Jessie J Comes Clean About Scary Health Diagnosis That Will Make Her 'Disappear' From The Spotlight
is opening up about a private health battle that has been plaguing her. The British artist took to social media to share the news of a cancer diagnosis.
The heartbreaking announcement comes two years after the "Price Tag" singer welcomed her first child, son Sky, with her partner, Chanan Colman.
Jessie J, who is returning to the music scene after a four-year hiatus, informed fans of her plans to leave the public eye while she undergoes surgery.
In an emotional Instagram video, Jessie announced to her fans that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer. "I've been going back and forth a little bit on should I share it?" the singer candidly confessed.
The 37-year-old admitted she was concerned about the "opinions" of others and was particularly worried that the media would "make this way bigger." However, pushing past her fears, she decided to speak up because she loves sharing her life with her fans.
The United Kingdom native revealed that she got the news of the diagnosis in April 2025, shortly before the release of her comeback hit single, "No Secrets."
"I was diagnosed with early breast cancer. I'm highlighting the word 'early.' Cancer sucks in any form, but I'm holding onto the word early," Jessie said in the clip. "I have been in and out of tests throughout this whole period."
She explained her decision to let the world in on her secret battle, admitting that she "selfishly" hadn't spoken about it enough. "I'm not processing it 'cause I'm working so hard," the mother-of-one confessed.
However, Jessie understands the power of sharing her truth and how it has led to her receiving love and support when she needed it the most. She also believes her cancer story will help others speak about theirs.
"It breaks my heart that so many people are going through so much, similar and worse. That's the bit that kills me," she shared.
Calling herself an "open book," the singer fought back tears as she declared that her cancer diagnosis wasn't something she "planned." She reflected on the journey so far and how it coincided with her music comeback, saying:
"To get diagnosed with this, as I'm putting out a song called No Secrets, right before a song called Living My Best Life, which was all pre-planned, before I found out about this. I mean, you can't make it up."
Nevertheless, Jessie is soldiering on and focusing on defeating breast cancer. She informed fans of her plans to undergo surgery. "It's a very dramatic way to get a boob job," she joked.
Using humor to discuss the sensitive topic, "The Voice UK" judge called her surgery a "weird topic." She concluded the heart-melting video, confirming that she would retreat from the spotlight in the meantime.
"I am going to disappear for a bit after Summertime Ball to have my surgery, and I will come back with massive t-ts and more music, she said.
In the post's accompanying caption, the London native poked fun at her recent song titles, writing, "No (more) Secrets and is it too soon to do a remix called 'Living my breast life'?"
Putting the jokes aside, she acknowledged that while her diagnosis gave her "the most incredible perspective," she "needs a hug."
Although the songstress might not be able to receive hugs from her fans worldwide, many surrounded her with love and encouragement in the comments section.
"Open book and open heart. We love you and support you always. Sending you the best energy for a speedy recovery, warrior," a caring fan penned.
"You are the strongest person, Jess. Sending you so much love and light for your healthy healing," another comment read.
"You have been so brave and strong and, as always, hit it with humour," a third fan wrote, praising the Critics' Choice winner.
Moved by the outpouring of support, Jessie took to her Instagram Stories to appreciate her dedicated fan base. "You have loved me through all my good and hard times."
Jessie J's heartbreaking health news comes less than a month after her performance at the BAFTA TV Awards 2025 made headlines.
It marked her first performance on stage in six years, and fans were thrilled to see the singer perform "The Award Goes To."
Although the powerful rendition received praises online, the singer didn't think it was her best performance. She admitted in a statement shared on social media that acid reflux affected her vocals.
"My acid reflux about 2 hours before my performance on the BAFTAs tonight said, 'HELLO JESS,'" she wrote, per the Daily Mail. "People who know how that is (or singers), I'm sure, could see me struggling, but I threw the mic stand and pushed through."

Kneel it like Beckham: Soccer great to be honored with knighthood
David Beckham, the former England soccer captain who has been an ambassador for the U.N. children's fund for two decades, is to receive a knighthood in next week's honors list from King Charles III, according to U.K. media reports Friday. Without citing sources, the BBC said Beckham is set to receive further recognition both for his soccer career, and his contributions to British society. The knighthood will make Beckham "Sir David" while his wife since 1999, former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, will become "Lady Beckham." In 2003, Beckham was awarded the Order of the British Empire, or OBE, for services to soccer. Victoria Beckham got the same honor for services to the fashion industry in a later New Year Honours list. Honors are awarded twice a year, once at New Year's, and then in June to mark the king's birthday. They are mostly made on the recommendation of the government, though the monarch has input too. Prime Minister Keir Starmer's office would not confirm the press reports, as is custom. Buckingham Palace declined to comment. The Associated Press has not been able to independently confirm the award of the knighthood, which was first reported in The Sun tabloid newspaper. In video footage published by The Sun from the Chelsea Flower Show earlier this month, the king is seen asking Beckham if he "received his 50th birthday present." The King appeared to say "I'm glad it got to you," with Beckham responding: "It was incredible, thank you, it was very kind." [Related: Portugal vs. Spain Nations League Final: How to watch, time, TV channel, streaming] Beckham and the king have crossed paths on numerous occasions, including at state functions. Last year, Beckham became an ambassador for The King's Foundation, an educational and sustainability charity Charles launched in 1990. Beckham, who is clearly a patriot, is the only English soccer player to score at three different World Cups and his illustrious career included the treble-winning campaign of 1999, when Manchester United won the Premier League, the FA Cup and the Champions League. With 115 appearances for the England national team, Beckham is third in the all-time list. He also captained the side on 59 occasions. After leaving Manchester United 2003, Beckham played for Real Madrid, Los Angeles Galaxy and Paris Saint-Germain. He now co-owns the MLS team Inter Miami. His career wasn't always a high, though. After the 1998 World Cup in France, Beckham was widely vilified for his petulant kick of Argentina player Diego Simeone, which saw him sent off. Many fans blamed him for England's exit. In 2023's Netflix documentary series "Beckham," he described the abuse he experienced, which included an effigy of him hanging from a noose outside a London pub. "I knew it was bad at the time, but going over that whole thing was quite a tough one," he told the AP. The four-part documentary series about Beckham's life and professional career scored him an Emmy in 2024 for outstanding documentary or non-fiction series. Beckham has been a style icon and celebrity and has been a prominent supporter of charities, including UNICEF, which created "The David Beckham UNICEF Fund" in 2015 to mark a decade's partnership between the two. Beckham also played a pivotal role in London being awarded the Summer Olympic Games in 2012. If the knighthood is confirmed, Beckham would join an elite group of British soccer players to have been knighted, including England's 1966 World Cup winners, Geoff Hurst and Bobby Charlton, and Scotland's Kenny Dalglish.
