In the 73rd episode of the Arena Sports Show, presenter Clauiee Grace Mpanza and regular guest Mahlatse Mphahlele are joined by former Orlando Pirates and Cape Town City midfielder Fortune Makaringe.
Makaringe, who is a stylish player with a bag of tricks in his arsenal, did not waste time as he weighed in on the discussion about showboating, saying he advocates for players to express themselves on the pitch.
He spoke about his football journey that took him from the youth structures at Moroka Swallows to Maritzburg United, Pirates and Cape Town City, where he failed to save the team from relegation.
After City's drop to the Motsepe Foundation Championship at the end of last season, Makaringe is without a club but is training on his own with the hope of finding employment soon.
He also spoke about what led to the relegation of City, a side that boasted experienced players such as Darren Keet, Thabo Nodada, Thulani Serero, Kamohelo Mokotjo, Thamsanqa Mkhize, Lorenzo Gordinho and Haashim Domingo.

Ouaddou demanding set-piece efficiency from Pirates, says Mabasa
Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa has given an insight into how new coach Abdeslam Ouaddou is trying to improve the club's performance in set pieces ahead of the new season. 'Coach Ouaddou is trying to improve the areas where we lacked last season,' Mabasa said. 'The biggest thing I have noticed about the coach is he is very demanding, [and] he loves his players at the same time.' Orlando Pirates send home trialist after short training stint
Orlando Pirates have reportedly closed the door on Zambian striker Enock Sakala Jr., ending his brief trial with the club following an unfortunate injury blow. The 23-year-old, who previously featured for Chippa United and Egyptian outfit Modern Sport, joined the Buccaneers' pre-season camp in Johannesburg at the start of July, hoping to earn a permanent contract. However, Sakala has now returned to Zambia, with little hope of signing for the Soweto giants ahead of the 2025/2026 season. Sakala impressed early on in training, showing strong intent and sharpness in front of goal. But his progress came to a sudden halt when he sustained an injury that ultimately ended his trial prematurely. 'Enock Sakala Jr. has gone back home to Zambia after picking up an injury while on trial at Pirates. He was doing well and showing signs of hunger, but the knock proved to be costly. He is unlikely to get the deal now and it's unclear if he will be getting another opportunity at the club any time soon,' said a source. The short road to what would be a record-extending fourth successive title begins this coming weekend with a tricky home clash against Polokwane City. On paper, Pirates have to be the favourites to progress into the semi-final but the beautiful game is played on grass and few clubs would know better than the black and white clad outfit how tricky things can be on the pitch. This, after all, is a team that slipped on the banana skin that was another team from Limpopo in the form of Magesi FC in the Carling Knockout at the same Orlando Stadium last year. They are sure to tell you that their shock defeat is water under the bridge and that City and Magesi are not the same. In any case, Pirates have mastered the art of winning the MTN8, haven't they? Sundowns, meanwhile, will be out for redemption following a disappointing showing last campaign when they got knocked out by Stellenbosch FC in the semi-final. The Brazilians generally struggle in the MTN8 and it remains to be seen how they will fare this time around. They open their campaign against Richards Bay. Last year's beaten finalists Stellies are probably still hurting from that controversial loss against Pirates in which the Buccaneers forged ahead courtesy of a goal scored after they took a free kick way ahead of where the incident that earned them the set play had occurred. While Stellies coach Steve Barker is unlikely to forgive the match officials for that 'robbery' he is professional enough to know not to dwell in the past and you can bet he would have his teams ready for the visit of AmaZulu on Sunday. Sekhukhune United will host TS Galaxy on Saturday in a clash that can go either way.
