Aditya Chopra Calls Ahaan Panday The 'New Ranveer Singh' at YRF, Reveals Insider
It appears that Yash Raj Films has discovered its latest rising star in Saiyaara debutant Ahaan Panday. According to industry rumours, Aditya Chopra is so impressed by Ahaan's dedication and potential that he is already drawing comparisons to former YRF protégé Ranveer Singh. For the uninitiated, Ranveer made his Bollywood debut with YRF-backed Band Bajaa Baaraat, opposite Anushka Sharma. Ahaan Panday as Krish Kapoor in Saiyaara has become a rage, and YRF producer Aditya Chopra is mighty impressed with the newcomer he has just launched. As per a Deccan Chronicle report, a close friend of the producer disclosed, 'The project Adi planned with Ahaan was delayed multiple times. Ahaan was contractually bound to Yash Raj Films. Adi offered to release Ahaan from the contract. However, Ahaan chose to stay and said, 'No sir, I will wait as long as it takes,' and he remained committed until Saiyaara materialised." This level of loyalty has evidently resonated with Chopra. So much so that he is already planning his next project with Ahaan, which is said to be an action-packed film. The friend added, 'Ahaan is contracted for three films with Yash Raj Films. Even before Saiyaara's release, he was getting significant offers from major production houses. After Saiyaara's release, these offers have increased, yet Ahaan remains loyal to YRF." The source further revealed that Aditya Chopra is referring to Ahaan as the 'new Ranveer Singh" at YRF. A significant comparison, considering the close relationship Chopra once shared with Ranveer, who would reportedly only sign a new film after consulting his mentor. At a time when films, even starring A-listers, are struggling for a minimum opening day box office score, Saiyaara broke records by earning Rs 20.50 crore on Day 1. Saiyaara has outperformed the first day collections of Murder 2 (Rs 6.95 crore), Aashiqui 2 (Rs 6.10 crore), and Half Girlfriend (Rs 10.30 crore). The film has also surpassed the the collections of Ek Villain (2014), which collected Rs 16 crore on its opening day, by becoming Mohit Suri's biggest opener ever. The film has crossed Rs 100 crore in just four days, surpassing the lifetime collection of Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur's Aashiqui 2. Saiyaara 2 released on July 18 without any promotions. The strategy resonated largely with people and the film went on to become a success, both commercially and critically.
