Prue Leith's Great British Bake Off replacement has been revealed
Prue Leith 's replacement on the forthcoming special of Great British Bake Off has been revealed.
The restaurateur, 84, has been a part of the much-loved baking programme since its move from the BBC to Channel 4 in 2017, replacing the expert role formerly held by Mary Berry.
Last year, Leith said she realised Bake Off ' s filming schedule had become too intense when she was forced to sacrifice time off and seeing her family in order to keep up with the show's demands.
Her longtime friend, Caroline Waldegrave OBE, will step in for her. Waldegrave is the former managing director and co-owner of Leiths School of Food and Wine.
She will join co-hosts Noel Fielding, Alison Hammond, and Paul Hollywood for the show's special edition, Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer.
Although Leith was adamant she has not quit the show for good in an interview on This Morning last year, she said she found it difficult to keep up with its challenging schedule.
'These things are filmed back-to-back all the way through summer from April to August so you don't get any time off,' she said. 'I'm getting quite old and there's places I want to see. So I'm not doing this year's.'
She shut down rumours she was quitting, saying: 'It's absolutely not true at all!. What I'm not doing this year is the celebrity one.'
Twenty famous faces will take part in the contest including Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway, property presenter Sarah Beeny, Loose Women panelist Gloria Hunniford, radio host Roman Kemp, and Dinnerladies star Maxine Peake.
Last year, Leith confessed she didn't actually watch the show she presented.
'I just think, 'Oh my God, why do they always have me eating?' Which is a very ugly thing to be doing. And never Paul [Hollywood, her fellow judge].
'I may be imagining this. I think, 'Oh my God, I wish the cameraman wasn't going round the back and taking photographs of my fat places. And my profile is awful.'

EastEnders teen Joel Marshall (Max Murray) is arrested after committing a shocking assault next week. As the BBC soap's dark incel plot gathers pace, the newcomer is questioned by police after inappropriately touching a passenger on the tube. Beth, review: a baffling and muddled sci-fi drama about race and IVF
Beth is Channel 4's first 'digital original drama'. What does this mean? Your guess is as good as mine. But it's being shown as a 45-minute programme on regular television and in 15-minute mini-episodes on YouTube. 'Truly groundbreaking,' says the man from Channel 4. Hmm. The thinking seems to be that young people with chronically short attention spans watch YouTube, and Channel 4 needs young people. In which case, they've made a baffling choice of subject, because does anyone under the age of 30 want to watch a stifling drama about a couple going through IVF? It's billed as a sci-fi thriller, which piques the interest a bit. Think of it as an undercooked episode of Black Mirror. Joe and Molly (Nicholas Pinnock and Abbey Lee) have been trying for a baby. They've had multiple rounds of fertility treatment and multiple miscarriages. Now at the end of the road, they're told by their doctor that there is a chance they could conceive naturally. 'Once you remove the stress and strain, miracles can happen. That's the irony with IVF,' he explains. He also puts his hand on Molly's knee in the consulting room, which we are invited to find a bit suspicious. Is there something going on between those two? When Molly does get pregnant, and the baby arrives – white and bearing no resemblance to Joe – the question hanging in the air is: who's the father? We skip from the labour room to a few years later. You may be wondering where the sci-fi element kicks in, and the answer is about five minutes from the end. The big reveal is bizarre. Until then, though, it is just a little bit odd. Molly's mother becomes unnaturally freaked out by a child's drawing. There is some business with a wall clock. As for the title, I still have no idea who Beth is. Film-maker Uzo Oleh has a background in high-end fashion photography and he has crafted something that looks beautiful, not least because Lee is a model who has appeared on the cover of Vogue. As an entry into television writing and directing, it's a promising start, but too hung up on the visuals. The tone is arty. The casting is a problem, because while the talented Pinnock acts like a regular guy invested with a full range of human emotions, Lee is at an icy remove even in scenes where she's supposed to be full of warmth. At times, as Molly and Joe wear their expensive clothes in a tasteful apartment, a couple supposedly in love but displaying about as much emotional connection as Nick Robinson and Emma Barnett on the Today programme, it reminded me of Eyes Wide Shut. It helps to watch it twice, once you've seen the twist. But when the emphasis is on the convenience of 15-minute instalments, will anybody have the time to do that?

While Sonay Kartal, Jodie Burrage and two-time Wimbledon champ Petra Kvitova were live on TV, that meant that Raducanu and Boulter - second up on Court 1 - were overlooked on BBC Two. And their match against Fang-Hsien Wu and Xinyu Jiang was not available for British tennis fans to watch on either the red button or iPlayer. BBC presenter Isa Guha said: "Unfortunately, we won't be able to show you this match because we're focused on Andy Murray Arena, but we will be bringing you updates throughout the course of the afternoon." A third added: "You just showed a clip of Court 1 where Emma and Katie are starting their match; so why not show the match as a second option or one court on iPlayer and one on BBC Two? The match was Raducanu's second WTA doubles match of her career - and a first win. Quizzed if they would team up again at Wimbledon, the former US Open champion downplayed their ambitions.
