Daily Mirror23-06-2025
Prologue: Go Wayback has launched a new playtest for the upcoming survival game, and it's a great opportunity to check out the game ahead of its release. Here's when you can join the fun.
Prologue: Go Wayback is back in action with a new playtest, offering you another opportunity to get a sneak peek at the game before its official release.
Prologue: Go Wayback is vying for the title of the most playtested game in history, and we're not about to stop it. The survival game genre has been crying out for a new top dog, and now that the Dune Awakening beta testing has come and gone, it's evident that there are more opportunities up for grabs by PlayerUnknown Productions, even if many players have been lured in by Fallout 76's new fishing content.

The new game, which drops players into an ever-evolving forest and challenges them to survive against the elements and wilderness across Steam and Epic Games Store, has so far made a positive impression, particularly following its June playtest, demonstrating to players that it's continually improving. There's still plenty of work to be done, however, and PlayerUnknown Productions is working tirelessly to ensure that players receive the best experience as frequently as possible.

A new playtest period is upon us, and there's loads to look forward to – including the chance to play the full game a bit further down the line. But when exactly does the Prologue: Go Wayback playtest begin?
Here's what you need to know about securing early access.
Prologue Go Wayback playtest start time
The July Prologue Go Wayback playtest is scheduled to kick off at 8am PDT / 11am EDT / 4pm BST on Monday, June 23, according to a new post in the PlayerUnknown Productions Discord.
To participate in the playtest, simply head over to the developer's Discord channel and click 'interested' on the playtest event in the Announcements channel. You'll then be notified when playtests are open on a first-come-first-served basis, and provided with a link to sign up.
You also have the option to react with an emoji to the announcement for a chance to test a full build of the game, although there's no information yet on when this opportunity will be available. It's a rather efficient system for such regular playtests, and it could offer you the chance to be part of the history of the next big thing. Don't miss out.

Elden Ring Nightreign's most requested game mode is coming next week

FromSoftware is hoping to maintain momentum for Elden Ring Nightreign by addressing one of the biggest complaints against the game. Elden Ring Nightreign seemed a bit of a risk at first, being a multiplayer-only follow-up to the epic original, but the game has been a major success. After topping the charts in the US for a second month, developer FromSoftware announced Elden Ring Nightreign has surpassed five million copies sold within less than two months. At the same time, the expansion for Elden Ring, Shadow Of The Erdtree has hit over 10 million sales. To celebrate the milestone, FromSoftware has another treat up its sleeve for Nightreign enthusiasts, with a mode which probably should have been included all along. As shown in a new trailer, Elden Ring Nightreign will get 'Duo Expeditions', aka a two-player mode, in a new update set to be released on Wednesday, July 30, 2025. The 1.02 update will also come with quality-of-life improvements to the user interface, including more filtering options for Relics. Elden Ring Nightreign was predominantly designed to be played in groups of three, and while there's the option to play solo, that makes it far more difficult. Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. It's unclear how this Duos mode has been implemented, but hopefully it will be balanced to level the playing field and make two player expeditions not too punishing. Considering FromSoftware has dedicated a trailer to its existence, it suggests a fair amount of work has gone into it. More Trending More fundamentally, it's much easier to coordinate with just one another player instead of two, so this might make Elden Ring Nightreign more accessible in general, especially to those who don't have two other mates who are Elden Ring fans. While Elden Ring Nightreign's popularity has dropped on Steam since it launched in May, it has remained steady over the past few weeks. Over the past 24 hours (via SteamDB), the player peak hit just over 50,000 players, just behind Palworld and Red Dead Redemption 2. FromSoftware's next game will be The Duskbloods, which is set to be released on the Nintendo Switch 2 sometime next year and is also multiplayer-focused. A recent rumour claimed the studio is also working on another project for 2026, which may be tied to the Armored Core franchise. Email gamecentral@ leave a comment below, follow us on Twitter. Resident Evil and Silent Hill inspired indie horror launches at the end of July

