Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Katy Perry had dinner together in Montreal this week.
A communications consultant for the restaurant Le Violon confirmed Tuesday that the former prime minister and the singer spent about two hours at the fine-dining spot Monday evening. Photos of the meetup published by TMZ sparked speculation of a budding romance.
Samantha Jin said the pair kept to themselves and neither the staff nor other patrons approached them for a photo. 'We kind of got the vibe that they were a little more chill,' she said.

Jin added that there was no indication of romance in the air, noting: 'No visual signs of PDA or anything.'
The report about the dinner first appeared on TMZ, which posted video of Trudeau and Perry in animated conversation at the eatery.
Perry recently split from longtime partner Orlando Bloom and is on tour with stops including Ottawa on Tuesday, Montreal on Wednesday, Quebec City on Friday, and two dates in Toronto next week.
Trudeau and his ex-wife Sophie Grégoire separated in 2023.
During the meal, Jin said security watched from the bar as the pair noshed on a chef's menu featuring a range of appetizers including tuna, beef tartare, lobster and asparagus, with lamb as their main course.
Jin said Chef Danny Smiles stopped by their table to say hello, and before heading out, they came into the kitchen to thank the team.
A spokeswoman for Trudeau didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
A spokeswoman for Perry wasn't immediately available for comment.
Trudeau announced his resignation earlier this year after nearly a decade in power. His father, late Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, was a bachelor when he became prime minister. He dated actresses Barbra Streisand and Kim Cattrall and married a 22-year-old woman while in office at age 51.
Born and raised in California, Perry is a 13-time Grammy Award nominee. She helped usher in the sound of '00s pop, quickly becoming one of the bestselling artists of all time for her campy, big, belting anthems. She has released seven studio albums, most notably 2010's sugar-sweet 'Teenage Dream.' The album produced five No. 1s that tied a record set by Michael Jackson's 1987 album 'Bad.'

CM Yogi Adityanath slams SP: ‘Turned education sector into cheating hub'

CHIEF MINISTER Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday hit out at the Samajwadi Party (SP), saying that they are 'now criticising genuine reform although during their rule, the education sector had been turned into a hub of malpractice, chaos and caste politics.' Adityanath was addressing a gathering after inaugurating an Atal Residential School in Moradabad. His remarks came amid ongoing protests by the SP against the state government's pairing policy of schools by organising 'PDA pathshalas' in several districts. Calling the SP 'Kaurav Dal,' the CM went on to say that SP intends to teach children 'Ga se gadha' instead of 'ga se Ganpati.' He said that those who earlier 'came to power through appeasement politics now find themselves politically irrelevant — neither connected to society nor concerned about future generations.' The CM said, 'Power was once treated as a platform for appeasement, turning education into a hub of cheating, chaos, and caste politics.' He added, 'Today, those same people are suddenly concerned about public satisfaction.' Adityanath also questioned SP leaders' claims about 'PDA', citing that party's 'poor track record' in the education sector. He claimed that during the late Kalyan Singh's government, when students were taught 'ga se Ganesha', SP leaders objected to this and demanded that it be changed to 'ga se gadha'. 'This reflects their mindset,' said the CM, pointing out that while the BJP seeks to instill Indian culture and values in children, 'SP leaders had no qualms about insulting deities such as Lord Ganesha.' Adityanath said, 'When they were in power, timely recruitment of teachers was not done nor were any serious efforts to improve educational standards. The entire administrative and academic ecosystem was crippled by nepotism and caste-based politics in the past.' He also said that earlier, criminal elements operated with impunity in almost every district, dragging the state into an era of anarchy and communal unrest. 'For them, mass cheating was a right, not a crime. They gambled with the future of our youths through systematic exam fraud,' he added. Dedicating the new school to the children of labourers' families in the Moradabad division, Adityanath described it as a 'temple of education' established in the memory of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, during his birth centenary year. Till date, 18 Atal Residential Schools have been established across Uttar Pradesh, providing free, high-quality education to over 18,000 children of labourers and orphans. Lucknow: Calling the Kanwar Yatra a 'symbol of unity', Adityanath on Wednesday hit out at opposition parties for doing 'politics of appeasement', pointing out that certain anti-social elements had conspired to tarnish the image of the Kanwar Yatra but 'such attempts failed due to proactive administrative efforts as well as the alertness and awareness of the society.' He was addressing a gathering during his visit to Bareilly, where he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 545 development projects worth Rs 2,264 crore. The CM said, 'Some individuals had tried to insult public sentiments and defame the Kanwar Yatra, but the alertness of society and the state's strong law-and-order machinery foiled such efforts.' 'The BJP government is committed to blending heritage with development. Bareilly, which in the past saw frequent communal riots before 2017, is now gaining fame for the Nath Corridor and spiritual tourism,' he added. ENS

Anand Mahindra urges India to turn tariff turmoil into "1991 moment"

Anand Mahindra, chairman of the Mahindra Group, has called on India to turn the ongoing global tariff upheaval into an opportunity akin to the transformative economic reforms of 1991. Drawing parallels with the liberalisation that followed India's forex crisis more than three decades ago, Mahindra asked whether the current 'global Manthan' over tariffs could yield some 'Amrit' for the country. In a social media post, Mahindra said the 'law of unintended consequences' was quietly reshaping global economic priorities, triggered by the tariff war unleashed by the United States. While the short-term impact has been marked by friction, he said longer-term effects were already emerging in significant and potentially positive shifts. In Europe, he noted, the response to changing tariffs has gone beyond strategic trade adjustments. Countries such as Germany and France have ramped up defence spending, prompting a rethinking of security dependence and nudging Germany away from rigid fiscal conservatism. Mahindra said this could pave the way for an economic resurgence in Europe, giving the world a new growth engine. Similarly, in Canada — long constrained by internal trade barriers among its provinces — Mahindra observed that the same global pressures were driving efforts to dismantle inefficiencies. This, he said, could bring the Canadian economy closer to becoming a true common market, enhancing long-term resilience. These developments, Mahindra argued, show how unintended consequences can create major structural advantages. He urged India to act decisively to engineer its own set of outcomes that may seem unintended but are intentional in their transformative potential. He called for a radical improvement in India's ease of doing business, proposing the creation of a genuinely effective single-window clearance system for investment proposals. Noting that many regulatory powers lie with individual states, Mahindra suggested forming a coalition of willing states to align with a national platform to streamline and simplify approvals. If India can demonstrate speed, transparency, and predictability in this area, he said, it could become an irresistible destination for global capital. Mahindra also emphasised the need to unleash tourism as a major foreign exchange driver. Calling it one of India's most underexploited assets, he advocated urgent improvements in visa processing, tourist facilitation, and the creation of dedicated tourism corridors anchored in assured security, sanitation, and hygiene, serving as model destinations for replication nationwide. In addition to these two focus areas, he recommended broader policy action to strengthen competitiveness and resilience, including liquidity support for MSMEs, faster infrastructure investment, expanded manufacturing through enhanced production-linked incentive (PLI) schemes, and import duty rationalisation to reduce input costs for domestic manufacturers. Mahindra concluded with a call for intent-driven reform: 'Let the unintended consequences we create be the most intentional and transformative ones of all.' While acknowledging that no country can be faulted for putting its own interests first, he said India must use this moment to build a future greater than ever before.
