Amy has updated fans as much as possible via her personal Facebook page. Initially, she stated that Ben was dealing with severe pneumonia and that he was still hospitalized.
Now, she has revealed a far more harrowing update, as Ben is currently on sedation and is being prepped to receive a lung transplant.
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - MARCH 02: Robbie Lawler (R) and Ben Askren trade punches during their welterweight bout during UFC 235 at T-Mobile Arena on March 02, 2019 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - MARCH 02: Robbie Lawler (R) and Ben Askren trade punches during their welterweight bout during UFC 235 at T-Mobile Arena on March 02, 2019 in Las Vegas, Nevada."I haven't shared an update because Ben has been in limbo for a while and I was hoping to have him wake up and be the one to decide what to share. I've had some media people contact me that they are going to share an update and I would rather it come from me.
Her post on Facebook reads:
"Ben is still on a ventilator and ecmo to support him while he heals. There are good days and bad, but on the good, they have been able to wean his sedation enough for him to open his eyes and squeeze hands. His body can't handle coming off sedation too much yet. I'm still praying for a miracle with his current lungs, but they are currently starting the evaluation process for lung transplant.
"Please pray for his continued healing, and if transplant is the solution, that he can get on the list quickly and easily. I know transplants are such a blessing and I'm overwhelmed at the thought of him receiving a gift like that. No one would take better care of that gift than Ben.
"Thank you for every message and all of the support. Despite this awful situation, I'm feeling so blessed by the community we're surrounded by. Give your loved ones a hug today and make sure you're prepared situations like this. Ben is the healthiest guy I know and I never could have expected this."
Though the update offers some hope in the form of Ben being weaned off sedation, the aspect of his potentially needing a lung transplant is very worrisome.
The hope is Ben can recover fully, or is able to find a transplant should his lungs stop working due to whatever medical issue he is going through.
The entire MMA community has been shouting out Ben, including his podcast co-host and former UFC champion Daniel Cormier. Cormier co-hosts the "Funky and the Champ" podcast with Ben.

Nut Recall Map Shows Six States With New Warning
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Retailer Meijer is recalling packages of Frederik's brand Dark Chocolate Almonds this week because they could potentially contain cashews, which are not disclosed on the packaging. Newsweek reached out to the company via email Tuesday night for comment. Why It Matters Numerous recalls have been initiated in 2025 due to the potential of damaged products, foodborne illness, contamination and undeclared food allergens. Millions of Americans experience food sensitivities or allergies every year. According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the nine "major" food allergens in the U.S. are eggs, milk, fish, wheat, soybeans, Crustacean shellfish, sesame, tree nuts and peanuts. The FDA also warns that people with an allergy or severe sensitivity to cashew nuts potentially "run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the product." What To Know In the alert, the agency says that the recall includes the dark chocolate-covered almonds sold in stand-up pouches in Meijer stores, with sell by dates of May 7, 2026, and May 28, 2026. Additional 8-count 1.5-ounce multi-pack boxes with a sell by date of May 5, 2026, are also part of the recall, the FDA says. The almonds were sold in the following states: Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky and Wisconsin, according to the agency. The FDA alert also shows a chart listing the affected products, with corresponding UPC code numbers. There have been no reported illnesses related to the recall as of Monday, per the agency. What People Are Saying The FDA in the alert, in part, regarding the company: "About Meijer: Meijer is a privately owned, family-operated retailer that serves customers at more than 500 supercenters, grocery stores, neighborhood markets, and express locations throughout the Midwest." Continuing: "As the pioneer of the one-stop shopping concept, more than 70,000 Meijer team members work hard to deliver a friendly, seamless in-store and online shopping experience featuring an assortment of fresh foods, high-quality apparel, household essentials, and health and wellness products and services. Meijer is consistently recognized as a Great Place to Work and annually donates at least 6 percent of its profit to strengthen its communities. Additional information on the company can be found by visiting Link Disclaimer." What Happens Next Customers who have purchased the recalled chocolate-covered nuts are urged to return the product to a Meijer store for a refund, the FDA says. Those with additional questions may contact Meijer at 800-543-3704 from 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. ET every day. "Customers with questions or concerns about their health are encouraged to contact their primary care provider," the alert also notes.

Former wrestling champion Ben Askren may need lung transplant, wife says
Former Missouri NCAA Division 1 champion wrestler and UFC fighter Ben Askren is being evaluated for a lung transplant, his wife revealed Tuesday, after he was hospitalized with severe pneumonia. File Photo by Bill Greenblatt/UPI | License Photo June 17 (UPI) -- Former UFC fighter and wrestling champion Ben Askren is in the process of being evaluated for a possible lung transplant, his wife revealed Tuesday, as he is "still fighting" for his life. Askren, 40, was hospitalized in critical condition earlier this month in Wisconsin with a severe case of pneumonia, caused by a staph infection. He is currently sedated on a ventilator and ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation). "I haven't shared an update because Ben has been in limbo for a while and I was hoping to have him wake up and be the one to decide what to share," Amy Askren wrote Tuesday on Facebook. "Ben is still on a ventilator and ecmo to support him while he heals. There are good days and bad, but on the good, they have been able to wean his sedation enough for him to open his eyes and squeeze hands," his wife added. "His body can't handle coming off sedation too much yet. I'm still praying for a miracle with his current lungs, but they are currently starting the evaluation process for lung transplant," she said. "I know transplants are such a blessing and I'm overwhelmed at the thought of him receiving a gift like that. No one would take better care of that gift than Ben." Askren retired from MMA in 2019, but returned for a boxing bout vs. Jake Paul in 2021. He was a member of the 2008 U.S. Olympic team and was a two-time NCAA Division I champion in wrestling. "Ben is the healthiest guy I know and I never could have expected this," his wife added. "Please pray for his continued healing, and if transplant is the solution, that he can get on the list quickly and easily." Athletes, wrestlers and the UFC have offered their thoughts, as Askren remains hospitalized, and prayers as he undergoes evaluation for a lung transplant. "We here at the UFC certainly join in sending all our support to Ben, his wife Amy and their kids as they stay strong through this difficult fight."

Tiny kitten's foot is ‘completely backward' — but she's a fighter, shelter says
A kitten has been proving to her rescuers that she's a little spitfire after being brought in with multiple ailments in New York. One of which includes a deformed foot and no backstory. 'At just 12 days old, little Janet arrived at the SPCA Serving Erie County in need of serious TLC,' the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in West Seneca said in a June 17 Facebook post. 'She was battling conjunctivitis, and her back left foot was completely backward — likely from a break or a congenital deformity.' Conjunctivitis is considered 'Cat Pink Eye' and is 'inflammation of the eye's conjunctiva' and usually doesn't last long if treated properly, Pet MD says. 'But Janet is a fighter,' the shelter said. 'Despite it all, this tiny kitten's spirit shines bright. After receiving critical care in our kitten nursery, she's now in a loving foster home, getting the round-the-clock care she needs to heal and grow.' Though the backward foot still presents an obstacle, Janet is on the road to recovery. 'Once she's strong enough, Janet will likely need amputation surgery. For now, she's focused on healing, cuddles, and taking everything one brave step at a time,' the shelter said. For more information, visit the shelter's website and Facebook page. West Seneca is about a 10-mile drive southeast of Buffalo.
