Legendary trainer dies after suffering fractured skull in freak accident
Turner, who celebrated his 78th birthday on Sunday, suffered a severe skull fracture after being struck by a horse at his stables in Sigwells, Somerset.
The former jump jockey, who never regained consciousness, was celebrated for his expertise in training two-year-olds, claiming victory in Doncaster's Brocklesby Condition Stakes, traditionally the opening juvenile race of the season, on six separate occasions.
Turner had entered Red Snapper to compete in the Richard And Louise Fox Wedding Anniversary Nursery Handicap at Chepstow today.
Speaking before racing commenced at the Monmouthshire course, his daughter Kathy informed Sky Sports Racing: "Dad passed away about an hour and a half ago. We had the phone call on the way up in the lorry.
"I'd already made the decision a couple of days ago that the horse was to run in dad's name, in his honour.
"Whatever happened, he would have wanted that and he slipped away this morning.
"The love that that man had – he wasn't just my dad and my sister's dad, and Ryan's grandfather, he was everyone's dad.
"The people that he helped all through his years, they look at him as a dad.
"The messages and the support from everyone has just been absolutely outstanding."
Despite his advancing age, Turner was renowned for his relentless work ethic and was preparing a non-thoroughbred horse for the sales at the time of the accident, , reports the Mirror.
"He would have preferred to have been going flat-out up the gallops but unfortunately just a freak accident," Kathy added.
"I still can't get round that this injury has done this to him because I pulled him out from underneath horses on the gallops.
"It was only last Sunday he was up on my sister's salon roof, re-felting it!".
"That was him - you would have never changed him."
Turner's last triumph in the Brocklesby came in 2013 with Mick's Yer Man, ridden by his grandson – then a 7lb claiming apprentice – Ryan While, who said: "There is never going to be another gentleman like him – a gentleman in everybody's hearts.
"He's done everything for us and everybody else and I just hope we can make him proud in some way."

What time and TV channel is Moses Itauma v Dillian Whyte on tonight?
Moses Itauma is set for a stern test tonight as he squares off against seasoned fighter Dillian Whyte in a true measure of his heavyweight prowess. Itauma boasts an impressive record, having triumphed in all 12 of his professional bouts to date - and has managed to knock out 10 of his opponents within the distance. He's widely touted as the division's rising star at a time when Oleksandr Usyk, Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua are nearing the twilight of their careers. However, he first needs to overcome Whyte in Riyadh tonight, with his compatriot entering the last chance saloon. Whyte has only stepped into the ring twice in the past three years and will commence tonight's fight as the clear underdog - but still poses a significant threat. Here's everything you need to know about tonight's heavyweight clash.... What time will Moses Itauma vs Dillian Whyte start tonight? Dilian Whyte and Moses Itauma are expected to make their way to the ring at approximately 10.30pm Irish time tonight, with the fight commencing shortly after. The evening's first bouts will kick off from 6pm, reports the Mirror. Please note that all fight timings are subject to change and will depend on the duration of the undercard. Full fight card, undercard, running order and start times Moses Itauma vs Dillian Whyte - 10.30pm Nick Ball vs Sam Goodman - 9.30pm Filip Hrgovic vs David Adeleye - 8.30pm Raymond Ford vs Abraham Nova - 7.30pm Hayato Tsutsumi vs Qais Ashfaq -6.30pm Mohammed Alakel vs Yumnam Santosh Singh - 6pm. Quotes corner Moses Itauma: "The reason why they get so nervous and so anxious in their fights is because they are too focused on the outcome. I am not fussed about the outcome, I am fussed about me boxing to my gameplay. When I box to the gameplay, I know that I can beat Dillian Whyte. In turn, it is just going to be 'cool, job is done. You have completed the equation.' Whereas, if I do not do it, it is like 'I have failed.' I would not say I would be happy if I beat Dillian Whyte, but I know I would be disappointed if I do not." Dillian Whyte: "Today Moses is the next Mike Tyson. He is great, amazing and they talk about him fighting (Oleksandr) Usyk. I go in there, he does his thing, I catch him and blow him up. Then what? People say he's not good any more? My mindset is no-one wants to fight Moses, he is a great fighter, young, sharp and full of beans. You have to believe in yourself and take risks. That is what my life is all about. Showing people, my family and my kids, and people in general, you have to take risks to get to places. I ain't got nothing to lose. What have I got to lose? I'm a nobody. I'm being compared to a journeyman in the 90s and 80s, he is being compared to Mike Tyson."

Petr Cech announces separation from wife Martina after 26 years together
Petr Cech has revealed he and his wife have split after 26 years together. The former Chelsea and Arsenal goalkeeper issued a brief but heartfelt statement confirming his separation from partner Martina. The pair had been together since their teenage years and were wed for 22 years before having two children, Damian, 16, and Adela Cechova, 17. The legendary shot-stopper indicated that the duo remain close friends despite going their separate ways. Cech, 43, broke the news by sharing a message alongside a black and white photograph of Martina planting a kiss on his cheek, reports the Mirror. The former keeper penned: "Martina and myself are sad to announce that we are separating after 26 years together. We remain best friends and immensely proud of our two children." Petr Cech announced the split on his Instagram (Image: petrcech/Instagram) Cech and Martina first crossed paths at secondary school in 1999 before tying the knot four years later. The pair welcomed their children during the goalkeeper's stint at Stamford Bridge. Former Blues technical advisor Cech was absent for Adela's arrival in 2008. The Czech Republic icon had departed with Chelsea's squad in preparation for their League Cup semi-final encounter against Everton. "It was the best day of my life and at the same time the saddest," Cech told the People magazine. "I was happy to be a father and proud of my wife, but sad to have missed the birth. "My daughter decided she would come in the middle of the night without me being able to do anything, so I had to wait glued to the phone." Petr Cech has separated from his wife Martina (Image: PA) Both of Cech's children are now carving their own paths in football, following their father, a Premier League legend. His daughter Adela is a defender for Fulham and the Czechia U17s, while his son Damian is a goalkeeper who signed a professional contract with the Cottagers earlier this year. Petr previously told "I didn't push my children into football, but they found it anyway. "They just live with my name, so they have been the target of comparison since they were young." On the same day he announced his divorce, Cech also shared his thoughts on leadership in collaboration with Glow21, a '21st-century leadership movement powered by real experience'. "I believe that leadership is very similar in both sport and business." he wrote. "A true leader motivates the team, communicates effectively, and brings out the best in people. "What do you think – what, in your opinion, makes a great leader?".
