Aditya Chopra Calls Ahaan Panday The 'New Ranveer Singh' at YRF, Reveals Insider

News1824-07-2025
It appears that Yash Raj Films has discovered its latest rising star in Saiyaara debutant Ahaan Panday. According to industry rumours, Aditya Chopra is so impressed by Ahaan's dedication and potential that he is already drawing comparisons to former YRF protégé Ranveer Singh. For the uninitiated, Ranveer made his Bollywood debut with YRF-backed Band Bajaa Baaraat, opposite Anushka Sharma.
Ahaan Panday as Krish Kapoor in Saiyaara has become a rage, and YRF producer Aditya Chopra is mighty impressed with the newcomer he has just launched. As per a Deccan Chronicle report, a close friend of the producer disclosed, 'The project Adi planned with Ahaan was delayed multiple times. Ahaan was contractually bound to Yash Raj Films. Adi offered to release Ahaan from the contract. However, Ahaan chose to stay and said, 'No sir, I will wait as long as it takes,' and he remained committed until Saiyaara materialised."
This level of loyalty has evidently resonated with Chopra. So much so that he is already planning his next project with Ahaan, which is said to be an action-packed film. The friend added, 'Ahaan is contracted for three films with Yash Raj Films. Even before Saiyaara's release, he was getting significant offers from major production houses. After Saiyaara's release, these offers have increased, yet Ahaan remains loyal to YRF."
The source further revealed that Aditya Chopra is referring to Ahaan as the 'new Ranveer Singh" at YRF. A significant comparison, considering the close relationship Chopra once shared with Ranveer, who would reportedly only sign a new film after consulting his mentor.
At a time when films, even starring A-listers, are struggling for a minimum opening day box office score, Saiyaara broke records by earning Rs 20.50 crore on Day 1. Saiyaara has outperformed the first day collections of Murder 2 (Rs 6.95 crore), Aashiqui 2 (Rs 6.10 crore), and Half Girlfriend (Rs 10.30 crore). The film has also surpassed the the collections of Ek Villain (2014), which collected Rs 16 crore on its opening day, by becoming Mohit Suri's biggest opener ever. The film has crossed Rs 100 crore in just four days, surpassing the lifetime collection of Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur's Aashiqui 2.
Saiyaara 2 released on July 18 without any promotions. The strategy resonated largely with people and the film went on to become a success, both commercially and critically.

Community service, security boost, crowd control top clubs' Durga Puja grant spend wish list in Kolkata

Kolkata: Chief minister Mamata Banerjee's announcement of an increased grant of Rs 1.1 lakh to each registered Durga Puja committee in the state has added to the festive fervour. This move has been welcomed by organisers and the larger puja fraternity at a time when artisans are busy giving shape to Durga idols and pandals across the city. The announcement, an increase from last year's Rs 85,000, has sent the city's thousands of puja committees to the table to plan how to spend the money in the most efficient way. While the lights, pandals, and processions will certainly dazzle, organisers are prioritising security, crowd management, and community engagement this year. Part of the funds will also go towards increasing the pay of sanitation workers, electricians, and other essential service providers during the festival. Bhowanipur 75 Palli will spend the grant on promoting the 'Save Drive, Save Life' campaign, besides endorsing Bengal as a tourist destination. "We will put in place healthcare facilities," said Subir Das, secretary of the puja committee. The increased funding will also allow committees to enhance safety measures without compromising on artistic creativity, organisers said. Since Durga Puja was inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2021, the festival has been attracting visitors from around the world. Gourab Biswas of United Club in Baguiati said the organisers would use the funds to increase fire safety measures in the pandal, insure the puja, and distribute clothes, books, and sweets among underprivileged children. "We will also use the funds to sensitise people about malaria and dengue," said Biswas. "We plan to use the funds to hire additional security personnel and grant will help us do that without cutting corners," said an organiser. The increased fund would help organisers of Durga Puja in Mohammad Ali Park to organise the festival efficiently, said Ashok Ojha, Joint Secretary of the Mohammad Ali Park Durga Puja committee. The budget for this Puja had dropped by 75% after after a portion of the park caved in a few years ago.
