tamil Nadu at an estimated cost of ₹2,948 crore. The Minister said work of laying new tracks for a distance of 2,587 km is under way at an estimated cost of ₹33,467 crore, and 10 new railway lines, 3 broad gauge railway lines and 9 double-track lines are being constructed.

CPM Kerala unit lands in controversy after party businessman alleges Govindan's son involved in leaking of his letter to politburo
1 2 3 Kozhikode: The CPM state unit found itself in the centre of a controversy with Chennai-based businessman Muhammed Sharshad B alleging that party secretary M V Govindan's son Shyamjith could be involved in the leak of a private complaint letter he had written to the party politburo against UK-based businessman Rajesh Krishna, who is also associated with the party. In a letter to CPM general secretary M A Baby on Aug 12, Sharshad questioned how the confidential letter came into the possession of Krishna and was used as primary evidence in the defamation case filed by him in the Delhi high court. "I suspect the possible involvement of Shyam, son of M V Govindan in this matter. My concern arises from his reportedly close association with Rajesh Krishna, particularly in connection with financial dealings involving a well-known industrialist from Malabar — a matter which, I understand, was previously settled by Rajesh," Sharshad said. He also urged Baby to launch a thorough inquiry into how this breach of confidentiality occurred. "I also urge you to take appropriate steps to safeguard internal communications and uphold the values of trust and discipline within the party," Sharshad said. In an earlier letter to the politburo, Sharshad alleged that many CPM functionaries were having close contacts with Krishna. Sharshad told reporters in Kannur on Sunday that Govindan ignored the complaint he had raised against Krishna. Sharshad said that while former party state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan kept Krishna away from the party after allegations were lodged against him, Krishna was able to make a strong comeback after Govindan became the party state secretary. When asked by the media whether he had evidence that Shyamjith leaked the letter, Sharshad said that he did not have direct evidence, but the circumstances pointed to that. "Otherwise, there was no reason for leaders in the party state secretariat and state committee to support him. Shyam might have been forced to help him," Sharshad said adding that though he had tried many times to meet Govindan after he bacame party secretary, he could not do it. Sharshad reiterated that Krishna had settled some financial dealings engaged by Shyamjith in connection with a film project. "Govindan would be remaining silent to protect his son. I have told Govindan all matters personally at Apollo hospital in Chennai, but the complaint was ignored. If the stand taken by Balakrishnan had continued, then Krishna would not have become a delegate in the CPM party congress in Madurai. Sharshad alleged that he suspected that the letter written by him to the politburo was presented as evidence along with the defamation complaint lodged by Krishna to embarrass the party. CPM Blasts BJP, State Govt Over Economic Crisis and Public Issues
Gadwal: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has strongly criticized both the BJP-led central government and the Telangana state government for failing to address the growing economic and social challenges faced by the people. Addressing the district committee meeting held at the CPM office in Gadwal on Sunday, CPM State Committee member R. Sriram Naik accused the BJP of being 'incapable of preventing the economic recession' that is worsening across the country. He alleged that unemployment has risen due to lack of job creation, while inflation has spiraled because of soaring prices of essential commodities. Naik said that people's incomes have fallen drastically due to the 'inefficient policies of the BJP,' and economic inequalities are widening as wealth continues to concentrate in a few hands. He also accused the ruling party of diverting public attention from people's issues by 'suppressing democratic rights in Bihar' and allowing irresponsible remarks by constitutional post holders that fuel communal discord. He did not spare the state government either, charging it with cutting welfare schemes under the pretext of a financial deficit. 'The government has failed to provide investment support to farmers, paddy bonuses, scholarships to students, and implement the Rajiv Yuva Vikas program,' he said. He demanded quick compensation for families whose houses collapsed, crops were damaged, or livestock perished in recent rains. District Secretary A. Venkataswamy raised concerns over the plight of cotton seed farmers, claiming that organizers were threatening to restrict purchases to only two quintals. He urged the District Collector to intervene and resolve the issue. The CPM also highlighted the deteriorating health services in the district, pointing out that patients in the district hospital are being directed to private medical shops for medicines, and that Alampur hospital is operating only on a temporary basis. The party demanded permanent doctors, equipment, and medicines for government hospitals. Calling upon its cadre to intensify struggles on local issues, the CPM vowed to fight for farmers, workers, and common people. The meeting was presided over by district committee member Upper Narasimha and attended by leaders including Repalle Devadasu, G. Raju, Paranjyoti, V.V. Narasimha, Maddileti, Narmada, Eidanna, and Ramesh.