Heartworm is a 90s-inspired survival horror game from solo developer Vincent Adinolfi and you can try the demo on Steam now before it launches at the end of the month. Heartworm, a bite-sized survival horror game from solo developer Vincent Adinolfi, is offering a sneak peek with a demo on Steam before its official launch at the end of the month. ‌ Heartworm is a 'lo-fi horror' set to release in late July, in a nostalgic nod to the 90s and draws inspiration from cult classics like Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Project Zero. ‌ It promises all the beloved elements of these games, including door loading screens, a spooky mansion, plenty of puzzles, and a heroine dressed in the quintessential 90s outfit of a t-shirt, cargo shorts, and combat boots. ‌ Players will step into the shoes of Sam, a young woman grappling with her grandfather's death and seeking closure online – a decision that leads her to a mysterious mansion in the mountains rumoured to be home to something supernatural. Despite the glaring warning signs, Sam ventures forth armed only with a camera to fend off the eerie, static-like enemies. Don't anticipate AAA visuals with this one. This is a genuine throwback, though you can adjust the settings for a more contemporary feel; specifically a "modern control scheme with 3rd person over-the-shoulder aiming and optional classic tank controls." You can also choose "pixelation and retro effects" if you're keen to fully embrace that classic 90s horror atmosphere. What's more, multiple endings are on offer, so despite the relatively short four-to-six hour gameplay duration, there's plenty of replay value for completionists or those simply curious to explore every avenue of Sam's journey. But when precisely does Heartworm launch for your nostalgic trip? Here's everything you need to know. Fortnite threatens to NEVER return to iPhones in the UK as game bosses slam ‘bleak' changes

The game has made a comeback to handsets in the US and EU - but a UK return looks 'uncertain' END GAME Fortnite threatens to NEVER return to iPhones in the UK as game bosses slam 'bleak' changes Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) FORTNITE fans have been dealt a huge blow as makers Epic have warned the game may never return to iPhones in the UK. The massively popular online title has been missing from the App Store since 2020 over a dispute on fees between Epic Games and Apple. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 3 Fortnite has been locked in legal battles against Apple and Google Credit: Getty 3 The iOS version of Fortnite has been absent from the App Store since 2020 Credit: Getty Epic wants to launch its own app store, known as the Epic Games Store. So far, it's managed to land in the EU - and Fortnite has returned to iOS in the US too. The firm had hoped to bring the Epic Games Store to the UK in the second half of 2025. But in an update, the gaming giant says its return here is now looking "uncertain". Epic Games blames the competition regulator, the CMA, for "choosing not to prioritize opening the mobile ecosystem to alternative app stores this year". It described the CMA's latest proposals to improve mobile platforms as "bleak". "We can't bring the Epic Games Store to iOS in the UK this year (if ever), and Fortnite's return to iOS in the UK is now uncertain," bosses said. "Four years after concluding that the App Store and Google Play Store are parallel monopolies the CMA has done nothing to allow competing stores." Epic drew upon a recent US court order victory, which it says has benefited other popular apps like Spotify. "Unless Apple and Google are completely blocked from imposing fees and discriminating against apps using out-of-app payment, we can expect years of malicious compliance ahead, and no genuine restoration of market competition," Epic added. I'm a gamer granny & I'm hooked on Fortnite – now I've landed deal with huge global brand The firm said it will introduce the Epic Games Store and Fortnite to other countries, including Brazil and Japan, later this year. Android users are able to access Fortnite via the Epic Games Store but only by downloading it outside of the Google Play Store - a workaround Apple doesn't allow on iOS for security and safety. A spokesperson for the CMA told The Sun: "We are taking action on app distribution – which includes proposing a package of measures that would give UK developers distributing apps on the Play and App Stores a fair deal. "Our approach takes into account developments in other countries to ensure UK consumers and businesses don't fall behind. "Our focus on allowing app developers to steer consumers towards alternatives to the Play and App Store is a good example of this."
