Gian Piero Gasperini's Roma scour market for 'new Lookman'

Gian Piero Gasperini's Roma scour market for 'new Lookman'

Yahoo4 hours ago

Gian Piero Gasperini has been among the best coaches in Serie A over the last decade and this time around he has ended a long stint at Atalanta to go to Roma. As he begins to model a side like the one at Atalanta, the most difficult task is to find a like-for-like replacement for Ademola Lookman.
Lookman, 27, was the cornerstone of Gasperini's Atalanta over the last two seasons, contributing to 52 goals in that time span. The challenge is not only to find that output but also his direct threat from out wide. It's worth noting that Lookman himself is reportedly on the market but it is expected that he will be looking at a bigger club, potentially abroad.

As per calciomercato.com, Roma have made preliminary shortlist of two players for this role – Igor Paixao from Feyenoord and Abde Ezzalzouli from Real Betis. While neither player is currently at the same level as Lookman, Gasperini's track record with attacking players and it is the Italian who finally got the Nigerian playing at his best. Paixao is expected to cost around €25-30m and Napoli were interested too while Betis will demand €20m for Abde with fellow Serie A club Como also closely monitoring him.

Parma center-forward Ange-Yoan Bonny has reportedly set his heart on joining Inter Milan after the Club World Cup. According to famous journalist Alfredo Pedulla via FCInter1908, the 21-year-old is hellbent on continuing his career at the San Siro. Advertisement Bonny has been on Inter's shortlist since the tail-end of the 2024/25 season. Furthermore, the Nerazzurri even tried to sign him for the FIFA Club World Cup. Despite failing in that intent, they've never lost interest in the talented Frenchman, whose career is at a crossroads. (Photo by) Ange-Yoan Bonny has already agreed to team up with Cristian Chivu's charges. Indeed, the parties have a verbal agreement, meaning it's now up to Inter to get Parma to sign the papers. Meanwhile, the Crusaders are holding out for their €25 million valuation of their most prized asset. Since Inter are unwilling to go that far, they are considering including a counterpart in a deal to drive the price down. However, Bonny's desire to join is a step in the right direction.

Report – Inter Milan Plot Double Swoop To Reinforce Attack & Evaluate Various Scenarios For In-Demand Prodigy

Report – Inter Milan Plot Double Swoop To Reinforce Attack & Evaluate Various Scenarios For In-Demand Prodigy Ange-Yoan Bonny and Rasmus Hojlund rank highly on Inter Milan's list of priorities, and so does the future of Francesco Pio Esposito. Italian journalist Luca Marchetti took stock of Inter's transfer plans via FCInter1908, including the situation of the young gun. Advertisement Widely considered among Italy's finest talents, Francesco Pio Esposito is part of Inter's Club World Cup squad. It could be a presentable opportunity for the 19-year-old to prove himself on the grand stage. However, there's still a veil of mystery surrounding his future. Indeed, the Serie A runners-up remain committed to adding two attacking pieces to Cristian Chivu's attacking jigsaw. Therefore, they must re-evaluate the youngster's first-team prospects heading into a transitional summer. Inter Milan Keen on Ange-Yoan Bonny & Rasmus Hojlund But Unwilling to Lose Francesco Pio Esposito PARMA, ITALY – SEPTEMBER 16: Ange-Yoan Bonny of Parma Calcio celebrates after scoring his team second goal during the Serie A match between Parma and Udinese at Stadio Ennio Tardini on September 16, 2024 in Parma, Italy. (Photo by) Esposito would likely be a decent option in rotation, but that could be counterproductive for his development. Advertisement As such, Chivu must examine all the factors before deciding what to do with one of the most in-demand Italian prospects. On the other hand, Inter seem to be tightening the noose on Parma's Ange-Yoan Bonny. With the player's consent in the bag, all that is left is an agreement with the Crusaders. Despite Parma's €25 million asking price, the deal looks inevitable. Things may not be as simple in Hojlund's case. Valued at €45m by Manchester United, the Dane has flopped in the Premier League. Therefore, he'd probably favor a return to Serie A, yet Inter can only sign him on loan with a mandatory buyout clause. Finally, there's the Mehdi Taremi conundrum. Indeed, the Iranian star wants to stay, but the Nerazzurri will listen to offers for their underperforming striker.
